Evander Kane : Two crime reports filed in nightclub incident
pi2000 replied to Hoss's topic in The Aud Club
My boys are 10 and 12. As a parent it's difficult to explain what's going on with these guys in terms they'll understand while keeping it PG. The E. Kane stuff my kids don't care about, but the P. Kane stuff from last summer was a challenge to explain to them. -
That's the million dollar question.

Over analysis is an offseason ritual. Need to keep this thread moving forward.

What I think happened is Vesey never really wanted to play for NSH, but since they were the only team who could sign him, he lead them on as if he was going to sign. At some point after the trade deadline he decided he was just gonna wait it out until mid Aug. So to save face, his agent came out and made up some story about what they told NSH back before the deadline. Instead of pointing fingers and starting a he said she said issue, Vesey should've just been honest about having a change of heart. I think it's dirty pool, and now talk about second contact and such before he even plays a game is a bad sign of his character and what he values IMO.

There's a difference between spinning something and flat out lying... well maybe unless you're a politician. And it's not just Poile, it's Fenton and his staff. They're an upstanding franchise who is know to take very good care of it's players. I find it extremely difficult to believe he's lying about it. They're lack of activity at the deadline also lends to thr idea Vesey was coming on board. If they knew he wasn't gonna sign they would've traded him at the deadlibe for playoff assets. It doesn't add up, where there's smoke, there's fire.
-
Who would you trust? An established well respect GM who's leading a successful franchise? Or a 23 year old kid who has never played a game in the league? Poile has no history of jerking around players, far from it. Vesey has no history.
-
Well if his behavior is any sign of things to come, what happens when he's in positon where he's asked to make a personal sacrifice for the betterment of the team? Shot blocking, killing penalties, playing a system, backchecking, etc... if his primary concern is staying healthy so he can put up numbers for his next contract he'll quickly get a reputation as a soft player unwilling to do the dirty work which makes a team successful.
-
He should've signed with NSH. He flat out lied to them about his intentions. They're a contender, why didnt he sign with a winning successful franchise about to go on a long playoff run with a good chance at winning a Cup? It sounds like he cares very little about winning and very much so about personal financial gain. I wouldn't want that attitude permeating throughout my locker room.

Once in a lifetime? He'll bee an UFA several times in his careeer. UFA status is a privilege in the national league. I do place some blame on the NHL for this. It seems the fair thing to do would've been to place him back in the draft after he completed his college career.

It's like you go to a buffet and somebody there offers you a cheeseburger before the buffet officially opens. You might love cheeseburgers, but you'd still wait a few minutes for the buffett to open up so you can see what else they have. And you might end up having a cheeseburger anyway. That said, he would've been better off not sayung anything about top 6, looking at rosters and see and contract numbers. It makes him look like a spoiled little kid who cries when he doesnt get exactly what he wants for Christmas. It's a bad reflection of his character.

I see your point. I just don't think hes damaged goods at 26. If he averages 20g a year for thr next 10, he still gets over 500g. Chances are he finishes close to 600g, which puts him top 20 of all time.
-
He's 26 and already has over 300g and over 500 points. He'll be a first ballot hall of famer no question. Vesey is only 3 years younger with 0 career NHL minutes.
-
Because it's a game, a game that kids play, so they naturally look up to them.
-
Stamkos is a future hall of famer who earned that privilege, Vesey hasn't even sniffed Stamkos's jockstrap.

Ice Girls, The Sabrette's? Swim Suit night bring back the Earl of Bud increase width of ice surface by 5ft to 200x90 fly Jimmy Vesey in on my private jet just to tell him to stop being a whiny little bitch

Yeah, I live in Orange County. Played Oak Creek today, The Crossings tomorrow, have a friend from Buffalo who lives in Phoenix now in town visiting. I'll tell your Dad you say Hi if I see him!

There were no plans to stream it last year until fans complained enough they decided to stream it the day before or day of, iirc. I'll be playing golf down in Carlsbad tomorrow so I'll miss it, hopefully it's available ondemand as well.

That wouldn't be very professional for him to say because it makes GMTM and the Sabres look bad for travelling all the way over there only to waste their time. Fish needs to maintain a positive working relationship with the Sabres because of Eichel and whatever other clients he may have in their system. He needs to acknowledge to the league (other teams) that they were happy they came to visit Jimmy and give a presentation, so when Aug 15 rolls around they can simply open their doors for business and start lining them up at the door. I'm not saying he's lying, maybe they really were impressed with the presentation and will talk contract down the line here soon, but I really didn't expect him to say anything other then that they enjoyed the presentation, it was productive and informative visit and we'll consider our options.

Sure, fair question. I see plenty of positives, I agree with pretty much all of TMs moves. I predicted Eichel would have a better rookie year than McDavid because of his size and strength. I thought the tank strategy was a positive and the right way to rebuild the team. I like Lehner, I think he's the answer in net, he has the right demeanor and physical talent to have long term success. I like the draft picks over the past few seasons. I can't really name one player I wish they would replace besides maybe Gorges who I think is much too slow footed for the modern NHL. I like Bylsma, I think he's the right coach for this team at this time. Don't get me wrong, I like Risto, I really do. He has upside, but he's only been in the league for 2 full seasons and is not on the same level as an Ekblad or Krug, I think most on here overvalue him at this stage in his career... maybe I'm still a bit jaded from the Tyler Myers contract... a guy who won the Calder, Risto wasn't even nominated. Giving a guy financial security with an 8 year deal at the tender age of 21 can easily derail his career. A bridge deal keeps him motivated and developing and gives him a chance to earn a larger contract in the long run.

Not to throw a wet blanket on this, but Fish's quote means nothing. It's the only thing he can say. Behind closed doors Fish/Vesey could be very disappointed and have no interest, but he's not going to come out and say that to the media when his other client, Eichel, is the darling of the city.
-
Well, it will be interesting to see what Barrie is awarded in arbitration (if they get that far) vs what Risto gets from GMTM.
-
ha, well, I actually forecast Matthews to do well early in his career, I expect him to be in the mix for the Calder.

Have you watched Barrie play? His skating, puck handling, and offensive awareness are light years ahead of Risto. Risto's point totals are a result of being a 1A in a lackluster lineup. With a Fowler in the lineup, or even an improved McCabe, I expect Risto's offensive production to drop. GMTM said it himself, he's still looking for a PP QB on the backend.
