  1. Past hour
  2. I've read mixed reviews of Jack Quinn's pre-season, so I thought I'd add Marty Biron's take from Sabres Live last week: Marty said that after watching him practice for a few weeks, he's flat out predicting 30 goals.
  3. Apartment hunting in Rochester
  4. Power is skating in a non contact jersey and Alexandar Georgiev is not on the ice. On waivers perhaps?
  5. Right now we have 4 players on IR - Greenway, Power, Kesselring and UPL Who goes when they come back? Our extra players are 2 goalies (Ellis and Georgiev), 2 forwards (Geeraten & Kozak) and arguably 1 D if we keep only 7 D in Buffalo (Bryson or Johnson) If I were making the decisions: Greenway in for Kozak Kesselring in for Georgiev Power in for Bryson UPL in for Ellis
  6. Buffalo loves their Sabres. It's that simple You don't have to be a winner to get loved by your fan base
  7. Wasn't going to spend any time worrying about a Tuch deal until the even of the regular season. (Checks calendar)
  8. I think they can thank Josh Doan for this is. Kid was working that Tim Horton's drive-thru window hard.
  9. As others have said, Ranger games sell well. I don’t expect them to do well with tickets till the team starts winning. A couple of things, though. 1) while Buffalo gets a lot of heat for it, opposing fans making up 25% of the crowd has become the norm around the league in roughly 80% of the building. It’s in large part a function of the ease of getting tickets on the secondary market, although there are other factors. 2) I understand all the pessimism but my point was that it’s not as universally felt as some people tend to believe. 3) Last year I sold roughly 100 tickets at, or above cost. At least half of those to Sabre fans. I also know that at least half those Sabre fans are as pessimistic as anyone on this board. However, people still like to go for a multitude of reasons.
  10. First 6 opponents - NYR, Bos, Avs, Sens, Panthers, Canadians. On paper are we as good or better than any of these teams?
  11. It might get to the point where the Sabres have to actually pay people to attend. And even then, demand might be low.
  12. ok but maybe they are rewarding players for winning. I don't know but they win and we don't. Hard to compare them to us
  13. Thanks GOD my son has a soccer game on opening night. It will be the first opener since the 70s that I will miss. Checks phone after 1st period - down 1-0 Checks phone after 2nd period - down 3-0 Final - 5-1 NY
  14. They're not that cheap. Yet.
  15. I think the Sabres would like to go less for longer or have a back loaded deal. They have to get over the bad Skinner year, and if they sign Tuch to a shorter 10M plus deal it leaves little room for the RFA's. They would have to dump contracts if everything else stays equal. Still a lot of possibilities but longer for less is the easier path for the Sabres right now.
  16. Today
  17. Ranger games usually sell well - especially when UB is in session. I'll be there, sitting near Chet and Muffy. (Although, Muffy doesn't go to many games anymore given that the arena has become a bit of a dump. Plus, in-seat service stopped offering Sauvignon Blanc which is a beverage dealbreaker for her.)
  18. This is exactly it. Adams has utterly bungled this team's goaltending situation. He's made a complete hash of it. His hubris with Levi is a key factor as well.
  19. While I don’t apologize for exercising my 1st Amendment rights, it’s unfortunate that you took such umbrage to what once was a common expression back in the 70s. I’ll chalk it up to the large generation gap that I presume exists between us. It’s also unfortunate that you took my sincere effort to clarify as a feeble attempt to “explain it away.” I didn’t think I needed to “explain it away” in the first place. If my “F off and die” post about Musk was the day this forum “crossed the line” then perhaps this is a fitting as my last post for me in this forum as the issue has now come full circle. Maybe I’ll give in to the nostalgia bug and order up one of these: https://vintagesponsor.com/products/70-s-80-s-*****-off-and-die-t-shirt-s-m In the meantime, please accept my sincere wish to you and yours for all the good this world has to offer. Peace.
  20. As you point out, the McDavid deal is a contract that specifically deals to his situation. It made a lot of sense for him to get a bridge deal that will get him to the next NHL elevated financial agreement. The player and his representatives made a deal that they believed was in his best interest. How does this contract affect Tuch? I don't think it does. Tuch is in a much different situation. He's now in his prime and in a few years he will probably be on a downslide. So maybe he would rather lock in a longer-term deal now. What's also interesting is how does the Sabre organization view the Tuch contract scenario. Would they rather give him a bulked up short-term deal or give him a longer deal that will carry them over into the new NHL higher cost landscape? What makes the situation more complicated for all parties is that next year the financial landscape will change and everyone will have to adjust to that richer reality. The players who will be the most affected are players such as Dahlin and Tage who already have signed long-term contracts and will soon have undervalued contracts.
  21. Kind of like building from the net out using castoffs and the waiver wire.
  22. I think a lot of this is rewarding people who have been part of the Cup runs and an attempt to extend their window of opportunity by a few years. They could just gradually fade away like Pittsburgh. I prefer this more than the cutthroat approach Vegas took. Pittsburgh should have moved on from their old core before now though but I like that the “wiz” GM Kyle Dubas continues to flounder. I better watch what I say, TP could hire him down the road.
  23. True but there is an discussion in this thread about extending players beyond their early thirties. Florida now has 9 contracts that go beyond that. He did not have to make that many of those deals. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Just pointing it out because we have zero contracts like that except the Skinner buyout.
  24. Correct. Everyone on the team has to toughen up and have a pack mentality. There aren’t many “staged” fights anymore because most teams don’t want the hassle of carrying someone who is a liability and only gives you 5 minutes. They would rather pay a semi tough guy who can play 10 minutes in another role and hold his own if things get out of hand. Ryan Reaves did not help the Leafs last year.
  25. Teams will spend too the cap. McDavid deal doesn't change that.
  26. They've won 2 Cups in a row.
  27. I just added Mikkola to Florida's list as he signed an 5x8 at 29 years old. They are up to 9 long term contracts for players well into the 30's. Time will tell if this does not blow up in Zito's face.
