  1. 1. How I feel about this player:

    • 5: Must keep under any circumstances.
      1
    • 4: Would like to keep; would trade only for a great return (if under contract) or would pay a premium to re-sign (if FA).
      22
    • 3: Don't care if he stays or goes; would make a fair trade (if under contract) or pay somewhat above current salary to re-sign (if FA).
      20
    • 2: Don't want him on the team, really; would trade for a somewhat lesser return (if under contract) or sign at current or lower salary (if FA).

    • 1: Get this guy off of the team, no matter what it takes.

He did redeem himself following a disapointing season the previous year. One thing that became evident was that Jochen seems to really care unlike many of his team mates who seem to be going through the motions.I feel had we gone into the series with Boston with a healthy Hecht we would have had a different outcome on one or two of the games we lost.Based on how he was playing its entirely possible but we'll never know.

If you don't count last season, when he was probably playing hurt, he has been one of our best forwards. The Sabres win more games when he is in the line-up, and would have probably advanced past Boston had he not been hurt. Anyone who thinks this guy sucks needs to take a second look. It drives me crazy when he gets bashed on this board! What games are you watching? He led the team in +/-! That is the MOST IMPORTANT STAT! Good skater, great penalty killer. You never see him make a bad play, and he is our most responsible forward, maybe second to Grier. I just wish he was still on a line with Briere and Dumont...

Hecht is great to have on the team when he plays like he has every year except last year. Very underrated; does all of the little things that don't get much recognition. However, he's still paid more than his market value, by at least $1 million, probably more.

I have no problem with any of this, but you're pushing it a bit with the bolded statement.

If you're on the third or fourth line maybe, but that stat is pretty telling in Jochen's case. He's a pretty good winger. Everyone just needs to delete the memory of last year with him playing center. Someone else is to blame for that.

It never paints any picture of special teams play though. So to call it the most important stat is a bit extreme, I think.

When put in context, I've always thought it was the most important stat in hockey as well. You are right, though, it says nothing about special teams play. In Jochen's case, he's pretty good there, as well,.. well,.. at least on the PK. No Sabre excels at the PP.

Yeah, it's a pretty telling stat in Jochen's case, but it is going to be completely meaningless in the case of a power play specialist. Does that make that kind of player completely useless? Of course not.
