McDavid extends for 2 years at $12.5m per year
Gatorman0519 replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
He clearly took a hometown discount and is giving them extra money and two years to fill out the line up. -
Bowman didnt didn’t do diddly. McDavid dictated this. He is giving Stan this small window to surround him with better players. Anyone could have signed him to this deal.
-
I agree. On the surface I want to say the NHLPA union can not be all that happy with him for taking 'only' $12.5m per year. But in the end, Edmonton is going to spend to the cap, so the union members will still get the same money.

I don't think an athlete of this magnitude (at this point in their career) has ever given a hometown discount of this magnitude. Holy shnikes. (Maybe I lack context. Did Brady leave a lot of money on the table in NE?) -
MJD presents it cogently here: It is a perfect situation for the team. Bowman hit this one out of the park.

That Edmonton press release looks like a Wheaties box.

Well, shoot. He could've just waited until next summer and signed with the Sabres for that. C'mon, Sheevyn! What even are you doing? 😇 -
When he's motivated, he can still be a world beater. Problem is, he wasn't motivated his last year at least (and arguably last 2 years) in Buffalo and he won't likely be motivated to this degree again often in Cheatland. When he isn't motivated, he's a huge distraction. Looking forward to Maye, McCown, or Vrabel looking at him crossways one time and him going back into pouty mode. (The sooner, the better. 😉 )
-
No, he just printed the paper. McDavid wants to win with Oilers, and he dictated the terms. I can't think it went any other way.

The pressure is to surround McDavid with enough talent to get a cup or he's gone in 3 years. -
Feel the pressure? He absolutely killed it here.

How does he not demand $20 mil a year if the dude from Minnesota is getting $17?? -
Or, try to get him back on the "Okposo" as a veteran leader who can move around the lineup.
-
Knaublach cursed that team with his tasteless 'lil faux pas They won't win 💩 until he's replaced
-
Feel the preasure Stan Bowman.

Since the start of the year the quality of this group has declined significantly. The recent spate of rhetoric, passive aggressiveness, and personal attacks has sealed the deal for me. So I am asking the rest of you for your input. I think what is happening in this club does not provide benefit to the overall forum as a whole and only serves to provide an additional pathway to negativity. The Sabres have provided enough of that on their own. I am traveling a lot this month and will barely be around to moderate. It's clear that despite repeated messages the intent to lower the flames here has failed. This has resulted in my decision to stop moderating this club. I will place a poll for people to determine the future. At the end of this week, by Friday morning, my interactions with this club will be over.
-
I think that deal is great for Edmonton. You get the remainder of "Prime McDavid", for 3 more seasons. At that point, your team is getting really old, McDavid will be entering his age 31-32 season. You COULD try to re-sign him, but at the current contract, you are getting the very best he has left in his career while your team window is open at a value price.

This helps us in the Tuch negotiations in my honest opionon

Translation: Make this team better or I’m gone!

I just posted it elsewhere, but I would LOVE that deal for Tuch. If I were the Sabres, I'd throw a party if he signed for a 2 year extension (You'd have him for 3 more years through the season he turns 32, 2027-28, someone else can pay him beyond that)

Yes, it can. But as I indicated, there are those who would say, "if I have to do that, then this is not the place I want to live any longer." As for fear and paranoia not being subjective we simply need to look at the FUD being bandied about on a daily basis. It's all about conjuring up fear where it likely shouldn't exist. It's not about painting a realistic picture but instead one with intent to "scare" people into an action whether it's statistically relevant or not. -
Tuch should sign for 2 x $12.25M as a prove it deal (to the owner). Then, go to Florida or Las Vegas on a Cup-mission spite discount.

I'd take the exact same deal for Tuch. Not going to happen but give him a ton of money but limit it to 2 years, sign me up.
