  1. Huh. http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.1899742 Pretty scheisty. Wang offers to sell the team at an agreed price, sees the Ballmer buy the Clippers for $2B, and then jacks up the price on his franchise. Persisting report of the Islanders being sold to an "unknown group."
  2. Montreal press is trying to spin up a front office controversy on the basis of meddling. The article linked refutes that notion (rather reasonably, I think).
  3. Court case moving forward concerning the anti-competitiveness of the NHL broadcast rights. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=459001 Plaintiffs assert it's ###### to pay for Center Ice to get all teams when all you want watch is one team. They also assert ###### on paying for Center Ice and having local games blacked out, requiring purchase of other channels. Suit has potential to go class-action, which would include every customer of Center Ice. Among other evidence, the case points to evidence in 1984 documents written by former league president John Zeigler, at the time defending how the league had loosely managed its rights, stating that limiting broadcast rights would be anti-competitive. The league would soon change their methods in 1985, due to pressure from a potential ESPN contract, to manage their rights a way that is substantially similar to what Zeigler had described as anti-competitive. It's early in the process, so there's nothing much to see here yet. Also of note: NHL is defending this type of lawsuit side by side with the MLB, which faces almost identical allegations.
  4. That's the preferred acronym. We're going to trade players at the deadline for picks or prospects. The lack of roster, not the lack of effort, will make us bad enough to lose our way to Connor McEichel. We're not buyers at the deadline unless there's a long-term return that legitimately contributes to the elite team. Stewart, Stafford, Mitchell, and Meszaros are ripe for deadline deals to acquire 2015 picks or 2010-14 prospects.
  5. First round loss or just barely not making the playoffs (again) VS Connor McEichel No brainer for me, man.

  8. Sabres aren't famous for terrible uniforms, but the terrible Sabres uniforms are famous.
  9. It used to be two, but then Jay Feaster got fired.
  10. I don't think Devine leaves right away or this coming summer unless he gets pushed out or gets a title demotion, and I don't think that'll happen. Presume Devine has his own reasonable career interests. He either wants to keep his job or he wants to get promoted. So he either stays or he gets promoted to GM of another team. What are Devine's best chances to get hired? AFTER the demonstrated rebuild occurs, not during or immediately after the big draft. His resume will be most more impressive when the rebuild-by-draft that he has a large hand in is completed and shows signs of working, and he gets credit for immense drafting prowess. Not before.
  11. Carp called it in 2011. http://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/19923-mark-jakubowski/#entry304748
  12. Can't speak well enough of credit unions. Why use banking services at an institution whose purpose is to make a profit off of you if not-for-profit institutions with the same/similar services are available? The interest rates on loans and credit cards are worth it alone, in addition to free/low fee ATM fees.
  13. That's a quite a lot of money, but he's pretty good. That also seems to ###### on the article that said he was looking for $8.5M in arbitration.
  14. I thought there was no way he wasn't talking about Hitchcock and then I read the dead part.
  15. Still on the Sabres' front office list.
  16. Wiki says he was named the Ron LaPointe Coach of the Year in the Q in '09. Coach of the year in the Q sounds alright. It'd be good to have someone that can coach young guys.
  17. One of the best pirate scenes.
  18. Toronto group can't match Pegula's first bid on Bills: Sources http://www.torontosun.com/2014/07/30/toronto-group-cant-match-pegulas-first-bid-on-bills-sources Figures that Pegula bid $1.3B Bon Jovi could only gather up to $1.0B and would be stretched to go higher Trump speculated to have bid anywhere from $0.7-1.1B.

  20. That and, as always, money ruins everything. Investors want to back large budget films that have a guaranteed return. Remakes are almost proven sources of return. Not to mention that by exposing the content to an entirely new generation of movie-watchers, they can sell merchandising, toys, and television rights to the new generation. Just like fashion and music, films will experience a 20-25 year cycle. Expect to see each and every Marvel film made this decade remade by the 2040s.
  21. Recap: Buffalo Bills franchise auction transcript: Bon Jovi: ###### Buffalo, I'll move the team to Toronto. I bid $1.2 Billion. Andre Reed: "Man, ###### Bon Jovi." (actual quote) Terry Pegula: Yeah, ###### Bon Jovi! I bid $1.3 Billion! Donald Trump: ###### this, I was only in it for the profit.
  22. I think any prospect that attended the Andre Reed Motivational Seminar would turn out alright. "You ain't Johnny Hockey. You're Johnny Rookie Bitch."
