  1. Wow, that was the first movie reference I thought of too. "C'mon, guys...."
  2. I almost never watch the new episodes when they air now because I thought the show was so cheesy in its first two seasons, but I watched last night to cure my Olympic boredom and I really liked it. The scenes with Carl wandering off alone were tense (especially the second one) and I liked the desperation when they were just rummaging through houses looking for food/safety while they were on the run. Even Michone's crazy nightmares were interesting. I actually thought last night's episode was more entertaining than the big shootout episode with the tank that preceded it. Also amazing that I never watch this show "live" (i.e. when it's a new episode) but I'm always caught up because AMC does so many marathons.
  3. I was reading up on college hockey this weekend since our excitement about college prospects is the highest it has been since about 2000 when the first rumblings about Ryan Miller were happening, and I came across this: http://collegehockeyinc.com/in-the-nhl The Sabres have used three 2nd round picks on college/college-bound players in the last two years (McCabe, Compher, and Hurley) and the early returns are pretty good.
  4. Murray was hired one month ago -- exactly one month ago today based on when this thread was started. And he hasn't made any moves yet. I love me some skepticism but there's absolutely no reason to be down on him yet. One month from today -- after the trade deadline -- we'll have some stuff to analyze. Four months after that -- after the draft -- we'll have more. But right now all we're doing is listening super hard to his interviews to identify secret messages and meanings behind what he's saying.
  5. Crazier things have happened. I just want people to understand that the Islanders are not going to defer so that they can give us the no.1 pick next season. If they defer, it's because they're going to do everything they can to get better next season. They're moving to Brooklyn and are willing to spend money. Watching them this year, they aren't *that* far off from being decent. And there's no guarantee it's Snow in charge again.
  6. II'm not saying he is. It's an example of what they could do. They're not going to sit back and let that 2015 pick make all our dreams come true. They're going to try to make it less valuable so that they have up less to us in that trade.
  7. One big reason to support wanting them to give us the 1st rounder in 2014 is that if they know their 2015 1st rounder isn't theirs, they're going to go all-out doing everything they can this summer not to hit rock bottom. They're not going to let themselves be in the bottom 5 again in 2015. They'll overspend on free agents or make crazy trades to help them immediately, but that management team does NOT want to give us the first round pick that ends up being McDavid or Eichel. All they have to do is keep their 2014 1st rounder, then overpay Ryan Miller as a free agent, and what we'll end up with is a 1st rounder in the 10-20 range for 2015.
  8. Kris Baker ‏@SabresProspects 7m JT Compher scores his 10th goal of the year to give Michigan a 1-0 lead on Penn State. Kris Baker ‏@SabresProspects 6m And then Compher gets a helper on the second Wolverines tally of the night. Two points in the first 10 mins. UM up 2-0 on Penn St. Save us, JT!
  9. Your next dentist appointment isn't tied to your job performance or career in any way. Understanding the assets that the team you're in charge of has seems fairly important. You'd think on Day 1 he'd want to know what draft picks we have or don't have for the upcoming drafts. I'm not blaming Murray for not finding out; I honestly think there's something goofy about this trade where neither the Sabres nor the Islanders are really sure based on how the trade was completed.
  10. It would seriously take hi 30 seconds to find out. Probably less since all he has to do is ask someone to find out for him and then they could report back whenever. So maybe 10-15 seconds to ask? Considering how valuable this asset is (theoretically), you think he'd ask. Even just out of curiosity. It's weird.
  11. Why wouldn't he take the 30 seconds to find out?
  12. It's amazing to me that there's so much confusion about this. How do they not know?
  13. Leave Moulson and Myers in, but put Enroth in net. Then let Miller play for the Amerks. I'd love to watch that game.
  14. We also traded Regehr, Leopold, and Sekera (half our defense...all for draft picks) and did nothing to replace them. Then we started this season with four teenagers on the roster. When is the last time the Sabres made a move to get better immediately? When literally every move is designed to pay off in the future, I take that to mean we're sacrificing the present. Being bad this year was part of that. And, FWIW, I would have moved Vanek and Miller in the summer too.
  15. "Like the Batman villain?" "If that helps you."
  16. Nope. No. Not only is this NOT the presumption of "many" on this board, I don't think anyone on this board has ever said it's the "only" way. And there has never been anything controversial about teams rebuilding. It's an inter temporal trade. You trade good now (and accept bad) to be better later. Almost everyone does this at some point.
  17. Kris Baker ‏@SabresProspects 8m Jake McCabe gets the GWG as Wisconsin ends Minnesota's 14-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win. McCabe: 25gp 7-12-19 Hope.
  18. Ever? What do you call it when a GM trades a veteran for a draft pick or a prospect that isn't close? They're actively making their team worse. So should that not be allowed? What about trading a pending UFA at the deadline? Again, you're making your team worse. A GM can oversee a rebuilding year. Call it whatever you want, but that's trying to be bad now so that you can be good in the future.
  19. The plan was to bottom out. He enacted that plan with his boss's blessing. Then they canned him anyway. Plus, if the Sabres become contenders again even somewhat on the strength of our last two drafts, it'll be hard not to give Regier some credit (not to mention the extra picks we have locked and loaded for the next couple drafts too). I'm glad Darcy's gone and I don't want him back but it's tough to criticize him for having a bad team in a year where they were trying to have a bad team. Criticize him for having bad teams in years where they were trying to have a good team.
  20. OK, Tim Murray, this is it. This is the absolute highest value Drew Stafford is ever going to have again as a Buffalo Sabre. Please trade him immediately.
  21. He played really well tonight....and was completely hung out to dry by his "defense." McBain is astonishingly terrible. Sabres fans are going to need some time to Tank after this season too.
  22. Church and Skate really needs to be a screen name here.
