They're all older and a goalie arrives to save their skins. I've got a bad feeling about this... -

The only real hope I have is that God comes to TP in a revelation and says fire Adams.. I mean it could happen right LOL... anyways, I am in the until we have adult professional hockey people running the operations, team assembly and use of assets I just dont see it getting better... but, thats just me... -
The issue with Necas is he didn't want to sign here before and he's a UFA at year's end.
-
Your analysis is astute and perspicacious. I strongly believe that our biggest priority relates to the net. The next priority is reconfiguring the blue line unit. Bryan is an asset that needs to be smartly parlayed. What I’m hoping for is doable. I’m also encouraged that a wiser former GM was brought in to help our frail GM.

I voted for hopefully trades and FA acquisitions... in other words, Jarmo gets the traction he needs to set a course correction. Otherwise I fear more of the same. -
From another board: This morning on NHL Radio Scott Laughlin (morning show host) said he heard on a "reputable podcast" that Peterka for Necas is a real possibility. Anyone hear the podcast he's referring to? To me thats a trade that makes a lot of sense. If Peterka wants out of Buffalo its hard to find a better spot than riding shotgun with Mac. Meanwhile Buffalo wants another center and Necas wants to be a center Dont shoot the messenger! I could get behind this deal if there is more to it, Colorado needs to cut salary, so add Ross Colton or Josh Manson to this as well, I know they will want to add Miles Wood and becasue he is from Buffalo and played for Lindy I could see KA agreeing to take him

Sports typically work in such a way that unexpected factors create chaos in expected results. That random "what-if" factor is what typically keeps fans in most markets invested. That it hasn't happened in a positive way in 14 years is what makes the Sabres such a confounding mystery and outlier. Intellectually, I can buy in to the possibility that Owen Power takes a step, UPL bounces back, and Norris and Quinn provide the 2nd-line competence last year's team lacked. I mean, I watched Tage Thompson go from 18 goals in his first 4 pro seasons combined to a 38 in his fifth. Good things happen. I just can't really believe it will happen because Buffalo. -

Yeah, whoever was making the logo patches in the early 80's definitely did not have fine attention to detail. Officially the logo never changed (the ones at center ice stayed consistent) but that version on the sweaters had a serious humpback and either a tail that was larger than the legs or else the lady buffalos were REALLY glad that one was around.
-
Well, if you flat out refuse to make any changes to the scouting or coaching departments and you know SOMETHING has to change to keep from spinning your wheels even further into the muck, then you have to swap out some key pieces if not even "core" pieces. The fear is that Adams gets competing offers and instead of evaluating them primarily on what the BIG piece coming back in any package happens to be, he ends up evaluating it on the "total value" of pieces coming back. He needs to stay focused on what the main piece coming back is because all of the ancillary pieces are essentially interchangeable. Hopefully Kekelainen and Karmanos can keep him focused on that part of the deals. Whether the sweetener is another team's 5th best or 5th best prospect or a 4th this year vs a 3rd next year; they don't friggin' matter in the grand scheme of things. Come away with the Robertson by himself rather than Petterson and a 3rd pairing D-man.

That Sabres logo had an eyebrow instead of a horn.

Rasmus Dahlin Named to Sweden's Preliminary Olympic Roster

Landeskog has to be a big surprise in that list. But then again, do these list really mean anything at all? They can change these people out easily enough. -
Everybody (except @JohnC) wants massive changes. Nobody (except @terrypegula) wants Kevyn Adams to make them. I suspect what’s coming will not be warmly received by Sabrespace because it will involve hyped pieces being moved for less-hyped pieces by an untrustworthy GM. That’s what happens when you move talent for roster construction and that’s what you’re asking them to do. If it happens, trading your #2 D and your 1LW a few months after swapping out your 2C in would be among the most significant transformations this team has made in a short period in its history, meaning hockey trades, not sell-offs. It’s certainly not Eichel ROR Lehner Kane and Bogisian, or Lafontaine Hawerchuk level. But it does represent meaningful change. Im not confident we’ll be better in a month but I’m starting to believe we’ll be different.

Happy "the Cup is in the building" camera shots day to you and yours!

Please once the Sabres make it to the playoffs again the Arena will get packed again, as a life long Buffalonian I hate to say it but most fans are frontrunners and show the Buffalove when teams win, see Bills and Bandits always selling out. Sabres well we can only take so much losing. Heck I've stopped watching them on tv on a regular basis.

I've tried to be open-minded about the JJP trade discussion. I've leaned toward keeping him because I see more upside from him and was tired of seeing our young players prospering with other teams. I now have come to a position where I'm steadfastly against dealing him. It is now a hard no for me. Many people make the argument that the organization has to alter its roster just to shake things up. I agree with that sentiment. But moving out young players who are already producing and are at an age where there is much more talent to tap into doesn't make sense to me. There is no question that JJP and other young players need to be more responsible in the defensive side of the game. And it is up to the coaching and the players to work to become better all-around players. So on the trade JJP discussion I'm on the hard no side of the argument. I'm attaching a Buffalo News link, Mike Harrington column on this issue. It may not be available for everyone because of the pay requirements. https://buffalonews.com/sports/professional/nhl/sabres/article_b2b6a614-e834-4784-ba99-6d3f7eee9394.html#tracking-source=home-top-story

Are there major changes coming this summer and who will make them?
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I just don't think Pettersson is the best player they could add, by trade or by free agency. I think he'll have good seasons but his career best is already past and his solid value production days are another contract into the future. In between he'll be a Matt Duchene or a Ryan Johanson. Good players... but overpaid, and if you really overpaid them, then you'll be sorely disappointed. -

So... move Power or Samuelsson (or buy him out while he's so cheap). The finances will work. In 2 years, at the halfway point of Dahlin's contract, his percentage of the cap will be 9.69%, which is very close to what Hedman's cap percentage was when Tampa won their back-to-back Cups (9.66% with a $7.875M salary to 81.5 cap ceiling. After that there will be 4 more seasons where the cap could be even higher with expansion. The resources will be there. Now, whether Adams/Pegula can effectively put that cap to reasonable use for the rest of the roster, I'll agree with you there. But Dahlin making money isn't really a negative. The no one wins the Cup with a $10M/year salary days are long over; Eichel busted that. Then Bob did. And this year someone will do it again. -

2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread, Sabres Draft 9th
French Collection replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I was talking to a guy who attended many OHL games this year. He thought that O’Brien did not really stand out. Misa and Schaefer had many WOW moments and were usually the best players on the ice. Martin was like a dog on a bone, he was relentless. Martone was big and effective but lacked the wow factor. Nothing new to hear but this continues to reinforce my take on some of the top guys. -

Adams has ***** up as hard as any GM has ever ***** up, he is as complete and total a failure as any executive in the history of pro sports and somehow STILL KEPT HIS JOB. This is not a serious organization.
