QUINN QUINN QUINN! Just kidding around - I hear ya ... he has a LOT to prove.
-
With the $$ difference between benson and Robertson this isn’t crazy. We’re pretty tight against the cap (before any Tuch extension although that prob doesn’t hit the cap to 206/2027). We’d have to shed quite a bit of salary to take him on And we seriously weaken our d then. We don’t want Samuelson on the 2nd pair

Sabres prospect perfectly describes Sabres woes
PerreaultForever replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Adams has been saying the "harder to play against" mantra and Kesselring and Doan are harder to play against guys but overall the prospect cupboard is not hard to play against and the current team isn't either. It's easy to say but I doubt we see it any time soon. -
Well sure you can say that and you're being overly specific. The basic combinations laid out are the same. Ruff played Norris with Thompson for what was it 2 games, 3? I forget. Whatever few seconds he was healthy or able to play on arrival. Benson is in Peterka's spot. It's all exactly the same.
-
Well I hope they are moving people around and actually have open minds. It would be nice if someone unexpected jumped up and made a decision or two difficult. I think the Norris Thompson pairing has always been their idea. It's what Ruff looked at for the brief moment Norris played. I don't want to hear anything about Quinn until Quinn shows something on the ice.

Sabres prospect perfectly describes Sabres woes
SABRES 0311 replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
It would be nice to see this in a Sabres uniform. -
As a founding member of the Otto Velez fan club when the Jays first came into being, I congratulate them on their fine season. But I hope my Yankees kick the ever lovin’ crap out of ‘em should they get the chance. If not and the Yankees get eliminated before then, I’d be happy to see the Jays bring a ship back to my Canadian brethren. But only if my Yankees don’t get that chance to kick the ever lovin’ crap out of ‘em.

My Yankee fandom goes back to the mid-60's and the end of the Mantle era. I loved the mid 70's teams and the Billy Martin- Reggie Jackson era. I'm stuck with them as a fan but I do agree that this version of the Yankees is not very likable. Baseball in general is no longer a big thing for me.

Me, too. But I prefer it in the form of looking the opponent in the eye and tossing him instead of a cheap blind shot to the legs.
-
I just hope he is good enough to play in the NHL because we need exactly what he said. I want players that other teams don't like playing against, and I want Buffalo's arena to be a place that teams do not like visiting.
-
I want some.

He hasn't been mentally tough enough to date. That doesn't mean he can't add that tool to his kit. But he'll probably need more than just Mike Bales in his corner to get it added to the tool box. Really hoping he is getting help with that aspect of his game. When he's on his game, he's orders of magnitude better than he was when he first started getting games in Buffalo. There are myriad of things he's improved when he's on; including some things like being able to go from post to post with pace and control that he'd never indicated he'd ever be able to do in his time as a pro. So, he could very well be able to add a mental toughness to his repertoire. But, until he does so, he hasn't, and it's tough to expect it though we can and do hope as the Sabres still need to find the consistent quality starter that can get them to the playoffs and hopefully take them further than just that.

I appreciate the grit the kid showed and his aggressive play in front of his net, especially on the PK, especially with two guys already in the box, but a chop to the back of the legs like that is cheap imo.

He's what, 6 months removed from the operation? And he's what, in his 50's or 60's? Has he been told by his doctors that he shouldn't expect improvement from where he's at? Truly hope things get better for him and will keep him in our prayers. Glad he was able to get additional time courtesy of the selfless gift some other unfortunate soul gave him. Apples and kumquats to follow, but ... Know people that had hip replacements that it took them nearly a year to get back to "normal" but they are afterwords. Also know people that were pretty much back to full activity from that within a month. And realize that is a far less traumatic operation than what she underwent. Never said there wouldn't be a significant recovery time for Carolina, nor that she would necessarily ever be back to exactly where she was prior to her initial cardiac event. But, would personally be quite surprised if she isn't able to get back to a point where she'd be viewed as having a "normal" life (again, whatever the heck we are even defining normal as). But personally would be very surprised if Dahlin ends up suffering "long lasting effects on his mental state" due to this because his fiancee can't live a "normal" life. Will it take a toll on him in the ST? Would be shocked if it doesn't.

As you seem to be saying: He’s his own worst enemy. All goalies have to deal with failures. How they handle adversity without allowing it influence their play is a prerequisite to successfully play the position. Is he mentally strong enough or too fragile to recover from lapses is the issue hovering over him. With him, I just don’t know?? A criticism I have for the GM is that he hasn’t come up with an adequate backup plan just in case. That’s inexcusable, especially considering the time he has had to do so.
-
If you watched him last year it was glaringly apparent that he was flailing in the crease. Too much movement reacting instead of playing with less motion and good positioning. To make an obvious understatement, he lost his confidence in a position that requires mental toughness. If he can regain his game and stabilize his play, that would be the most positive impact any player can have for this team.

IF they do see UPL as the starter, and all indications are that they do, they are being pennywise and pound foolish if they aren't getting him regular sessions with a sports psychologist. He has the physical tools to be a top goalie in this league. But he sure does seem to get into his own head an awful lot and a SP could help him go a long way towards getting beyond that.
