The offseason so far - Are the Sabres better?
JohnC replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
If you feel offended I apologize. I didn’t intend it to make you upset. -
8 Thursdays including the season opener and the only home game in February. 5 Mondays. 6 Tuesdays (3 of those in March). 6 Wednesdays. 4 Fridays (only 1 of which falls after the calendar flips). 10 Saturdays. 2 Sundays.
-
4 home games in 7 days November 17 - 23 5 home games in 8 days with btb in the middle of that Jan 10 - 17 5 home games in 8 days w/ btb to start it off March 7 - 14 and ending with 4 home games w/ btb in the middle of it from March 25 - 31. Don't know what the STHers did to piss them off, but they clearly aren't happy with us. This schedule stinks for out of towners. Guess either relatives will go to a lot of games or will be selling a lot.
-
Looks like only 16 weekend home games and 6 of those come in 3 sets of weekends (1 Friday & Sunday; 1 Friday Saturday; and 1 Saturday Sunday). Not exactly making it easy for those that don't live in Erie/Niagara Counties or Fort Erie to attend a lot of games. And BOTH Loafs games are weekend games.

The offseason so far - Are the Sabres better?
Drag0nDan replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
The market's ice cold right now. But later on people will be hurt, contenders will be looking for help, and other teams will fire their GM's and the new guy might want to ship stuff out. If you have only like two teams calling about a player, its probably not a good time to trade the player. -

New CBA Provision Regarding CHL-AHL Eligibility Rules

USHL existed because Colleges dont want 18 year olds. They want kids to be more physically mature. Spend a year or two in USHL and then go to college. Now that they can play major junior in Canada, it will be interesting to see impact on other lesser junior leagues. -
Injuries definitely make a big difference. Florida's depth and coaching will help them weather any storm. Toronto still has a ton of great players, and a solid goalie tandem. Only thing i'd see that would cause tampa to fall is if vasilevsky misses time. Teams I think buffalo could potentially finish ahead of: Montreal's young, anything could happen. Ottawa gets a full season of cozens to contend with. Detroit I'm not sure they have enough goals, nor am i sure gibsons still a good goalie.

Should I look up when they play here in NC even though I know I won't go?

Sabres sign Forward Jake Leschyshyn to a one year two way contract

You do realize that he has pretty much next to nothing to do with these deals, right? -

Peterka who? -
39 points across 89 games in the last 3 seasons, and he turns 37 this season. I'm not sure he's worth much more than league minimum, in which case he might as well just wait to see if he can latch onto a contender for league min.

I mean... part of me wonders if there's really much left that can improve the Sabres. Claude Lemieux represents Roslovic, so i think he's holding out for an anything but Buffalo deal. Wouldn't shock me if we called and Claude basically said "not interested". I remember when we drafted his kid and he basically outright said he wasn't ever going to play in Buffalo. -

Fake computer thingy says this: Jake Leschyshyn is a solid, two-way forward known for his strong work ethic and defensive play. He's considered a potential bottom-six NHL player, with some projection to a top-six role, and is strong in his own end. Ok I guess -

Maybe poor AHL teams/goalies or defensive-only deployments or a combination thereof. -
Well you don't have to look far because most of those potential tank teams are not in the Sabres division. First off there's Florida. Same basic team, going to make the playoffs even if they coast a little and don't care about top seed (team is likely a dynasty only at the mid point in a 4-5 year run) Then there's Toronto. Might lose a few points with Marner gone but that team isn't dropping like a stone. They will be in the playoffs like it or not. Tampa. Question mark. Will they fall finally? Been predicted for a while and never seems to happen. I figure they will stay about the same. Ottawa? Could fall but look slightly better, more mature, if Ullmark is healthy and good can't see them being worse than they were. Montreal? Definitely improved. Unless things go horribly wrong there with injuries that team should keep rising. So there's already no spot without a massive increase in points. Massive. Detroit is kind of like the Sabres. I like some of their prospects better but unless Gibson has some sort of change of scenery rise they will miss again and stay a few points up or down from the Sabres. Bruins? Can't figure that team out and I follow them. 40 wins and 40 won fights? Lots of question marks with that team. Still lacks offense. I suspect they will do another deadline tear down, try for McKenna, and then try to pivot quickly with free agency. They have much less patience than the Sabres. But Sabres could finish ahead of them this year for sure. Bruins could surprise and compete for a wildcard but things would have to go very right for them and Swayman would have to be Vezina level. Even if you just add the wildcard pressure from Columbus and NYR the chances of the Sabres, who only marginally tweaked the line up from last year making the playoffs is next to nil.
