St Louis have a need for LHD? Kyrou would be an improvement over Peterka. Still have holes at goalie and D partner for Dahlin, but UFA or further trades should be able to address that

Kyrou is an older/slightly better version of Peterka, so would be good. I think he's allergic to defense too (like Peterka)

In my mind I keep saying Kesserling. That one rolls off the tongue a lot easier. edit: Unless you're Phil and you already have 3 rings.

I want to know who actually fills this position. Is it still just some beer league scrub who is guaranteed to be there every night? I can't picture any pro signing up for a deal where they will never play unless it is someone who is already done.

Getting a big rhd who likes to use his size and is a huge organizational need, and a two way player with good pedigree and likes to be a pain to play against, over a brooding (and if Peters and Rivet are right, a party animal) bad body language, one way player who had a fantastic end to the season. Some are too enamored with how many goals and assists JJ had. He’s good player but we got better imo by becoming harder to play against and a change in culture. More moves come and this will look even better.

I think Sabres may have paid a little goodwill for now, but I like the trade. KA is finally adding the types of players needed to succeed. Add these two to Dahlin, Tage, Tuch, Zucker, and Norris and we are building a proper NHL core. As good as JJ is on O, we needed a trade like this. We’re a better team today.

Interesting theory, although it seems it would have clearly involved tampering of some sort. I would imagine prospect-loaded Utah would have rather given up the picks, so I guess in your scenario Adams would have used the threat to match as leverage in order to get what he wanted, which reports seem to indicate was very clearly Kesselring?

The deal is based on an offer sheet. Offer sheets usually max out at five years. You can't spread the money out more than 5 years on an offer sheet. Armstrong probably let Adams and Peterka's agent know he was going to offer sheet Peterka. He let Adams know the number and Adams didn't want to pay , and didnt want the the draft pick compensation, so they figured out a trade. After the trade, Utah still had to sign Peterka, so Peterka's agent probably held them to the offer sheet numbers. Peterka could have refused to sign a longer term contract, and would have still been open to offer sheets from other teams.

I meant ticking on the prediction of a trade pre-draft. We might very well keep him. But it's also ticking on trading #9.

I guess the best thing about O'Brien is that he addresses the organizational need for playmaking centre even though he superficially might look like a "more of the same" pick.

I view this as part of a double trade with Byrum. Perhaps they felt by acquiring the RHD for Peterka, they could get something more valuable for Byrum which means the overall value of the combined haul they get would be better. I don't think we can look at this trade in a vacuum.
