He could work anywhere in hockey writing, and probably anywhere in sports writing. He's got a future.

You're welcome. Do keep in mind that NHLN may opt to carry the Pittsburgh feed, which is awful. -
Sabres claim Jordan Nolan off waivers
IKnowPhysics replied to SabresFanInRochester's topic in The Aud Club
I mean, they gotta be looking at wingers in camp, and either they just don't see anyone they want to put in a 3rd/4th role in Buffalo or they want to keep the young good guys in Rochester to develop. -

Game is scheduled to be live on NHL Network (7pm EST). So the game should be findable by both conventional and unconventional means. -
Sabres claim Jordan Nolan off waivers

His work ethic, physicality, and locker room leadership better be off the charts, because Nolan brings nothing to either side of the puck. He will not contribute offensively and his player usage charts expose him as a struggling, sheltered liability. He averaged only 10:51/GP when he got a sniff at the roster and was 2nd last in shifts/GP. He doesn't kill penalties, he's not on the powerplay. I know hits is a stat, but he wasn't in the top half of the Kings in hits/GP. On paper, he performs a similar role to Deslauriers, but 2 years older and without nuclear fighting. It makes me think that either: a) Deslauriers' knee injury from last year is making the GM want a replacement option/depth for Deslauriers' role or b) JBot wants a fourth liner speedier than Deslauriers that is fast enough to be wedged into 2nd/3rd line if several injuries occur. Because if it's not one of those two, I just don't see it. It looks like a favor to somebody or leftovers from a three year old scouting report. -

I don't think Friedman is suggesting what he says is without consequence. I think he was patronizing a player by telling the player they've got it good and to rise above, in order to maintain a congenial professional relationship with that player without promising that he would break his own sense of objectivity.

Let me rephrase: If he's found to be injured, the league's in on the scam. If he's found to healthy, nothing will result because Leafs, and the league's in on the scam.
-
Bettman's gonna make him turn his head and cough. If he's found to be healthy, this could get a little interesting.

That summer sucked. Sabres eventually settled that grievance (ie, paid Numminen) and re-signed him to another contract, but definitely not the organization's proudest moment, even if it was (maybe) a defensible technical interpretation of the CBA at the time.

Plus the Sabres production team and equipment has to operate out of the truck parked in back, which I think is leased. If they have fixed production facilities at the Cap, then this becomes a no-brainer.

I'd take that over Milbury or JR any night of the week. The guy's knowledgeable.

Marco Polondella Matt Tennyson Vojtech Budjik Zack Yikel Two of these names are real and are on the roster. One of them is the correct answer. -
You gotta believe me: he's far from the worst in the league. There is much worse. So much worse. We're spoiled with Rick. He's dynamic, exciting, knowledgeable, lovable, and even for a homer, professional. He's a Hall of Famer. I know Dan isn't exciting, especially compared to RIck, but he's far from the worst. A year ago, somebody somewhere tabulated the worst/best. Buffalo somehow only ended up 10th (we're easily top five). Paul Stiegerwald, everybody: Calling the wrong score: Hobey Baker death in joke in poor taste: Bitching about the Islanders: Stiegerwald was pulled from the booth this year. And that's just one guy in Pittsburgh. Fox Sports PTDucks' broadcast is dogshit from top to bottom. Bruins' Jack Edwards is such a homer it makes my ears (and referees' ears) bleed. Mike I-Fall-Asleep-When-The-Opponent-Scores Haynes still has a job in Colorado. The list goes on and on. We have it really good in Buffalo.

Jack Eichel Contract Extension: Talks Occuring
IKnowPhysics replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
I believe that Botterill would consider holding off on announcing Jack's contract as to simultaneously announce him as the captain of the team, which would be more appropriate to announce after camp. -
Support the team and players by buying and wearing gear if you want. TONS of fans of all ages wear player jerseys for all sorts of reasons. Wear it proudly if that's how you feel. You should be comfy about how you celebrate your team, what you wear, and why. And hell, if you want it as a collectible only, you can always frame it, maybe get it signed. I know of an extremely tiny fraction of fans that say "I won't wear another man's name on my back," but in general, those guys are weirder than the rest of us. Other fans I know don't have a favorite player or don't want to shell out cash for a jersey of a player they think might not be around in a few years, but they will wear a blank to support the team. Still a minority though. Once the contract is signed and the captains are announced, I'm gonna get an Adidas Authentic Eichel. It'll probably be the most I've ever spent on Sabres anything. I'll wear it and love it like I have all of my other jerseys. I have jerseys that I'll love for the rest of my life, like my Wisconsin jersey, which I wore to every game when I went to school there and got signed by the seven key members of the team (Joe Pavelski, Brian Elliot, et al) before they won the 2006 NCAA Championship. After the Sabres win this whole thing, you might still be wearing that jersey in 20 years with some pretty fond memories.

Everything Sabres Uniform Related - Royal Blue Please!
IKnowPhysics replied to CallawaySabres's topic in The Aud Club
FWIW, Authentic Adidas jerseys are now available on shop.NHL.com. MSRP $250 with name and number. $180 without. I think that's cheaper than the Reebok MSRP with name and number (thought Reebok was MSRP $250 not incl name and number), but I'm not sure. If you're in the market and depending on the player, remember to wait until the captains and alternates are announced (usually 1st week of October). -
Jack Eichel Contract Extension: Talks Occuring

I think he's shown us a lot, but the team hasn't proven anything. I also think the organization has shown us a lot, but the team hasn't proven anything. -
Oh, I've been out of grad school for years. And it might be fair to say that if I wasn't hooked on the good stuff before going to Scotland this year (I was), I definitely am now. I was just curious how you'd rank the three, regular Jack of course being at the bottom, but I got it from context: SB >> GJ > Jack. I support this thread broadening into recommended whisky mixed recipes.
