Most people would agree with you that this is not a deep roster. But the difference between now and looking back a couple to few years ago is that we now mostly have players who genuinely can play the role they are assigned, at least starting the season. There are fewer situations where a lower line caliber of player is required to play on a higher line or pairing than his talent should indicate. As an example, Samuelsson playing a third pairing role makes sense compared to him being on the top pairing. I like how Krebs plays as a third or lower-line player, but he is a not a top two-line player. But as you noted with your post, there is little depth on this roster to cushion against injuries. A good example of that is when Dahlin, our best player, got hurt last year and the team spiraled into the abyss. I really wished that KA would have added another second-line caliber of player this offseason. It not only would have added depth but also created more flexibility as to how the lines could be formed. It's not a surprise that this cautious GM fell short.

So sue me. I really don’t give two phucks what you think of the accuracy of the section I quoted. Your MAGA leaders have done nothing but exploit Kirk’s death since it happened and Kimmel, was right about that entirely. And they want people punished for simply exercising free speech. That is wrong. Period. I never said a damn thing about Tucker Carlson when he was fired, only that even though he is a rank a$$hole and his rhetoric is offensive, he has every right to be a rank a$$hole spewing offensive rhetoric in this country. Same with Brian Kilmead who said homeless people should be killed. Companies can fire whoever the phuck they want, so spare me your bull$hit on that score. I’m done engaging you on these matters. I don’t buy your passive aggressive advocacy for Trump and all things MAGA. Your lack of condemnation of their blatant anti-American, anti-Constitutional, anti-rule of law ideology has been telling since this admin took office. Failure to speak out against makes you complicit. Congratulations. Put me on ignore.

I like McDaniel. He’s not the usual NFL Corporate stooge.

Respectfully and honestly, can you provide some examples from Bruin camps in the last 5-6 years of multiple players who were competing for a job or two? Because, the idea of camp competition seems mostly a myth to me. I think most years, most NHL teams go to camp knowing who will be in their line-up on opening day, barring injury. Some years there are openings in spots 19-23 for the kid or AHL vet who shows the best in camp, or a team is up against the cap and they have a spot or two open for the player on an ELC or a league minimum deal to prove they belong in the NHL. But these aren’t the players or roles that typically make or break a season. Top 6 centre talent, youth and inexperience, coaching deficiencies, inconsistent to bad goaltending, ineffectual management. These are the Sabres’s issues, I think. I just don’t see camp competition or bottom of the line-up depth, as being big factors.

Ftr, I don't have a problem with Geertsen but if he's playing more than 20 games as a 4th line plug, you've got problems.
-
I actually agree with you here. There's no real depth.
-
So would you have had the 30 forwards who show up to camp all skate together as a giant mega-line? Would you have drawn names from a hat? Or put vets with non-vets so that you can see if there might be true chemistry between Tage Thompson and Tyler Kopff? What would you propose for the first practice?

I'd call it the perfect win ... just good enough to get the W without getting McDaniel fired 😁

Sabres Tickets - Shockingly Cheap to Start the Year
OrangeSeatVertigo replied to Mango's topic in The Aud Club
he sees what everyone sees. this is a dead organization with no real way out. the ghost of Punch Imlach could come back and FA still have the Sabres at the top of their contracts' no trade list. -
There's nothing to be done, because his claim that we have depth now is false. There's virtually no internal competition at all. There's a couple guys who could swap spots in the bottom 6 and that's it. Everything is set before camp begins. Where's the competition for jobs?

I think some of you are spoiled. If it’s not a 51-0 win then it is a disaster. Put Oliver and Milano back in, add the 2 suspended players and Hairston at corner and the D is in a much better place. As was mentioned earlier, they need to stretch the field a little more. Find ways to open up Palmer and Coleman downfield. But again 30 points week in and week out is pretty impressive. Cook has become special and a healthy Kincaid is a big weapon.

What would you have done for your first day lines?

You quoted kimmels words, "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”, then you said, "Kimmel spoke the truth, simple as that." Now you're saying you were only claiming Kimmel spoke the truth when he gave his opinion on "MAGA gang" motives, but not the blatant lie about the shooter? You're further stance is that it doesn't matter anyway because his parents are Trump supporters so that's close enough? The shooter being in a relationship with his transgender roommate and leaning left politically is not your typical MAGA person. For the record, I don't think Kimmel should be fired for political theater, but his first amendment rights were not violated and I won't bitch about it. I don't think Colbert should be fired for political theater, but his first amendment rights weren't violated and I didn't bitch about it. I forget, were you screaming "FIRST AMENDMENT!!" when Tucker Carlson was fired? I don't think he should have been fired for political theater but i didn't bitch about it, wouldn't you agree I'd be a hypocrite if I did?

No, he's supposed to have a truly competitive camp and mix things up to give the roster a chance to form itself. If you are a championship team sure, you might have a predetermined roster, but if you were a bag of crap you should be looking to do things differently. This lacks imagination to me and looks like a roster that will play basically the same way.

I do think that a lot of that comes down to it being a division game on a thursday. Next week’s opponent is even further down, but with those extra 3 days, it’ll probably look more like what we expect.
-
I kind of got the feeling the Bills played down to their opponent tonight. And they still scored 31 points. Woof, what an offense.
-
The Fins chance to make a run at a win was dashed with the roughing the kicker penalty in the fourth quarter while it was a tie game. A generation ago if that happened to us, we would have called it a Billsy way to lose a game. I’m still not used to other teams finding ways to lose when the Bills don’t. But I’ll take it!
-
Kimmel’s truth was in saying that Trump and the rest of the GOP far right have insisted on exploiting Kirk’s death for political gain a d insisting that the killer was some far left radical. I don’t know or much less care if he was MAGA or not and not that it matters, but he comes from a Trump voting family. And it’s beyond disgusting that Vance and others want people to be fired for simply quoting Kirk’s own words. Some of us care about our first amendment rights. Too bad this radical, fascist wing of the GOP doesn’t.

Ha, my dishwasher beeped at the exact moment the clock expired. How can I monetize this?
-
Prater seems to be right on the money. What happened to that other guy?
-
And the sixth-leading passer in the division. The defense stole a win against Baltimore, held the Jete (ok, not a major achievement) to 3 points until garbage time, and probably stole the game again tonight. The lack of ability to stretch the field on offense, the drops, and some of the playcalling are bigger concerns to me right now.
-
It is kind of strange to watch the peaks and valleys for this defense. Hell, last week Justin fields was the 4th leading passer in the game.
-
The defense isn't dropping passes. The defense just forced Tua to throw it away on a four man rush. I'm not the biggest fan of the Bills' D, but that's not the problem at the moment.
