  1. If it was my billions I’d at a minimum bring in a POHO. The question I can’t answer is who that would be.
  2. Nice interview with Tage. Usually not much said in these; refreshing change.
  3. Didn’t see that coming. I dread pulling the goalie this year
  4. Globetrotter weave but alas no shots on goal
  5. I’ve done a Ctrl-Alt-Del on the season ytd and expect solid, hustling hockey from now to April! Go Sabres.
  6. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/he-needs-to-be-one-of-the-drivers-golden-knights-cassidy-calls-out-eichels-play/ Maturity, coaching and teammates all elevated Jack’s play. As good as he was here, his D was no where near what it is today. His play in the Four Nations validates the generational moniker he was labeled / cursed with. He’s worth the price of admission . The wife and I bought those “I’m just here to see Jack” T shirts although in full disclosure we bought them right before our trip to see our grandson Jack.
  7. Good points and I’ll give a couple real world examples I’ve seen. In the early to mid 70’s the Amerks had a d man - Harry Shaw? - who would slide and attempt to block everything. He was a fan favorite - they’d yell Harr-Eee after every block. His goalie wasn’t so enamored as he claimed Harry was obstructing his view. Dial ahead 40 years and Syr Crunch had a d man named Dan Smith who would do anything to win, including blocking shots. Teammates and goalies alike loved his play and I believe he was made captain and wasn’t nearly the most talented guy on the team. I think a lot of these shot blockers lead by example by putting themselves in harms way for the sake of the team. How can you not notice the commitment? (Where have we heard that word before?) I was listening to the Stars beat reporter and he raved on what a pleasant surprise and important piece Lybushkin is to their team this year. He’s also top 10 in blocks. Lastly, if the shot is truly blocked it didn’t go in the goal.
  8. Our first year playing Fantasy Hockey on the ESPN app we found the vast majority of defensemen were useless to roster. Ergo we made a change the next season to award 1 pt for blocks and it changed a d man’s value completely. So now that we pay attention we find that many of your top stay at home defensemen do indeed block a lot of shots. Guys like Tanev, Oleksiak, Savard, and van Riemsdyk are all at or near the top of the list.
  9. The sequence where O’Reilly single handedly dared us to try and advance the puck and we had no takers hopefully gets fixed in the off season. We need puck carrying centers! Lots of hot potato going on.
  10. TT looked lethargic all night without the puck. Looked slow and gassed. Maybe needed more time off. Bad passing and lost puck battles all around. Lindy pulling the goalie behind by one - forget what the book says you have enough empirical data this season to say this won’t end well. Quite the regression from the last few games.
  11. Sitting next to the camera man and took a peek at his notes and players to ISO on. Cozens is on the list of 4.
  12. My daughter in Tennessee bought me tickets for this game. What better way to spend a weekend than with kids, grandkids, 70F temperature, and a Sabres victory!
  13. Since we’re in last place I had to give the nod to Donnie.
  14. So you’re saying there’s a chance?
  15. I was pretty cynical about the fight 3 seconds in but maybe the intent was to get it out of the way and let the rest of the team just play hockey? Allow them to no worry about having to play a game we’re not well suited for? Maybe. Thoughts on our continuous 3rd period issues; is it our lack of strength on the boards or lack of puck carriers to exit the zone? Or what?
  16. I bet Tage feels better now
  17. Shocking they didn’t nail it with their $30 / month price tag. Price elasticity ignored.
  18. IMO Lindy was defending his players. Don’t you think he’d love to have someone with the toughness and temperament that would have addressed it immediately?
  19. Phew, don’t want to see anyone blocked.
  20. Dodgers ‘65, Bruins ‘72, SU Bball 2003. Was fan of Koufax, Orr and SU grad / local team.
