Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson attending US Olympic Team orientation camp
dudacek replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
It will be interesting. Debrincat wasn’t invited, Robertson wasn’t on the 4 Nations team and Conner was benched 4 nations, so USAHockey may like those guys less than you do. I think Tage is U.S.A.’s 2nd best scorer and Tuch exactly the type I’d want in my bottom 6 so they’d be on my team🤷 But Ill be rooting for Canada so more Chris Kreisler please. -
I mean if all of them had a mean streak I’d say it would matter but Power, Samuelsson, Byram and Timmons (from what I read) are all cupcakes. The bottom tier haven’t made it to the NHL yet so until they do I won’t get excited about them. The fact that they keep bringing up Bryson over Novikov is a bit concerning also, is he still not ready yet? He can’t beat out an average player like Bryson?

Jokiharju was a square peg last year. He’s gone. Clifton was objectively terrible last year. He’s gone. The biggest need was a physical RHD who could play 2nd pair minutes. Kesselring appears to be exactly that. The Sabres sucked at xGoals last year. They added 2 D in Kess and Timmins who measured very well in that stat. Dahlin is elite and he and Byram were analytically an elite first pair. Power should have better partners supporting him. Byram and Power are very talented and now have enough experience where it should start to show through. Samuelsson can and should be better, will be playing in a lesser role, and is coming in with a lot to prove. The defence corps is among the league’s biggest and can skate very well. The pieces seem to fit together in a way they never did with Bryson, Jokiharju and Clifton. Johnson and Novikov are close and might be ready to be better depth options than Bryson. I realize there remains projection involved and the coaching could be an obstacle, but I am more bullish on this D corps than any other aspect of the team. It could be legitimately good.

OT:Golisano donating $50M to what will become Golisano Children's Hospital.
Pimlach replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
Golisano did not like spending big money on the hockey team. He was not a spend what it takes to win guy. He saved the team for Buffalo but not with a burning desire win. His current generosity is certainly noble and greatly appreciated. Terry came in with the opposite thoughts. He was an alleged Superfan, now owner, and he said money would not hold the team back. He would “drill another well” if he had too. Unfortunately, 15 years later he has not yet figured out the hockey business. The Pegula’s have also been very generous. The Harbor Center is awesome and it anchors Canal Side. When we were kids this area now called Canal Side was decrepit. It’s a thriving and fun place today. Buffalos water front is very nice and downtown is cleaned up a lot. Terry has also makes a positive impact on the community, not to mention the Bills are a legitimate NFL franchise. -

Longshot but a very interesting pickup. He’s a UsNDtp grad and played in Michigan state last year so right in their wheelhouse. Brian Savages son, and a D-first hardworking centre with history of wearing letters. Shoulder injury ended his senior year and might have cost him an NHL contract offer.

Just look at how coaching in the Olean Oilers Pee Wee House League has helped our guy run an NHL franchise. -
Unless Levi turns into Hasek this season there is no savior, we've had scoring but we've never had it with solid defensive play. Just adding Kesselring isn't going to improve the defense so much that it puts us over the top imo. We needed to go big or go home defensively and we ***** the bed again! It's more doom and gloom in my eyes unfortunately, I'll watch until it's unwatchable once again which seems to be the life of a Sabres fan.
-
That's absurd, are they warranted for more? My buddy has a Tesla S and he eats tires from the torque. Like 2500$ each time and needs them like 3 times a year
-
I dont disagree on the coaching, I was kinda glad to get Lindy back initially because... well I am nostalgic... last year I was left wondering if the game passed him by... I will clearly look to this year to make a definitive call on that... but color me highly suspicious... I agree that the D is quite talented... its translating that into effective results... we are talented.. but are we balanced... are we effective... I did not see that, I did not see D man who were able to control the puck and play with the physicality required on a consistent basis to be a top unit in this league, combined with very suspect goaltending (although I am wondering if there is a chicken/egg thing going on here)... Our hope is that Kesselring brings out some physicality in power, maybe Timmins can be the quy we wanted Clifton to be... and we start to see some balance... if I am honest, I have no real hope for Muel or Bryson... Byram is the wild card... I am assuming he gets paired with Dahlin... can he match Dahlin's physicality which is not off the charts, but does actually exist in his play.. if he can do that in a pairing that could be highly effective... so there is hope, but there needs to be fundamental change.

What do you base the four years on? Is it detailed financial data or just the age you think you should be at retirement. Have you done a detailed study of your spending to determine your wants and needs in the future? I retired “early” because of the corporate culture. I could not buy into all of the changes AND I was financially ready. It was a good move. I supplement my desire to be “busy and useful” by contracting my services - I work when I want to work. My close friend can retire right now at 59, but he is uncomfortable with it. His solution was to cut hours to part time and retain benefits. For many, Health care is the biggest concern. Until you get to Medicare it’s expensive to pay for a good plan.

Damn, yes. I'm also in my 40s with no Kids and not married. For years I always got the "when are you gonna settle down" speech. I like randomly being able to fly to Asia on a whim or do whatever. I can't fully retire yet (jealous) but I have some debts to pay off and then I def will younger. I don't know many people our age without kids or a wife or ex(s)
-
Too much poll. I may a few minutes
-
I get the same *****. My family always around the holidays telling me I need to get a wife and have kids. Meanwhile they complain about how much they have to work to support said family, but here I am 40 and retired and I have the problem.
-
Patients that know everything... Or family that does.... Come into the room "I know what's happening and I'll tell you how you need to treat him" How about your husband is a very obese diabetic with heart failure, uncontrolled diabetes, and multiple stents who has a raging infection. Oh and last month his cultures showed resistance to the medicine you're pushing me to give. "well, I know what does and doesn't work for him" my guess is maybe there's a life insurance policy in there. Also he needs IV Tylenol every 3 hours or else he gets altered..... Ummmm, no, that will trash his liver but thanks for playing.
-
To be honest I do not expect someone or their improved performance to come in and magically save the day.. still the 2nd youngest team, still yet to see them gel in a way that is conducive to winning hockey, lots of perimeter guys, soft D and Bad goaltending... that combination is simply not conducive to playoffs and or and even worse playoff hockey ... I feel like we are counting on a couple of really unknown players like Kesselring, Doan and Danforth to come in an change the direction of a culture... not confident that these new young players are going to do that... maybe they have more of an impact than Lafferty, Malenstyn and Kubel but I think we get pretty much same old same old... so I am with you... I don't see a white knight nor a level of experience that changes this course... In fact I see at least an equal likelihood that not only do we not make the playoffs... but that there is a push for exodus from our core star players like Dahlin, Tage, and Tuch... time will tell, new players new hope.. but it feels a bit like an unfounded wish while we are whistling by the graveyard....

And once he leaves you must close his entry point. If you don’t you will have more bats - as in plural.

It does seem to be a talented top 6. Coaching is the biggest limiter, and will almost surely hold back any claims of “one of the better units in the league”. *sigh*
-
https://thehockeywriters.com/sabres-blue-line-could-quietly-be-one-of-the-nhls-best/ The Sabres’ blue line can be one of the better units in the league; it’s just a matter of health and the new additions clicking with the returning players. There are a lot of “If’s” with this unit, though. “If” they stay healthy, “If” everything pans out, and so on. I expect big things from the defense this season. We’ll see if they meet my expectations, which is that they help the Sabres get into the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

JohnC replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
The difference between Golisano and Pegula is that Golisano is smart enough to recognize what he doesn’t know and wise enough to hire people who know what they are doing. And I’m sure that he wouldn’t interfere too much while the hockey people were doing their jobs. That is not to say that he wouldn’t be so aloof that he wouldn’t hold the staff accountable. -

I don’t want to deviate from the topic relating to his generosity however how much different would it have been if he continued to be the owner instead of selling it to Terry P? -
Yeah, but then you see that his first name is Redmond and the name immediately loses its edge.

40 years out from retirement and I am feeling ready now. Ok, far less than 40, but it sure does feel like it with a 3 and 1 year old in the house.

Welcome to Putins America, his little Trump puppet. @Hank you ever want to add anything real to the conversation you are more than welcome to, or just keep getting as you say "triggered"
