I always knew you get the "better stuff" in BC. Connor wants to stay. He’s the one who directed this contract and him only. Bowman is the recipient. CM is giving him two years extra to get them over the hump. If he doesn’t do it, McDavid is so gone after this extension. I don’t think this is a big wow on the GM. If CM wanted to be highest paid player, he’d be that. He’s driving this to help them get better. Quote

If there’s anyone who can afford to leave money in the table, it’s that guy. The only real shocker there is that he just signed on to be the second highest paid player on that team. 32 minutes ago, mjd1001 said: I wonder if he makes more or less than Matthews, with Matthews probably getting a lot more 'local money' being in Toronto vs Edmonton...with Toronto's metro population and wealth/GDP being...maybe 4 or 5 times what Edmonton is? Considering I read the average american (and probably canadians are close?) will earn somewhere around $1.6M for their entire working career ... i think they can ALL "afford" to leave money on the table. It would be even more interesting to see how the top earners from each sport compare to each other. Is it proportional to league average salaries? Proportional to TV contracts? Totally unrelated? Well, Manitoba is somewhat near. I guess Saskatchewan is somewhat in the way, but really, when is the last time anyone thought about Saskatchewan? Why, just the other day 😁 Quote
LTS Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I'll listen to what McDavid has to say about it. In the end he signed the deal and that's all that matters. There are certainly some concepts that cannot be applied any longer. There's no way to say McDavid's salary prevented building a winning team. He wants to win. I think he only has to look at the Panthers (who he has seen the past two finals) to understand that perhaps having the highest paid player in hockey is not the way to for a team to win a Stanley Cup. He's letting the Oilers go get resources and if they don't, he can demand the trade or wait it out. He's going to collect in 3 years.. one way another. Quote

McDavid will get all the national stuff though, especially since he’s a Canadian. I wonder how much money the porn stache has cost Matthews. Quote

We should ask Josh? Im thinking he's gotta be raking it in with enforcement deals, as he seems to appear in approx 10% of the TV commercials that I'm seeing of late? Quote

Note that Curry's number includes some of him owning a stake in some company. Quote

Not sure but he was probably around 10% for a good chunk of that first big deal. Interesting that Crosby has never been the highest paid player in any year of his career. Leaving a bit on the table helps them win 3 Cups imo. Quote

Quite often, one of the largest holdings of my retirement fund is potash producer Nutrien, their mining assets are primarily in Saskatchewan. Quote
