We sorta tried that with Donny G, now we have an actual dinosaur as coach... No way that's happening.

The dreaded TNT/HBO non-viewing, radio-only abstract painting description call tonight here. Hope Östlund plays well. Detroit is playing tremendous hockey to start the season. Need Ellis to play above expectation and for Dahlin/TNT/Tuch/Byram/McLeod to all show up at both ends of the ice to get a win.

Redwings are starting three rookies. You will see them tonight

Why are we even the least bit concerned about the Georgiev contract? They’re at 48 total contracts so that’s not getting in the way of anything. If they really need to make space later, that will be an easy fix. He’s not going to be taking significant time away from anyone with the amerks. They bought a $2 dollar powerball ticket and lost. It’s time to move on.

If it were me, it would all be on the table. Thats not suggesting that we need to burn it down. It is suggesting that, for the right deal, noone is safe. I don’t know that I particularly like how the team is set up, skillset-wise and personality-wise. This collection of players doesn’t strike me as having the right overall makeup to expect success. But I don’t know that I could expand further on that opinion if pressed to do so. It’s a feeling, nothing objective. Do I think there are some players that do have some of the personality and skillset I think matters? Yes, but just a few. If I count fingers on a hand , I’d have fingers left over. They would be way down on my list of priority in a retool of the roster, but noone is off limits on a team that struggles to reach 90pts season after season.

A top tier QB in his prime with one of the worst WR corps in the league is criminal. Just watch some of the film breakdowns if you think I am exaggerating. We will look back at this in 10 years and it will look much worse than right now.

I have no problem with the return received from the trades given the performance or attitude of the players traded away at the time. My problem is with why they had to make the trades, most notably not surrounding Eichel and Reinhart with the right complementary players, which led to this slippery slope. Botterill and Adams should never have become GM; they needed an experienced veteran GM.

I watched the NJ/Toronto game last night. Wow is that NJ team fun to watch. Their speed and aggressive attack style is quite effective. Every time Toronto made a mistake odd man rushes came out of nowhere. They even scored on a 4 on 1. I wish the Sabres had a team like that.

This is cool

This is not a burn down the entire house thread. This is asking what you think might be a workable core of this team that could be supplemented through trades or FA signings to create a good roster. I’ll try to illustrate what I mean. When I look at the Sabres I see the following players I like or think can be part of the solution: Tage, Dahlin, Kulich, Benson, Byram, Kozak, Lyon (as a backup only), McLeod (only as a 3C), and possibly Doan, Timmins and Kesselring , but I haven’t seen enough of them to make an informed decision. Tuch and Zucker are players I like but are aging out. I’d also like to see Östlund and Helenius get NHL time in a proper role. Same goes for the two Russian D. Mrtka is making this team next season. This is basically what I see when I look at the team Benson ????? Thompson ???? Kulich Tuch Zucker McLeod Doan ???? Kozak ???? Dahlin ???? Byram ???? (Kesselring?) ???? (Mrtka in 2026) ???? (Timmins?) ????? Lyons

1) So don't sign Georgiev. Call Reimer and when he says "No thanks, I'm better than UPL anyway", then call the next guy on the rolodex. If you only need a camp body, don't waste the contract. Keep calling around -- you can always claim someone (Ellis) off waivers at the season's beginning as well if end up liking them more. 2) They have made it abundantly clear they are not calling up Levi in the first half of this season. Ellis, waiver-passing Georgiev, and the planned tandem are all ahead of him 3) Sure, starting tonight. Maybe. He could benefit from no NHL tape on him and get one of those new guy great starts. Or, he could look like an AHL goalie who hasn't played in 2 weeks facing off against the hottest team in the conference. 4) Except Lyon, their goalies have no trade value right now. Partially because of their extreme surplus on the roster and partially because goalies in general have low trade value unless they're a proven stud. The most recent goalie trade was Pheonix Copley -- established AHL starter for 10 seasons, same NHL career sv % as Luukkonen (tweener level backup) -- for future considerations. The trade market is to give them away.

It is still way to early to say these were good trades. They were safe trades. Timmins over Clifton does not move a needle. There is not much difference that I see. Timmins may be less prone to errors, but he has 0 points and is -5 so far, which is how Clifton started with the Sabres when he was being played on the wrong hand for 3 months. Finally Granato put him on his correct side and he did better. Kesselring has yet to play and Doan looks very promising. Peterka is no slouch - he has 2 Gs and 4 pts, he is +3 in 7 games while playing on the first line. We gave up a talented player with a knack for goal scoring so it will take both Kesselring and Doan making season long contributions to make me happy.

Listened to Lindy on WGR and he says Kesserling is skating and should be back soon, before the end of the month. and Greenway basically the same. Says Kesserling should start skating in the game day skates. And its mostly about evaluating after skates as to how they feel and getting there stamina up I hope hope hope at least Greenway is good for the weekend, Kesserling seems a long shot, he seems more likely late next week
