  1. Ahoy Maytees! Let's pretend you were a scurrilous cadger of the high seas. Let's say you laid your eyes upon some precious bounty on the Sabres team that no one was a'claiming. Firstly, how would'ger get yer hands on such a prize. Secondly, how would'ger cash in? Pirate Talk Only.
  2. Do we not have a general "off-topic from everything else" thread? Am I way out of bounds on this one? Is this crazy!? Speak now or forever be silent (is there a thread for this I can't remember from some reason?) I see you goofballs post everyday, but have nothing to connect to most usernames anything other than your strange posting styles, some strange facts, and some stranger avatars. Does anyone do anything interesting or study anything interesting? Lurkers...un-lurk.
  3. We can talk about terrorism and stray dogs here and save the other thread for hockey talk!
  4. http://www.nytimes.c...dies-at-46.html Sad. F*cking sad. :(
  5. It's been several years since I've been back to BFLO and I'm looking for a place with the best traditional Buffalo chicken wings somewhere along the way from the airport to Canada. I know of all the little holes in the wall on the outskirts but I'm not familiar any more with what is downtown...... Or in the area I mentioned. I have friends that are flying in and heading to Toronto and are looking for some real chicken wings. I plan to send them to Charlie's, but also need a wing place. I wanted to send them to East Aurora for wings but I don't think they're going to be able to get out that way. Any recommendations?
  6. Has anyone else seen this show on HBO? If freaking amazing and I can't believe it's not the #1 story worldwide. Doctors at the Philadelphia Children's Hospital are curing Leukemia. 90% of 39 pediatric patients treated are in full remission. Some as early as four weeks. It's an amazing story. Doctor's are using a modified version on the HIV virus to attack and kill cancer cells. This has to be the biggest medical breakthrough in my lifetime. If you have a chance to catch it, I suggest it.
  7. The snowbirds can report in, too, to make the northerners feel bad (or really awesome) about their weather. Incredibly, right now, it's -10.8 where I sit, balls trying desperately to nestle up to my appendix.
  8. Where do you put this on this board? Here, I guess, since it's a junk thread... RIP Spock...
  9. While this forum sure likes sitting on their computers or phones wasting time talking about food, beer, liquor and sometimes even sports, I can't imagine we're all maintaining a sedentary lifestyle. So let's have a thread about it. We can discuss what we do for exercise, our fitness goals, accomplishments, failures, questions, etc. As for myself I'm an active cyclist, beer league hockey player, and I run when the tendonitis in my knee isn't acting up. Thanks to my job and all of the running I've been doing I'm down to 208lbs this summer, which feels pretty good. I managed to set a new average pace record on my bike yesterday before the crankset blew up, and I'm almost down to a 9 minute mile for running. A far cry from my highschool days, but that was a long time ago. My goal for the rest of the summer is to get my 3 mile time under 25 minutes and upgrade the gearing on my old roadbike to allow me to ride a faster average speed, since I'm maxing out my old 53/14 gearing with my normal cadence. What do you guys and gals like to do?
  10. 33… Sigh… Have a good one.
  11. BUFFALO SABRES: SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR: http://www.formstack...6516-66wGXNK162 http://sabres.nhl.com/v2/ext/pdf/2013-SocialMediaCoordinator.pdf
  12. Which series is everybody watching? I've pretty much given up on everything on TV besides sports and the occasional NatGeo or similar educational program. Right now I'm starting season 3 of House of Cards, just finished season 2 of Orange is the New Black and just started season 2 of Peaky Blinders. Any recommendations to fill the time?
  13. I’ve used both AirBnb and VRBO before, and have often wondered…do both the owner and renter get hit with service fees? I am renting a place in Florida next winter for 7 weeks through AirBnb, and got hit with a $600 “service fee”…not counting cleaning fee or sales taxes. PS I quit using VRBO as their fees are even more ridiculous than AirBnb.
  14. According to something I just read on my phone, Dominik Hasek's daughter is in this year's Eurovision song contest with a band named after his nickname, "The Dominator." Is this for real?
  15. I’ve tried in the past, and just can’t become a fan. Bring on the paint drying wall. 😂
  16. I want to cry. I hate asking this. I live in Amherst, NY. A long time friend of my wife's just moved in with us to escape domestic abuse. She rescued their a 7 month old Newfoundland-Poodle mix named Sally who was getting abused too. But Sally was not well-trained (needs better house training and needs to settle down) and is too rambunctious for our cats, whom she terrifies by trying to play with them. I already love Sally dearly, but none of our friend, my wife, nor I can care for her properly. I work at home, but I don't have the time for her that she deserves. My wife works tough hours. Our friend works irregular hours. All three of us are in therapy. The dog needs consistency and attention that we are may never be able to give. If you or anyone you know and trust with dogs would like to take her, please let me know. I really don't want to do this, because I think once she gets well-trained, she will be a great dog. She is very friendly and affectionate. Alternatively, if you know someone who can help train her, that may work too. But like I said, I worry about the cats who are hiding. I have to cry.
  17. Dunno what to make of this. Adidas ending nhl ties altogether - teams and player sponsorship. Wonder who will be next?? Does anyone care? https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10043662-nhl-to-change-jersey-supplier-when-adidas-contract-ends-after-2023-24-season
  18. For all of you chess aficionados, you may have already heard about the cheating scandal where Magnus Carlsen accused Hans Niemann of cheating during an OTB match. https://www.wsj.com/articles/chess-cheating-hans-niemann-report-magnus-carlsen-11664911524
  19. Wanna see my new kitchen? It just came in today from IKEA. With some assembly it should look like this: Before I put in the cabinets though I need to remove the old ones, probably do some repair of the floorboards under the sink, extend the plank flooring I put in 4 years ago all the way to the walls, cut out the backsplash and put in new sheetrock because we're re-doing the backsplash too. Then... the cabinets. I didn't want to start the other stuff until the IKEA got here though.
  20. Anyone have friends or family who are helicopter parents(google it, if you don’t know what it means). I have a sibling with two kids in the 22-24 range, and both parents watch over them like they are 10. No surprise, they both still live at home while in school. Don’t get me wrong, you could have parents out there who don’t give a damn about their kids, but this is the other extreme. Know anyone like this??
  21. I have a confession. I own a #25 Grigorenko jersey that I bought way back in 2013 because I bought allllll the hype on him. I was young, I had my first real job and I wanted a new jersey. Fast forward to now and wtf am I supposed to do with a Grigorenko jersey? My question is does anyone know of a place that could replace the nameplate with Power keeping in mind the nameplate would have to be Navy not Royal due to the 2013 purchase of said jersey. Please let me know and sorry if this is too off topic.
  22. Creating a thread to discuss all things comedy. Upcoming shows, good acts, bad acts, new venues, etc. PS: I grabbed tickets to Bad Friends in Rochester in June with Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino. I can’t wait!
  23. We're less than a month until the draft. Final rankings lists are being locked. It's time for the 2022 edition of the all-important-useless-Star-Wars-reference/character-based-on-player-name draft rankings: 2022 edition. I didn't want to hijack a real thread with my nonsense, so head to this Sabrespace for the real-world discussion. Last year, the Sabres drafted #1 and took the best Star Wars name/reference on the board and probably ever: Uncle Owen Unlimited Power. (At least, until they draft this guy in a couple years.) Three firsts this draft so I'm splitting it into tiers of who could still be available at each selection. In some cases (Nemec/Jiricek) they're likely to already be off the board, but I'm including their names anyway. Note: The sequence of players is in order for groupings and humor (Miro after Yurov), it has no bearing on order of preference within the tiers. Let me know if you need another player researched. Maybe available at #28... Luca Del Bel Belluz C -- "I'm Luca Del Bel Belluz I'm here to rescue you." = You're who? = "I'm Luca Del Bel Belluz." Del is a common name on wookiepedia. Both Del and Bel are clone troopers. Altogether, the most unlikely clone trooper name in the galaxy. Snuggerud RW -- A Snaggletooth! So old-school Star Warsy it just feels right. Chesley RHD -- Moisture farmer. Howard LW -- Luke: What's a duck? Google it. Mesar RW -- Gungan. Agile, quick, jumps really high and flips. Meesa goin' score goals! Jagger Firkus RW -- Perfect Star Wars name. Not a JAG. Total smuggler/gambler/scum pilot of a trash-heap ship that has tons of speed and secret compartments. And you know I play a mean guitar mindharp. Rinzel RHD -- I'll be the first to say it: "Rinzel will be fine." A cantina proprietor. Deeper dive shows that rinzefruit is a type of produce. Hutson LHD -- Part of the crimelord syndicate... Soon you will learn to appreciate him. Whoa-ho-ho! Pickering LHD -- System in the Mid Rim. And another Uncle Owen as a bonus. Ostlund C -- Imperial officer. 2 Osteds are Imperial navy officers! Amazing. Alater and Wermis! https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Osted_Alater ; https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Osted_Wermis Hävelid RHD -- Imperial ship or Imperial (m)officer (moff) https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Havelon ; https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Haveland Beck C -- Rebel pilot's first name. There's totally a Beck Iceslider out there. Cruz Lucius -- C'mon! The parents named their kids Chaz and Cruz? Anyway, Rebel pilot. He yells something like "I've got the shot!" as the path opens to a direct lane to launch proton torpedoes at the ISD shield generator, followed quickly by "Oh no!" as a wave of TIE Interceptors appear and blast him. Cruz disappears in a fireball. Pretty much the most awesome role to have in a movie. Cool helmet. 1 or 2 lines of dialog. He's the Grizz Frix of this draft! A lifetime on the autograph circuit as the "Oh no! Guy".
  24. I will start with the one at the top of my list… Progressive - Flo and Co. What say you?
