Since KA ran it back with essentially the same top six how about bringing in a coach dedicated to working with Tage and Cozens? Get Tage to improve D and play making, and let the goals come to him. Teach him to use his frame rather than stick checking. Work on Dylan’s positional play and we’d get a lot stronger up the middle.

He’s got an $11M cap hit that would require us taking back an equally big contract. I think any blockbuster trade Sabres could make would require a package of our overpaid contract(s) along with guys like Thompson, JJ, Benson, Greenway. Sabres at this moment are the poster child for not building through the draft. Panthers and Vegas are the opposite spectrum. I forget what GM I was listening to last week but he emphasized a strong veteran core that you bring youth into - not the opposite.

These contracts are why I’m fine (this year) of KA not spending to the cap. If we fail this year I’ve got to believe we’ll have a POHO to evaluate everyone.

I expect Columbus to come out banging and see if we’ll hold up. That could work to our favor as a wake up call.
