So if the Sabres won cups in, say 1975, 1999 and 2006, you'd be fine with how things are doing?

Maybe not fine but I could take some solace that the team actually did the thing they are all trying to do

We tend to forget Detroit is right behind us in the playoff drought parade.

lol ya right behind, just a mere Kevyn Adams regime. 5 years like that is nothing, this last stretch has been the best of drought so far!

Simply the drought *difference* between us and Detroit is as long or longer than the active total drought of 28 of the 32 teams

It's nice to know we're not alone in the hole

Even if they're relatively new neighbors and we're the stalwart of suck 😃

At this point a Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan can't point to the "year they won it all" to fall back on. So.. yeah, I'd be a happier person than I am now simply because I would at least know what that feeling once in my life.

It may not be much, but it is more than nothing!

This Detroit drought comes on the tails of that streak where they made the playoffs for something like 200 straight years. It bugs the hell out of those fans.

They had a quiet period from '67-'82 with only two appearances. And then...

30 playoffs in 32 years. 4 Stanley Cups.

They can go pound... um... octopus.

Stevie Y was on the downslope of his career (season 14) when that group won their first Cup in 1997.  With what a great player he was, his career was nothing but frustration for over a decade.

By the way, I touched the Cup in Detroit the day they won it.  It was on display in downtown Dee Troy It that afternoon.

Nope.. but it's also why I specifically called out the Bills and Sabres and not "Buffalo sports fans".  I realize the Bandits have had success, I just don't consider it as big a deal. It's certainly great for fans of the team and I am sure it's a good thing in the NLL circles but it's not the same. At least not to me.

Understand that sentiment.  And still REALLY want to see the Sabres hoist Lord Stanley's Chalice, but for now, personally, take solace from having been in the Aud for their last championship in that building and also from having been there when the short-lived Stampede won a title.
