Right now the Sabres are:

  • 25th in the league in scoring
  • 11th in goals against
  • 2nd on the power play!!
  • 27th in penalty kill
  • 28th in league standings

I want to say I hope that that awesome goal but O'Reilly last night is the turning point of the season and things will get better quick. But if not it was still a cool goal. The team is a lot more fun to watch regardless and they are young. The stats above show some real potential

The PP is where the upgrade in personnel has had the most effect, but let's not forget Dave Barr, who had some nice numbers with mediocre talent in Jersey.

The PK would be better with better goaltending. Not blaming the goalies, but we haven't really had the big save factor.

Don't overlook the fact we've taken the second-fewest number of penalty minutes in the league.

This is a well-coached, disciplined team.

Kind of surprising how bad the pk is when our overall goals against is really good.

Who would want to face the Sabres in the first round of the playoffs with our power play and stingy defense. Just saying.

Right now the Sabres are:

  • 26th in the league in scoring
  • 12th in goals against
  • 9th on the power play!!
  • 27th in penalty kill
  • 28th in league standings --Behind Leafs now :(
  • 15th in SOG

Strange that they're top 3rd in goals against, but terrible on the PK.    You'd think those two stats would be similar.

DFL in PIMs per game, per NHL.com.  Probably accounts for the variance.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

They've also (from the eyeball test, haven't looked up the stats to confirm it) been much better on the pk in the last month or so than they were in October.
