What do we think of the Sabres defence corps?
PerreaultForever replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
If. That's the question. So far he has not shown any signs of using his body or developing good D habits. It's still early in his career and he can, but we have to see signs of it to have that hope realistically. -
Sabres have elected arbitration with Byram
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
That's delusional though. There's nothing to indicate goaltending will be better and the team isn't better and yet teams around it are better. It's just that simple. KA is the worst GM in the league. I think I could play goal for the swamp cats the way they play D. -
They’re trying to buy a championship.
-
Funny, I clearly recall folks right here saying Ullmark wasn't good enough as a Sabre. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
-
It’s noteworthy
-
Yzerman isn't exactly doing great in Detroit so... But no, I don't think Lyon alone gets us to the playoffs. Upl will start too many games.
-
If power played defense like mrtka, I'd like him more.
-
Not seeing that myself, other than Montreal. Other than that, this was the summer of shuffling deck chairs.
-
He doesn’t have to smash anybody but he could be an excellent/upper tier NHL D man if he would physically impose his will. Doesn’t gotta be mean just a little more intense.
-
build it up? they were in the frozen four this past year.
-
TBD to be honest

Yikes -
I know you didn't ask me, but I'd say it's too early to tell. I hate the man, his messaging sucks, but he's got some wins to go with the losses.
-
I clicked on the first one I saw Demoted post, and this is in no way a shot at him or his videos, but I've never clicked on a second one.
-
Ya I mean that’s gonna be a cool 10 in a row for the blue jays
-
But, it worked for the Swamp Cats. Having Alex as the backup HAS to be a plan.

Yep. Billionaire owners and ran one of the lowest team salaries in the league every year but the 1st year Adams was the GM (and apparently this year too; but will wait until all the dust settles to say that for sure) and never ONCE took on a bad salary for a prospect or a pick nor acted as the intermediary in a 3 way trade to take on salary for a prospect or a pick. And every single time that cap space that they hoarded every year evaporated the day the regular season ended. Wouldn't it have been nice to have 2 more 2nd round picks, 1 more 3rd and another Savoie that could've been moved for players to help today? But courtesy of buying out Skinner in a season they didn't have to and in a season they didn't bother replacing his salary, they're running with $4MM less cap space than they could've and next year they run with $6MM less cap space. Soooooo frustrating. They may get lucky one of these years; maybe even this one. But planning on getting lucky when you aren't Leonardo DiCaprio probably isn't the best plan.

but Owen's hair? -
Stop distorting what has been said. I'm certainly not make a declaration that our current goalie staffing is adequate or not. I don't know. That's the unknown. What I and others have said is if we get consistent goaltending we should be in a position to compete for a lower playoff spot. If you disagree, that's fine.

Power doesn't have to start smashing people around (as nice as that might be to think about) but he does have to start using his size and boxing people out. His defensive skills are somewhat lacking at this point. Part of that is on the Sabres, and part of that is on him. So you didn't like the Mrtka pick then? 🙂 -
At this point it's a whatever. There is no ( and never was a ) long term plan and there was no actual roadmap to fix what is wrong with this team, goaltending and actual defense, this summer. Adams makes moves just to look like he is doing something without actually accomplishing anything. Whether Byram stays or goes it doesn't matter. Keeping Byram is the failed status quo while trading him almost assuredly diminishes the team further. Remember that this is the GM who has traded away our 5 most productive Sabres drafted and developed forwards. Gone are Eichel, Reinhart, Mitts, Cozens and JJP. In return we have Tuch, Krebs (4th liner), Norris (oft-injured), Kesselring, Byram (?), Doan (bottom 6), Levi (minors), Kulich, Östlund (minors), and JBD (released). This looks like a huge downgrade in talent and the results in the standings speak for themselves. Why would any fan expect Adams to get good value for Byram and players who would actually improve the team?

I do not believe that is true. Too many teams around them got better and they just shuffled out a little offense for a little defense and switched fringe goalies. Consider for example that Detroit traded for Gibson because Lyons wasn't getting it done and now we think signing him is going to get us in the playoffs? Stop dreaming. As I said, Detroit ditched Lyons and now we think he will get us in the playoffs? Seriously? -
Many teams are not cap strapped like the post Covid years. KA’s failure to weaponize his extra cap space for 5 years is the straw that broke my camel’s back. Whether adding for a playoff run or taking on salary for picks/prospects, those days are gone.

Not trying to be an a$$, but can this group actually play DEFENSE well in our own zone? No doubt it is a highly talented group, but I wonder if it still has enough snarl, physicality and a defense first mentality. I hope they prove me wrong. Also, somebody please fire Wilford in a rocket off into the sun -
Yea... could have had Cossa but nope... Rosen.
