Fair enough - I expect Rossi to remain at C, though, honestly I haven't heard much suggestion he'd move to the wing. Have heard that with Jarvis and to a lesser extent Perfetti.

It’s not that I doubt that Rossi CAN play C.  I just wonder if an NHL coach is hesitant to play a 5’8” guy at C, starts him at W, he does really well at W because he is really good at hockey, and he just is a W forever.

If the people making the decisions are that one-track minded we are doomed anyways amirite

Maybe?  Rossi seems good at C.  Could he be just as or more impactful at W?  I dunno.

Also, it wasn’t really a Buffalo thing, but an NHL thing.  I’ve no doubt that some NHL coaches would have that hesitation.

My post wasn't to say that Rossi ending up on the wing would be terrible, merely that the scenario you referred to, where they never gave Rossi a shot at C "just because", is one that would preclude bad things.

Would it be so bad if he became another Reinhart?

Didn't say it would be. If the consensus is we gave Reinhart a fair shake at C, and he ended up on the wing because that was the right spot for him, and that's what happens with a hypothetical centre selection, that's fine. If the consensus is we didn't give Reinhart enough consistent stretches at C, with quality line mates, to ever explore that option properly, then yes I'd say they should follow a different path with the new hypothetical C. And Cozens for that matter.

I honestly do not for the life of me get being concerned over needing to supplement the roster with cheap ELC talent, as a priority, when we don't even have a roster, yet. Is that a hot take? I dunno.

Amen.  Fill a roster first, then collect ELC talent.  Is #8 the pick to move to fill the roster?  Show me the player first, then I'll decide.  But not trading it to keep a pipeline filled when the roster isn't filled is bass ackwards.

This would make a great off-season poll next week.

You like tension.
