  1. Past hour
  2. Would prefer him to Rust.
  3. He very likely is. The issue becomes will he get there before the "big 3" have decided they want out. Realizing 2 of them are locked up for as long as Power and Norris are. But they have to show them that the team is serious about winning to make sure that what has been 14 years of a bad situation sets up to be at least 3 more years of really bad situations. It's flat out astounding just how bad that S&C coach was to have singlehandedly caused them to just miss the playoffs 3 seasons ago and regress each of the last 2 years. Htf did he keep his job THAT long? Thankfully the issue was identified and corrected so we can now watch them march forward back into the NHL. And we will finally be closer to seeing the Sabres not only roll out their own Pronger / Niedermayer but perhaps, and we can only dare to hope, their own Savard, Robinson, Lapointe.
  4. We could do a lot worse then Patches on a one year deal Even Roslovic wouldn’t be bad, but he is prone to the odd stretch of uninspired play thats why patches makes sense, he clearly still has it. Might be a bit slower, but he still plays the game the right and is still mean and tough, I’d take a shot
  5. It is truly astounding. From a slightly past his prime Steve Ott and an in their primes Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek and Andraj Sekera to an in his prime Ryan O'Reilly to close to their primes Eichel, Reinhart, and Ullmark to essentially in his prime Montour to Rasmus Dahlin today; they've wasted truckloads of talent. At least now, for the 1st time in 5 years they aren't letting tons of cap space sit idle (and if they bring in another player or 2, they'll essentially not be wasting any cap space). Though by not fixing the issues with the coaching they still could very easily be throwing the talent of guys like Dahlin, Tuch, Thompson, Benson, Norris, Kesselring, and Byram into a pile in the corner once again.
  6. Many people get stuck in the valleys of their lives. With the Sabres, believe or no, we're not talking about average people, we're talking about competitors at the highest level. The players can decide to collectively walk up the hill, despite the foibles of the organization, just to see what the view is like from the ridge line, even if only for a season.
  7. Your knowledge of the rules and how to translate them is actually quite impressive and appreciated.
  8. I think if we get a F it will be Roslovic
  9. I don’t know why and I know almost nothing about him but I feel like he could become a Seabrook like player
  10. Right on - and these issues are only exacerbated by being such a young team prone to mental lapses. I can’t help but chuckle at the, “maybe with maturity they’ll learn to respect their opponent” stuff. I mean - ya - we were the youngest team in hockey *by choice* for 5 years. The Sabres are performing as can only have been expected - - - on a slight tangent - it’s rather (see:very) insane that we have been bad forever and have precisely 1 top 10 pick F in the *entirety* of our system, including on roster.
  11. I pray this optimistic forecast is true. Doan will have to come close to it in order for the trade to be potentially balanced. It is correct that he brings a skill set that is sadly lacking.
  12. It’s a good point - It does seem to most mirror the feeling of having Tuch locked up to such a good contract and Tage in his prime firing on all cylinders not to mention Dahlin…the, damn we *really* could have something here but we are wasting it being comfortable with maybes and hopes in the now, in exchange for a future thst never seems to arrive. The D could be really quite good - retaining Byram at that price and even losing him yo UFA is a-oh-kay by me if made the playoffs in the interim: but we spoil it by apparently being content with paying for the D upgrade by weakening our F to the same extent There’s never been a recent roster I looked at and thought had no chance at making the playoffs - in fact I predicted it on a limb a couple times - but I think it’s clear our now very unique situation probably requires, but undoubtedly *deserves*, an approach far more significant than “well maybe, if everything goes right” We could make the playoffs next season and while id be ecstatic I wouldn’t view his approach, should there be nothing more of significance, as a good one even in hindsight: I think the fact we’ve utilized it to awful results so many times previous will proves that a reasonable sentiment we might make it - but we’ll need to get quite lucky
  13. In his interview with John Scott, Connor Clifton more or less confirmed that Peterka: Did not want to be in Buffalo and his teammates knew it. The implication to me was city, not team, but that was not specified Played hard when he felt like it. He also said JJ was ridiculously talented and will tear up the league for years. The Sabres definitely did not want to trade him
  14. Today
  15. Have to be careful on putting too many incentives into a contract like that because anything that would put them over the cap will be added to the $6.4MM Skinner dead cap next season. But like the outside the box thinking.
  16. Here's a random idea that could be a clever way to get another scorer Max Pacioretty, he's still unsigned and still wants to play Played very solid in the playoffs for the Leafs and even increased his hitting. In lieu of trading for a more assured upgrade; I'd throw him a 1mil contract with a few incentives and just see how it goes
  17. oh boy, better hype this one up 😄
  18. That rookie Landon Jackson is going on the PUP. Bills d-line might be a real problem to start the year.
  19. Pretty funny; regardless of our situation I can appreciate the social media team’s effort for fun. Dallas and Toronto are the best.
  20. There are 4 primary issues with Rust 1. Age 2. His stats are inflated by Crosby 3. Many potential buyers 4. Defensive play is questionable at best Also I have zero interest in moving our 2026 1st or Helenius for him. If you can use other pieces I can grin and bear it but don’t trade our only legit C prospect and the only safety net we have for next off season
  21. Difference between a hard cap league (NHL) and a soft (very) cap league (NFL) without fully guaranteed contracts.
  22. As the cap goes up this becomes more and more friendly. If we gotta trade him at the 2026-2027 deadline his salary really shouldn’t be a limiting factor on the return. This team better not screw this season up.
  23. Wasn't this a point of emphasis last summer too? Guys were saying they must be in top shape because it'll no longer be Donny's camp, but Lindy's and then later in the season we heard all about how players came in not in the best "game shape". What makes anyone think this year will be any different?
