Devo was formed in 1973, which was several years before the Sex Pistols became a phenomenon. The band recorded this song in or around 1974. It still sounds like it came from outer space, or somewhere not of this earth. Taste in music is inherently subjective, so there's little use in debating preferences. But, as for music that came from the punk scene, if you can't still spin London Calling (not really punk, I admit) and feel moved or inspired, I'm not sure what to say.

Hey - the threads were merged? Respect.

Getting caught up here. I can't believe we drafted the next Paul Gaustad with the 7th overall pick.

Good post. This especially had me nodding in agreement.

Distinguishing between entitled and qualified is fair. My point is really along the lines of “whaddayagonnado?” Almost like, in life, you don’t have to be qualified if you’re entitled. And hey - we’re back to my assessing life as it is (a posteriori) and your assessing life as it should be (a priori). The return of PAngloss! Also, your Southwest airlines analogy is too granular. More apt would be Terry sharpening skates or some such. Come to think of it .....

I guess I understand the posters who wanted a swing for the fences pick. But lol at folks panning the pick of a player who’s 4 or so years from the NHL.

We've been around this carousel a few times, @PASabreFan. Do you find the conversation to be an interesting one? I mostly don't. Would either of Terry or Kim Pegula been hired into the positions they occupy had they not bought and owned the team? Most assuredly not. But they did buy the team. That is the ultimate and final "qualification" for any position within an organization that's been thusly purchased. I think I find it more interesting to talk about whether RaKru was properly qualified to serve as an NHL HC.

you've a mind like a steel trap.

Didn’t the Sabres use Jump Around as a win song for a while?

This isn’t even half a loaf. I want the kooky, hijacked, derailed, personal agenda fueled thread reopened.

Sabres RFAs Receiving Qualifying Offers from the Team

I can get behind this, I guess. Thing is: The team stunk last season. So I'm knee jerkedly skeptical of rolling the same 4th line. But maybe they were not the (a) problem. Maybe it is lines 2 and 3 that need the revamp. -
I DON'T BELIEVE YOU. I demand a revival of the 2019 offseason thread.

JESUS, man. -
Sabre Dance is arguably the coolest association between a song and a pro sports team, ever. I think the goal song needs to be more "of the moment," though.

Hmm. Middle 6, not bottom 6. So, are we good with a 4th line of E-Rod, Zemgus, and Larsson? -
To each their own. I enjoy threads that are open-ended and free-flowing -- especially when the thread's topic is general in nature. Those threads find their level again, in time. They always do. Unless they're locked first.

This thread’s premature. Let’s get this merged with the other 2019 offseason thread (and get that one unlocked (sheesh)).

I appreciate the analytical love for Larsson from @Randall Flagg and others. The guy can defend like a mother-f. But isn’t the consensus that the Sabres need more offence from their bottom 6? Larsson had a d-zone start rate over 80% last season (or so I heard). Is that why he had virtually no O-production? -
My complaint on the stationary bike this morning: The catch all thread - “around the NHL” - is closed for reasons.

And if a frog had wings it wouldn’t bust its a.ss a ‘hoppin. Also, if you read the excerpt upthread, you may have noted that she’s from Korea but likely of Japanese descent. Your objection to her on this diversity council is perplexing. They needed an owner to chair it. Who were they gonna pick? Jacobs? Melnyk? C’mon.

I’d say “touche’,” but that was more of a duck. You’re accusing others of being obtuse, but you are not (presently being) forthright about the basis/bases of your misgivings on this subject. On questioning, you have been in the past.

Um, you're welcome (?). There's no mystery here. I've come some distance in mistrusting and/or being skeptical of the Pegulas, but this stuff is still a bridge too far. Pish posh. Please focus instead on how she pushed up her modest breasts while waiting tables at that southern tier restaurant and thereby caught the eye of a middle-aged oil and gas speculator.

^ Good content on the Hayes signing. I agree with those who are saying, in essence, "the money is a function of the position he will (be expected to) occupy on a team's roster." Maybe as much as anything, this reflects the extent to which an NHL team wants/needs a 2C to be on a cost-controlled contract. Muh-muh-muh-Mittlestadt?
