  1. So my son recently completed a masters degree in a field that the company I work for employs. I work for a Very Big Corporation. In his job hunt he came across an opening at my company and asked me about it. It turns out it's in my department. I purposely didn't want to steer him toward my company; if he got here I wanted it to be his decision. But now that he's interested I'll do what I can to get him in. I'm acquainted with the hiring manager so I forwarded his resume to her. So many applications come in and so many get screened out that it helps to focus the recruiter/hiring manager on a particular candidate. I don't know if they'll pick him or not, but if they do hire him he'll be sitting about a 30 second walk from my desk. Seems weird.
  2. Meanwhile, in my manager's yard, 100 mph winds: 1 200-year-old pecan tree: 0
  3. But the Panthers are just the kind of team that can exploit a team that presses too hard.
  4. All. Of. It. All the money.
  5. What a bizarre world it is that we're rooting for The Rat.
  6. Lots of rain last night. There was a tornado less than ten miles from here; we supposedly saw 60-80 mph winds per weather reports. Underpasses are flooding. At least we didn't get the predicted baseball sized hail.
  7. Sure it's ice. It's just a phase it's going through. 😉
  8. When you crack up Mel Brooks you know you're funny.
  9. Actually, yes. Ice skates glide on a trail of liquid water. The concentrated force of the blade on the ice creates enough localized pressure to temporarily melt the ice into water, and it acts as a lubricant that the skater glides on.
  10. On the other hand, he's unemployed right now in a field that has exactly 32 such positions.
  11. Don't put that on Beane though... that was 123% McDermott.
  12. The Reino trade "happened" during Kevyn's first summer when he extended Reinhart one single year instead of locking him up long term. That was the signal, even before the Eichel madness, that he was blowing it all up.
  13. A boss who lets you do your job is what you want.
  14. I was referring to Grapevine, Texas, where he lived since age 9.
  15. I guess I need to dig up the one he posted in Spanish then?
  16. Yeah... he's from this area. Does a lot of good stuff.
  17. Great show. The beauty of this band is that it's not just Alison Krauss singing with a backup band. Union Station has some top flight multi-instrumentalists who all stole the show at some point. And Alison doesn't always sing lead. Male lead is sung by Russell Moore, who is actually new with the band, replacing Dan Tyminski. They sound very similar to each other; Tyminski sang Man of Constant Sorrow for the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack, to give you an idea of this voice. And Jerry Douglas plays dobro; amazing talent. And on some songs they all sang harmony and it's hard to believe how tight they were live. I know they are country/bluegrass, but some of their song hit as hard as any heavy metal.
