You really believe that? You don't think Eller will think twice about taunting the Bruin bench (or any team bench) the next time he scores in blowout? A lot of why the code is there is because you're working (playing) in front of tens of thousands of people. Imagine you're sitting at your cube, or wherever you work, with 20,000 people staring at you being critical of everything you do... then your co-worker comes by and starts taunting you in front of everybody just because you're having a bad day at work. That's unnecessary and classless, and while not against the rules, it needs to be policed and kept in check.

Take NHL hockey out of the equation... you don't have a right to punch a guy in the face (that's assault) just because he's taunting you. You can walk away, yell back, call him names, whatever. That said, we're talking NHL hockey... where fighting is part of the game and it hasn't been completely outlawed because there's still a place for it... and this was one of those places.

It's a secret, I can't tell you.

It's one game... at Lambeau. Generally speaking, McD has squeezed as much out of this group as you can ask for. He's not going anywhere. This is season is all about the growth of Josh Allen... he's playing with ankle weights right now. Surround Allen him with some modicum talent next year and lets see how McD does.
-
They should let Dunleavy call the play-by-play, except for goals... let RJ do the goals... and let him jump in with the "HALFWAY! through the first period...".
-
It's not an issue of motivation. You can be motivated and playing hard and still get your butt kicked.... it happens. It has nothing to do with being thinned skinned. The game is tight, you make a good play, score whatever, then celly, point at the bench... do whatever IDGAF. You're up by 6 goals late in the game and you taunt the bench.... I'm sorry, that's a code violation. Marchand didn't attack him because he was butthurt.... he did it for no other reason than because he broke the code. Unless you've played at a high level, I don't expect you to understand the code. But it's there. And for good reason.
-
Eller broke the code... and he paid the price.

Yeah, I played competitively through the early 90's.... hockey was much different back then and we were coached much differently. I have level 4 USA coaching certification and have coached multiple youth teams at different levels for the past 10 years.... it's nothing like I remembered.... and that's probably for the better, it's just hard to see it that way sometimes.

That's a fair, and not unreasonable, opinion... btw I never called you a snowflake, I don't think you are one, nor is anybody for that matter... the world is not that black and white IMO, everybody has their own opinion, etc, etc... I thought this was a good discussion.
-
That was very very well done, fantastic!
-
Again, what should BOS do in that case? Or should they just leave it to the refs to call an unsportsmanlike penalty for taunting? Like the NFL? That might a good rule change... FOR THE SNOWFLAKE GENERATION BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH..... j/k.
-
Yep, agree 100%. I liked Brad May, what happened to him?
-
This sounds like something my 12 year old son would say tbh. ? In your opinion, what would've been an appropriate response from Boston? No response at all? Just let WSH show them up, goal after goal after goal... and just take the taunting? It's one thing to celly when the game is tight, but when it's completely out of reach and you're blowing out your opponent, there's no need for it except to taunt your opponent.
-
There's nothing childish about holding somebody accountable for his/her actions. The only childish behavior was on Eller's part. There's a code in hockey and Eller crossed the line, so he was rightfully disciplined by a seasoned veteran... end of story.
-
12 of those 34 were overtime losses... so that's 22 non-OT 1 goal losses... half is 11*2= 22 extra points + 62 = 84pts total
-
It's also "punk and thug" to show up somebody who's having an off day. Don't taunt your opponent if you can't handle the repercussions.
-
Eller wouldn't have done that obnoxious wave if Bob Probert or Tony Twist was on the BOS bench. These are prideful athletes, showing them up when they're having an off night is something that needs to be kept in check.... moving forward Eller will think twice about his celly, which is the way it should be... mission accomplished, players police themselves.

I had looked at this before, game by game... they lost 34 games by 1 goal. This includes all games where they were trailing by 1 and gave up 1 or 2 empty netters. 6 in each of the first 3 months, 5 in Jan, 6 again in Feb, 2 in March and 3 in April.

I love RJ, but there are times where it sounds like he's confused as to why something was called the way it was on the ice. They show a replay and it looks obvious, but he just sounds lost.... you get that "watching a game with my grandfather" feeling. I have Center Ice, and find the opposing team broadcast is much much more informative and tuned in to the game/calls, so I often go that route. And it's interesting to hear how the rest of the league perceives the Sabres.

Speaking of this Marchand/Eller fight... who will drop the mitts for Buffalo? Sobotka maybe? McCabe?
-
We'll stated. There's a big difference between speed and playing fast.

Reinhart is arguably the second best player on the team and has been around for a bit now. If he's part of the core, he should've been strongly considered. Bogo just seems like an odd choice given he only plays a fraction of a season. Okposo with his health issues... not sure I would staple an "A" to his jersey considering it could be curtains on his career the next time he takes a shot to the head. Reading his story in the Athletic, I was of the opinion he should've retired instead of risk his future well being with a young family, etc... I'm going to wince every time he takes a hit this season. Pominville, as former captain, would've made sense as an assistant given his tenure... and durability.
-
Nothing for Pominville? or Reinhart? I would've picked either of them over Nogo Bogo, and prolly over Okposo too.... but then again, I'm not in that room so I'll just trust the process here.

Look, I understand the message the NHL is trying to send, and their vision of what hockey should look like... I just don't agree with it. Personally, I enjoyed watching hockey much more when it was violent and policed by goons.
