The contact was clean, as far as heads/elbows/facing the boards, etc. And while Wilson didn't take 3+ steps or jump into the hit, it was suitable for a charging call. A real contributing factor to the damage here, was that Schenn was in the "dead zone" (between three from the boards and six feet from the boards). If he's anywhere else, there's a good chance his noggin and spine don't get crunched. That isn't to fault Schenn at all, of course, because the game is played there, especially immediately after winning possession along the boards. The speed of the hit combined with the location make this a dangerous play. The question is whether Wilson had intent to inure. Intent to injure is the boundary between a major charging call and a match penalty charging call. Is it the onus of the hitter to not make shoulder-to-shoulder hits with speed in the dead zone?

If the Sabres' only rostered goaltender was Patrick Lalime, it would've been smart to take the best goalie in the draft. But as the season goes, "Fucale" develops and gets injured, thereby forcing us to not only play Lalime, who gets injured too, but Ty Conklin and Bob Essensa. Then Fucale healthies up, plays out the back end of the season, and develops a little more. We had a major need at the draft, we addressed it, we didn't disastrously over-pick a QB at #8, and we got value in return for trading down. In comparison to the rest of the recent Bills drafts, that's remarkable.

According to NHL point equivalency methods, Connor McDavid, who already has 45 points in 27 games for Erie, could be a 40 point player in the NHL. At age 16. I think we should be prepared to do anything to select this kid.

Baptiste would have something like 16G, 16A on 82 games. Possler, because he's playing in the much stronger SEL, would have something like 28G, 17A, but his sample size is way small; I don't trust that at all. McCabe's equivalency is at about 33 points so far this season. Armia has taken a step back a little bit adjusting to Rochester in the nine games he has so far, down from 44 NHLe points to 15 NHLe points in this young AHL season. But he's got time to work it out. And I think he's been injured. JGL slipped from 28 NHLe points in the QMJHL to 5 NHLe points last year in Rochester, but he's improved his way back up to 12 NHLe points so far this season. Kevin Sundher's slowly improving his offensive game, up to 15 NHLe points from 12 NHLe points last year. Eric Locke's putting up big number again for Saginaw, looking at 35 NHLe points again. ==== So for example, if Armia scores 100pts in 149 games in SM-Liiga, you might expect he should score 0.54 times as much in the NHL, or 0.54*100/149*82 = 29.7 points.
