Healthy Norris pushes players into the roles they are most suited for. If he stays healthy they can go on a run. He has to stay healthy though. Then get him on the Sammy plan over the summer.
-
Browsing through some hockey stats sites and stumbled on these nuggets. Are we bad? Or suffering from bad luck/injury? You decide…. I don’t think these stats include the Jets games. And the last one I threw in for giggles.

In fairness though, Doan is looking more like a bottom 6 guy lately as well. He's fine, but also not that great. Still remains to be seen if we won the trade or lost it (and it might actually be even) and we won't know at all until we see more from Kesselring.

Who do you move for Norris (and eventually Kesserling)?
Porous Five Hole replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
It is noteworthy to me that Östlund had a team low 12:03 of ice time last night. While we like everything we see from him, I believe he’s best suited in Rochester in all situations for now. -
The comparison is meaningless. Ottawa didn't think Cozens was going to be as good as Norris. They traded for a guy they thought could play regularly rather than a guy who is always on IR. Nobody has ever doubted Norris' talent, it's always about his ability to stay healthy and still is.
-
Interesting. Ik cozens has only 4 ev goals this yr but didn't realize it's only 1 over the last month.

I don’t know about separating himself. Lyon did not play much in November after carrying the load prior to that. It’s hard to trust UPL based on this. Last year he was terrible, Reimer finished the season much better than UPL.

I don't think UPL is clearly the #1 moving forward. He seems to have some of his best spurts, past and present, whenever he senses some new competition for him coming into the picture. Overall, though, he sometimes looks good, once in a brief while he looks very good, he never looks great. And often he doesn't look good at all. In a 3 goalie situation on a perpetual loser like we've been, if they can't figure out who is the best, who is the worst, or who is in between, then they might as well take the easy way out and make it about the money by picking the cheapest one to be the #1 for now.

Three headed goalie monster coming to an end?
PerreaultForever replied to pi2000's topic in The Aud Club
lol, yes, I guess you could read it that way. I think you know I meant he is not going to be any better than he's already been. Ellis to me could be a Joey Daccord type. Late bloomer. -

Ellis will not clear. -
Kevyn is too much of a dolt to form an opinion that matters. The reason Levi is in the AHL is because he can be. Adams doesn’t have the brain power to understand that Devon might be their best goalie not to mention Adams isn’t smart enough to promote Levi and make the requisite roster moves to accommodate the transaction.
-
No ceiling means he could be the best athlete of all time
-
Ellis would never make it through waivers
-
it feels like they've soured on Levi... wouldn't be surprised if he's moved and Ellis is sent down to take his spot.

I think Lyon is Lyon and we know what he is. He's a career back up and he can give you some good games but he's nothing special and there's no ceiling. He can also be bad and that's why Detroit ditched him. UPL is UPL but he is the guy they paid to be the guy and Ellis is a little unknown with a possible ceiling still to come. I think they have to roll the dice and go with the younger guys who might be better than they have been, so UPL and Ellis. Then next year they compete with Levi and you just roll with the best 2. If they are convinced Levi will be their guy then they clear the competition by removing Ellis and they might do that but I wouldn't. -

PerreaultForever replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
It's simple but we don't have a real GM so it's not. You move 2 for 1 in a trade (even 3 for 1) to upgrade your starting roster. Failing that you move a non essential player for picks/prospects who go to Rochester. Problem solved. Obviously one of those moved should be a goalie. Kulich returns he could be sent down for conditioning. I'm not waiving Kozak. I'd trade Krebs before I did that. You can probably waive Dunne but it's risky. If you could trade Greenway I would. Another option, of course, is trading Tuch if you can't get to a number you like and his leaving at the end of the year seems likely. Not a preferred option, but losing him for nothing isn't preferred either. -
Agreed. Stats can show you some things you might miss following the puck and you don't always account for every player (especially as the camera follows the puck) but if you know the game the eye test will always tell you most everything you need to know and certainly everything important. Stats are a tool but they are just stats.

Sorting out the goalie situation shouldn't be as hard as they are making it to be. If Lindy and the other coaches can't figure out which one of the three goalies is least suited to presently be on this team, then maybe they should just put the 3 of them in a room and have them play 3-way rock, paper, scissors to settle it. -
How do the Sabres fare on this 6 game (5 on the WC) road trip?
Taro T replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
They're at NHL 0.500. They have 6 teams to leap frog to get into the playoffs. NHL 0.500 only gets you to 82 points which even in a weirdly low points total season will still miss the playoffs by a wide margin. The "real" 0.500 doesn't have any bearing on whether they make the playoffs or not. Get to NHL 0.600 and they'll be in. Regardless of whether they end up with no additional OTLs or get 16 more. -
We aren't ever going to agree on stats world and watching hockey in real life world so why do you even want to go there? Just accept me as an old former hockey player who is trapped in old school ideas and I will accept you as a video game raised younger person who has never played the game and thus doesn't fully understand it and we will each go on our way not agreeing with anything the other says. It's much simpler.

They're currently 4 under real .500, which means they will miss the playoffs by a considerable margin. They need to go 4-2 on this roadie to get to 2 under. Then we can start to daydream about gradually working their way up to 2 over and a Lindy redemption story. Any worse than 4-2 and all that's happened is that they are 6 games closer to missing the playoffs by a mile yet again. -

Östlund may have to go down temporarily while we sort out the goalie situation, hopefully sooner rather than later. Probably by the end of this road trip barring injury if I'm betting. I'd have Krebs available now, and Greenway later in the season if we get Kulich and Danforth back. - Yesterday

And if he pans out in his next stop, well, good for him. Just don't see him ever being THE guy in Buffalo.
