I’ve reviewed the video of that play.  I did see Samuelson move into the post hit gathering and give someone a push.   That’s more than you’d likely get out of Power.  Nobody else on the ice did anything.

No excuse, He is your biggest player and wears a letter.

Did we?

So what are we looking at now? (assuming Byram is moved)

Dahlin - Samuelsson????

Power-Kesselring

Bernard Docker-Clifton

Bryson

Does that actually inspire confidence in you???

I'd say we need more.

That's why I said I think. Nobody can answer the question until about 15-20 games into the season.

Muel needs to go. He's way too soft and injury prone to be penciled in as a consistent contributor as far as what this team needs.

Dahlin - TBD

Power-Kesselring

Bernard Docker-Clifton

Kesserling inspires hope that Power's softness will be offset, not confidence.

All of this is why I said we have other assets we can trade to get the pieces we need. However, I do not think we will get all of the pieces we need. Based on last year and our current roster we need a new 1LW, top pair Dman, a true 1C (Norris has never filled that role), and possibly a new starting goalie.

TBD TBD TNT

Zucker Norris/Kulich Tuch

Greenway McLeod Benson

Malenstyn Krebs Doan

Now everyone is gonna ask what about Kulich and Quinn. What about them? One has negligible NHL experience and the other came into last season woefully unprepared and sucked for most of the season. I'm not saying to write them off. I'm saying they are not dependable top six forwards until they consistently show they are dependable top six forwards. But they need opportunity. Ok, Quinn pissed away an entire season of opportunity and will have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt. Kulich I am more open to seeing what he can do.

Next will be Benson. The guy who can't finish scoring chances? 25 year old Benson should be a real good top six forward. 20 year old Benson is not yet there.

Kulich, Norris, Quinn, and Benson all show promise but hinging a big part of team success on four guys to stay healthy and reach that potential does not inspire any confidence.

At this point I would want to keep Byram with Dahlin. Package the 9th OA with Kulich or Norris and whatever else you need to find a 1C. If Quinn fixes himself and plays well enough or even Zucker, then one of them can move into the 1LW and the other fills the 2LW.

But this is where we are at after our GM built a young, soft team. IMO we can't hope guys are able to fill roles based on the last 15 games of another failed season where they were all playing with no pressure.  If anyone thinks we are ok with Benson starting the season in the top six, Norris as 1C, and Muel in the top four then they forfeit the right to complain when we miss the playoffs again.

If sammy is waived what is the cap implications?

Wgr was mentioning that if they don't buy him out this year, then it gets wayyy worse if they decide to after. This year is almost a slam dunk to get rid of him for peanuts. Seems like a missed opportunity to get out from a mistake if they don't

I guess that is what has been frustrating, mistakes happen but this regime seems unable to recognize one was made and the subsequently learn from said mistake.

Well the bottom line is we are now slightly better on D and substantially weaker at wing. If they trade Byram we are no longer better on D but maybe the D is slightly different. If we trade Byram for a winger said winger puts up 25-30 goals we are exactly the same with more shuffled deck chairs and an internal cap.

I said it earlier somewhere else, Adams and this franchise would trade their cars tires to get gas money

I don't think there are fans upset with Kesselrig & Doan, most just feel they should have gotten more for what they gave up, which also seems like a common thing for this franchise in taking less for their top assets. They point to making deals is to maximize your assets, and get the most you can for what you have. JJP was gone, he wanted out, he had a lot of value that should have been maximized and other assets could have been used for filling holes. Reports had the Sabres having 8-10 offers for JJP, one including 2 1sts & a roster player, another included Dobson from the Isles, the Wild offered Rossi +.......

Well imo we still need 3 pieces to have any sort of real chance. A top 6 forward to replace Peterka. Another solid D man so that Samuelsson can be dumped and at least a mid level veteran goalie to create a competition there and make Levi really earn it when ready. We still might not be tough enough with that and it wouldn't win in the playoffs but it might be enough to compete for the playoffs and maybe get in like Ottawa did.

Yes exactly, Kesselring and Doan are the type of players we can use and no issues getting them but giving up Peterka for them was a problem. We needed to give up some of that prospect cupboard to actually get better. The Savoie trade was the right idea but Adams hasn't been able to do more of them. Likely overvalues his picks and their ceilings.

Or we do.

Maybe our prospect pool isn't that desirable in these deals.

I think we are saying similar things. Muel sucks and has to go, and we need another top four dman. We do need to replace the production hole left by JJ's departure. In no way do I trust Quinn, Benson, or Kulich to do that. If KA did that and we still missed the playoffs I would lay even more of the blame on the players.

Maybe Adams is out smarting us all and he made the deal with JJP to set the market so he could get something really good for Byram?
