The Sabres wouldn’t hire the very best coach in the entire world, even if that coach begged TP and KA to hire him. They are committed to naming Seth Appert as the next HC….whenever Lindy is done. It’s sad, but inevitable.
-
So Jarmo is on Sabres Live, Yeesh Duff and Biron are throwing slow pitch softballs. Jarmo said he's 24/7 invested did they ask if he's moving to Buffalo? No, they spent time driveling about Clarkson... Not one question about his role in the Sabres going forward. Apparently questions about Kevyn and his input is taboo. Oh great we are now talking computers and AI. I get Duff's role but Marty on TSN is a different Marty on Sabres Live. What a waste of 19 minutes I'll never get back

I, for one, believe Appert is a good coach. He'll be successful as a head coach in the NHL if put in the right situation as a rookie HC. He's energetic and has charisma. Players like him. He was successful in Rochester and helped develop guys like Krebs, Peterka, Kulich and Quinn. That said, I don't believe Buffalo is a good fit for him to take over HC duties. Buffalo needs a veteran HC with a recent track record of success in the NHL, someone the young players can trust and lean on... not somebody learning the ropes.

Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block
Mr. Allen replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
No. I can assure you he was “stuck” with the assistants given to him. -
Do you know that Ruff chose to stay with the assistants he has? I have heard nothing either way but that seems unusual and unlikely.
-
Met him a few times. The line of him, Scott Nichol & Dan Frawley was a wrecking ball. Just a menace to the opposition.

I’m with Weave, knowing the make up this team not sure any coach could be successful. Regarding Appert as the heir apparent; if we don’t make playoffs this year I don’t believe KA will have a voice about the next coaching staff.

Relative to DeBoer? I mean ya Sabres could do a Jarmo/DeBoer GM coach duo if they wanted. They could make the playoffs in 2026 if they wanted to

Every vacancy has been filled and if Sabres aren't moving, who by the end of weekend? Not being a smart ass to your post, he has cycled through a lot of teams already. Only team I could see would be the Isles, new GM gave Roy approval but now? -

Are you saying Ruff chose to not bring in his own assistants? -

I should clarify that DeBoer would get to change assistants, just like Ruff can but has chosen not to. -
Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Right or wrong his legacy is to quit at the first signs of controversy, and was he ever really qualified to be a POHO? I do believed he was wronged by both Terry and Murray and the rest of the Sabres clown show at the time, but nothing in his post career indicates that he was ready to be a POHO. -
Right now there are too damn many gaps to tell. Get an established 1G and spend to near the cap on good vets, and maybe we can answer the question in the title.
-
Wilford is here because Dahlin and Power both really like him.
-
And DeBoer will publicly blame the assistants and the goalies, much to Terry's chagrin.

The league is full of ex Sabres. Some are stars that were mistreated, some were solid players that didn't fit the plan of the ever-changing new regimes, some were just young players that they moved on from. The league is full of Evan Rodrigues types of payers. Rodrigues is a former Sabre. He looks great as a role player on an already great team, he takes advantage of that and he works hard and contributes, but put him on a average or below average team and ask him to carry some weight and he is no longer nearly as good. To the question at hand, the Sabres head coach selections after Lindy Ruff was fired were Rolston, Nolan, Bylsma, Housley, Krueger, Granato, and then back to Ruff. I doubt that even our best Pegula apologists can find a team with a worse HC hiring record over any 14+ year time frame in the NHL. Same with the GM. Good and great players have been here, but the coaching has not been. Again, a former Sabre and former coach told me how bad it was under the Adams/Granato rebuild and he predicted the next coach after Granato would struggle mightily because of it. That just happened. The lack of success is 100% due to the Sabres Front Office and its because the Owners have been running things into the ground.

DeBoer would be a great coach for this team. Great record except for not getting a Cup - he's due. Unfortunately, there is NFW the Sabres hire him. I'm sure DeBoer will have a new job by the end of the weekend.

Yea but that is the nature of humanity. Innocent people will suffer but you needed this to happen if you want it to get exposed. Funniest part is some people are so broken they think it's all scripted.

Handcuff DeBoer with the existing assistants, goalies and they probably still miss. -
