  1. Supposedly the Sabres asked for a prospect *and* a pick. I would be happy with just one pick for the guy since he has no value to us.
  2. Being sstingy with Halak has probably already blown up in our face. And we should hang on to Stewart because even though we know one Drew Stafford on the team is bad, obviously two Drew Staffords is good. Like two wrongs making a right.
  3. Sounds terrible. Talk to other teams.
  4. Everyone who scoffs at the notion of the Sabres acquiring or needing additional picks in Round 3 or later should consider that the Sabres had THREE second round picks in 2013 (Compher, Hurley, Bailey) and they're all being outplayed this year by the guy we drafted in Round 3 (Nick Baptiste). And our fifth round pick (Gustav Possler) was off to a tremendous start as well before his injury. Draft picks are lotto tickets. You want as many as you can get. Hopefully we can still get *something* for Halak.
  5. We could pair him with Chris Stewart. I hear that's worked before.
  6. FWIW, Anaheim has two 1st round picks this year -- theirs and the one they got from Ottawa. So if we were looking to make a trade with a contender *and* still get a draft pick ~10th overall, they're the guys we want to talk to. And if they're absolutely opposed to moving that pick, they're probably more open to moving their own first than some other teams might be.
  7. This is funny every single time.
  8. Did we get value for Miller? We traded Miller and Ott for Chris Stewart (a slightly bigger Drew Stafford clone that Blues fans didn't mind unloading), Halak (basically nothing if we can't trade him before he walks as a UFA), a 2015 1st round pick, a 2016 3rd round pick, and a Quebec League prospect who hasn't been 100% in over a year. Even if the Blue make the WCF, we get their 2014 1st but have to hand over the Wild's 2nd round pick and our 3rd round pick. Sabres have a lot of "actual trades" make in the next ~20 hours before we can feel good about what they've done.
  9. Doubt we're getting Coyle for a rental goalie. Not sure what we could add.
  10. If we're not getting Toffoli, we should be talking to other teams. LA isn't stacked with young prospects we should want.
  11. This is an awesome explanation. Well done. :D
  12. So you're saying the Sabres and Blues BOTH hit a low point on Friday night?
  13. FWIW, the Sabres still only have one first round pick this year.
  14. Doesn't mean a whole lot. Ott and Miller were schedule to play at this point on Friday. And since there's a 99% chance we're moving him by 3pm ET on Wednesday, I wouldn't be shocked if we did it today.
  15. He's on his way to St. Louis. Ehrhoff too. Basically everyone.
  16. It think it helps clarify things if you actually take a look at a picture of Joe Battista
  17. It'd be funny if the Ehrhoff to Dallas trade happened an hour before game time.
  18. Article from HF, about our Top 20 Prospects: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/104413/buffalo-sabres-feature-a-strong-collection-of-talent-in-spring-top-20/#more-104413 This note on Carrier is actually good news if you're wondering about his numbers from this year: Hopefully he's still not quite 100% and will be able to take it up a notch next year. I'm not really sure I agree with how they ranked everyone, but it's worth a look.
  19. The stuff in bold is the reason I don't think the trade is a mess. I don't want to build around Stewart or Halak and, yes, we do still need more young assets. I also don't think Tim Murray is going to trade Chris Stewart (or anyone) to Ottawa as a "favour to Uncle Brian." This is a man trying to make a name for himself in his first GM role. If he made any type of shady trade with his former team, he'd be radioactive for the rest of his career. If he makes any trade with Ottawa, he'd probably want to be extra tough on them to prove a point.
  20. Wow, I'm interested. The Stars have some non-Nichushkin prospects that I like.
  21. LastPommerFan has a wife???
  22. After watching the Caps-Flyers this afternoon, I'm wondering if both of those teams would want to give the Sabres a call about Halak too.
