  1. Carp called it in 2011. http://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/19923-mark-jakubowski/#entry304748
  2. Can't speak well enough of credit unions. Why use banking services at an institution whose purpose is to make a profit off of you if not-for-profit institutions with the same/similar services are available? The interest rates on loans and credit cards are worth it alone, in addition to free/low fee ATM fees.
  3. That's a quite a lot of money, but he's pretty good. That also seems to ###### on the article that said he was looking for $8.5M in arbitration.
  4. I thought there was no way he wasn't talking about Hitchcock and then I read the dead part.
  5. Still on the Sabres' front office list.
  6. Wiki says he was named the Ron LaPointe Coach of the Year in the Q in '09. Coach of the year in the Q sounds alright. It'd be good to have someone that can coach young guys.
  7. One of the best pirate scenes.
  8. Toronto group can't match Pegula's first bid on Bills: Sources http://www.torontosun.com/2014/07/30/toronto-group-cant-match-pegulas-first-bid-on-bills-sources Figures that Pegula bid $1.3B Bon Jovi could only gather up to $1.0B and would be stretched to go higher Trump speculated to have bid anywhere from $0.7-1.1B.
  9. Haha, from reddit: http://i.imgur.com/hnr07YF.jpg
  10. That and, as always, money ruins everything. Investors want to back large budget films that have a guaranteed return. Remakes are almost proven sources of return. Not to mention that by exposing the content to an entirely new generation of movie-watchers, they can sell merchandising, toys, and television rights to the new generation. Just like fashion and music, films will experience a 20-25 year cycle. Expect to see each and every Marvel film made this decade remade by the 2040s.
  11. Recap: Buffalo Bills franchise auction transcript: Bon Jovi: ###### Buffalo, I'll move the team to Toronto. I bid $1.2 Billion. Andre Reed: "Man, ###### Bon Jovi." (actual quote) Terry Pegula: Yeah, ###### Bon Jovi! I bid $1.3 Billion! Donald Trump: ###### this, I was only in it for the profit.
  12. I think any prospect that attended the Andre Reed Motivational Seminar would turn out alright. "You ain't Johnny Hockey. You're Johnny Rookie Bitch."
  13. He was an assistant coach for the Penguins from 1993-97 and the Avalanche from 1998-02. In his four years in Colorado, he won the Cup once and went to game seven of the conference finals the other three times. According to wiki, he receives praise from well-respected players- he was Steve Yzerman's favorite player and Y wore #19 in honor of him. Admittedly, his time as the Rangers' head coach was vexed. He tried to implement the trap on a team that wasn't well-suited for it, which gathered the ire of Rangers fans and media, in addition to being lambasted by local Islanders fan as a traitor for taking the NYR job.
  14. Agreed. If I could get anyone to be an assistant coach, it'd be Nicklas Lidstrom. He was hired by the Red Wings as scout following his retirement, but would later leave that job. When Babcock offered him the assistant coaching job, he didn't want it (Babcock would go on to hire Tony Granato).
  15. He was also Wayne Gretzky before Wayne Gretzky was Wayne Gretzky:
  16. Outstanding hiring. I think this is what having Craig Patrick on board buys you. Patrick and Trottier were together from '93 to '97. http://blogs.buffalo...-assistant.html Apparently, Nolan was high on Trottier from the start:
  17. THIS WHOLE THREAD BE PARROT ######.
  18. Well, if they hired him, clearly we should have kept him as an assistant coach.
  19. I thought for sure that they'd mention how it ripped off the Electric logo:
  20. BLARGH. My bad. I hadn't realized there's two Dineens, let alone expected them to be hired to similar-ish positions one day apart. I partly blame TSN's abbreviated headlining.
  21. Agreed. I nonchalantly stopped watch a couple years ago. This confirms my confidence that I haven't missed much. I am, however, a proponent of science outreach and I think they've got a good mission. I'm by no means annoyed that they're still on the air.
  22. Goalies (sorry, didn't list them above): Jimmy Howard (Syracuse) Connor Knapp (Livingston County) Ray Emery (Hamilton)
  23. NHLers worth a ###### that played this year with birthplaces listed in NYS north of Westchester: LW: Erik Cole Marcus Foligno Nick Foligno Tim Kennedy RW: Kane Callahan Brown Gionta Stempniak Jeremy Morin Kaleta D: Bogosian (Massena) Lashoff Notables from Southern-most Ontario: LW: Ryan Sheahan (St Catherines) Dan Paille (Welland) Cal Clutterbuck (Welland) RW: Nathan Horton (Welland) D: Dan Girardi (Welland) Ryan Ellis (Hamilton)
  24. He finished second on the team in points (43) behind Hodgson (44). On a team full of clowns, that's respectable. Our best winger, Matty Mo, was on pace for 54 points. Our next best winger, Stafford, finished with 34. According to usage charts, Ennis was able to achieve this while playing against the toughest opponents (along with Stafford and Foligno). I'm not sure it's possible, but I'm comfortable saying that this team would've somehow looked a lot worse this past year without Ennis. On a good team, Ennis is a 2nd line forward. Maybe, hopefully, we'll return to the days of '05-'07, when we had three legitimate scoring lines, and then Ennis will fit nicely on third line (not unlike how Derek Roy used to). That'd be fun.
