  1. Past hour
  2. I know the reaction to acquiring Lyon wasn't too strong/favorable, but when I heard we got him I was pretty excited. I'm not sure he's a long term answer but he certainly has shored up the position for now.
  3. Paraphrasing his remarks at the end of the interview: "JJ who?"
  4. I think the players that deserve letters, thinking of guys like Benson and Zucker, are just as effective as leaders without an extra jersey patch. I think some day it will naturally fall on Benson, but as has been said in the past about other recent captains/assistants, let him grow into it; don't thrust it on him.
  5. I hope your assessment is right. I would love for them to be the veteran leaders of this young team. I'm just not seeing it so far this season. I heard the problem with Tuch's signing is length of contract. They want to lock him up for as long as possible and he wants a shorter term.
  6. Look who the poster children are for that tweet. No surprise. Among the forward ranks this will soon be their team.
  7. The difference is Doan knows how to play net front. No more no less, but it changes everything.
  8. I'm just happy it was one of our guys.
  9. Oh hell no. Barkov is the best 2 way center in the league. You don't replace that and they are not anywhere near the same team without him. Norris? Well it's hard to comment since he can't finish a game. He's basically just dead cap.
  10. 5 games in and we are all feeling better about the start. 0-3 w a -8 after 3 games has given way to 2-3 w a -1 after 5 games. Benson coupled with Doan seems to have raised the team’s competitiveness. Lyon is hanging in there in goal, the PK has been improved since game 1, while the PP was executed the last two games after a terrible start. I’m glad the team is showing some backbone and climbing out of the pit of despair. Now go 4-1 in the next 5 and prove to the fans there is some there there.
  11. Today
  12. PP has looked good for 2 games thanks to Benson’s return and a complete departure from idle passing and hoping Thompson puts the puck through the goalie, net, boards, and the unlucky fan in the 1st row.
  13. If you bring up Rosen you can bench Quinn. But I think 5 games is a little quick for a hook on a kid, give him 10 before you put him in the suite. We've seen Rosen in the NHL and... nothing. Geertsen didn't scare anyone today except the refs. And the status of the game -- close score, Florida constantly getting PPs -- they weren't going to entertain any fights from him. Maybe if it had gotten out of hand, but they're a savvy, well-coached team. Only Marchand ever lost his cool. But Greenway will take his spot on line 4 soon enough.
  14. They finally got some hard-nosed two-way players (Benson, Zucker, and now Doan) to support the established top six scorers, including the only skater on the team capable of 45+ goals, and we're already looking to move on from the scorers already? Do we want another perpetual rebuild?
  15. It takes a special breed of stupid to have that “I want to go after the 18 year old” mentality.
  16. Greenway is close to coming back. Kesselring is skating on his own. Norris was reported as 8 weeks out.
  17. Doan has been good and shows a lot of promise, lots of hockey left too. Benson could emerge as a scorer this year. He is creating, soon we will see more finishing. The Sabres should not move Tuch for not singing long term, they should prefer that add 3 or 4 years. Tuch is a good player. The season is 5 games old and Thompson and Tuch are not outsiders.
  18. As of now Sabres have the 4th best power play and the #1 penalty kill in the NHL.
  19. Benson seems to slow the game down when he has the puck and doan is an upgrade with 2 way and physical play. If kesselring is legit, that's a nice haul
  20. That explains the lower minutes. I thought it was fantastic. Dahlin drills Marchand. Marchand retaliates and get suckered into a minor penalty. Then the helmet antics. We score on the PP for the coup de gras. In the post game interview I thought Dahlin answered questions on Marchand and this scrum with class and respect. https://www.nhl.com/sabres/video/rasmus-dahlin-postgame-vs-fla-6382981612112 He said this is the way they are going to play going forward.
  21. So many positives to take away from today’s game, such a pleasant shock!
  22. It came alive a bit today, also Lyon looks good guys, we are in the toughest division, but this team has more heart and so do we
  23. Good opening slate for the Sabres tonight. Sens, Habs, and Lightning lose in regulation. Leafs get a loser point but no more. (And although it's early, Boston trails in Colorado.)
  24. I am surprised. Particularly by the PK. They've really limited shots from the slot and Lyon has been lights-out. The PP has been good, but it's because Zucker and Doan are going and standing in front of the goalie. It's uniqe for Appert historically, but it's nothing revolutionary around the league. (They've gotten a couple fortuitous bounces.)
  25. Personally, I send him down for an AHL conditioning assignment. He lasted one period in the preseason.
