Yes, tragic ending but kind of crazy. He wasn't just a battling top, he was dirty. He caused havoc. Him and Dudley together was an awesome line. Wasn't as much of a rat as Marchand but he had his share of altercations that he initiated.

Of course I know what you meant, but I'm not ever going to praise Dougie Gilmour. I knew people who worked at Maple Leaf Gardens that said they were still covering for him in Toronto well past the St. Louis incident. Dude was scum.

I get that Gilmore was a scumbag but he was also a great player. I wasn't praising Gilmore, I was praising Benson.

Yeah, Barnaby was a scrappy, Eddie Shore type player. But I don’t recall him being a dirty player like Marchand. Then again, I could be misremembering.

I mostly remember him just running his mouth constantly. And he must’ve been good at it because it seemed like he was hated.

The licking was certainly a low class act. No matter what you think of him as a player you can’t criticize him for not always playing with passion and effort. 
 

To show you that I do have some standards, if he would have French kissed another player on the ice, I would retract my positive comments about him. An affectionate rat on the ice is not something I will tolerate. 🫣

I am not gonna lie... watching him meltdown was freaking hysterical... Dahlin got his helmet fixed and Thompson got him off.. no harm or foul... but the getting knocked on as a$$ the return check when he was going after him and the epic meltdown was worth the price of admission... LOL

Marchand is a great player. Perhaps the greatest player I would never want on my team. Like I said, IDGAF how good he is. I have standards for players and the classless need not apply.
