  1. I was watching an interview where they said that CBJ HAS to overpay for players, not just because they are not a great franchise but because no one likes their coach and most players don't want to play for him.
  2. Id have no problem trading picks for him. I just wouldn't want to trade the future at a winger position for a rental. I heard people on here and Twitter saying it would take 13 and Savoie or Kulich PLUS something and I'm thinking: pass.
  3. I don't get trading multiple top prospects for a 1 year rental?
  4. Thank you for this, I will follow your advice. I really appreciate the time you put into this answer and it makes a lot of sense. Look forward to watching more tape!
  5. Thank you! I really enjoy getting in the weeds with football and isolating players when I re-watch games to see what the real issues are with our play so I spent a couple hours reading about hockey strategy last night. It's a little daunting starting from scratch, but I'd like to be able to look at a player (like Defensemen this offseason) and understand why they would or wouldn't be a good fit with our team. I keep hearing we need a Top 4 Defenseman but hockey has so many versions of Defensemen that I think I and a lot of people would benefit from understanding why someone is or isn't a fit with the Sabres. I was reading an article about Chris Tanev having triple digits in blocked shots over the last 5 seasons and then talking about advanced metrics like his Fenwick and Corsi numbers and my head wanted to explode. Right now I've just been watching highlights and looking for someone who plays more like Samuelsson, but I think I'm wrong in doing that.
  6. Pardon my question as someone who is just getting back into the swing of things here on the hockey board and whose general hockey knowledge is weak. I was thinking about the draft and realized I have a very limited knowledge of what this team actually runs. Watching the games I hear things like the Sabres play "an aggressive possession" game but that doesn't really tell me much. I know we're looking at players who fit our system, so my question is: what system do the Sabres run? What forecheck system do we typically run? 2 1 2? 1 3 1? I know people complain that when the center ice is clogged by opposition teams we have a harder time, but as a neophyte I don't know how to translate that. What is our typical defensive system? Do we employ more fronting or net-side positioning? I appreciate any help you all can give. Learning this stuff really helps me enjoy the games more. Thanks!
  7. That's why I keep a resQme in all my vehicles. I just started putting together some IFAKs for my home and vehicles too. Now that I'm getting older I'm realizing how much those little things matter.
  8. Soccer is the world's #1 sport. That said, I don't think it's inevitable that the MLS will overtake the NHL just because there are more people interested in the sport and there is a lower bar to entry for people interested in playing. The MLS is not the #4 league right now and has a lot of ground to make up to catch the NHL in revenue. The NHL made about 3x what MLS made last year. The NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL can all claim to be the top league in their respective sports, the MLS will never be able to do that. The MLS doesn't have enough support locally to be a tier 1 league and it's doubtful it ever will be. England, Italy, Spain, France, Germany all have better leagues with top-end teams that are 10x better than whatever the MLS could put out even with an all-star team. Basketball will overtake baseball within the next couple of years, their league revenues are super close with the MLB just barely edging out the NBA this year. That's the only move I see on the horizon. I could see support of soccer in the US overtaking support of hockey, but realistically that doesn't mean the MLS > NHL, most people just support European clubs and not their local team. I believe Axios is wrong and I say that as someone who is a bigger soccer fan than a hockey fan.
  9. The FO and coach feel like his leadership is necessary in the locker room. You can disagree with that, but after the 2nd or 3rd post from the same posters complaining about the same thing it's just ridiculous. The team will only get younger and leadership is a needed component. I'm willing to bet these same people who don't understand team chemistry have never been a part of a successful team and as such will always undervalue it. This isn't a video game where you put in the 22 yr old 78 ovr to replace the 70 ovr and everything works out better for you.
  10. Here's our Russian pipeline: Viktor Neuchev - drafted 2022 - Rd 3 Signed ELC with Sabres Vsevelod Komarov - drafted 2022 - Rd 5 Signed ELC with Sabres Prokhor Poltapov - drafted 2021 - Rd 2 KHL contract through 2023-24 Aleksandr Kisakov - drafted 2021 - Rd 2 Signed ELC with Sabres Stiven Sardarian - drafted 2021 - Rd 3 Playing at UNH (NCAA) Nikita Novikov - drafted 2021 - Rd 6 Signed ELC with Sabres
  11. Nice to see the Russians signing.
  12. That's by design. None of them have redeeming qualities. If you like someone now, just wait a few episodes.
  13. Question for everyone about watching the games - Is there any way to watch the games online? I live internationally but would be happy to purchase a pass to watch if that's an option. Thanks!
  14. I didn't realize GMKA and DG had been running the team for 12 years. You go on an "hold them accountable" I'm sure they will lose sleep over it. It's pretty obvious that they wanted to see how this young team responded to pressure and that this was a teaching moment because this team is obviously not a contender at this moment. This season was positive experience for quite a few of our guys. Same thing was said when the Bills turned over their FO and coaching staff, they had to build the right way and even though they inherited a streak for missing the playoffs they didn't feel any ownership for it, not should they have. Bills backed into the playoffs yr1 unexpectedly and then missed the next year. The current incarnation of the team wasn't set til year 3. Sabres have a solid group of talented forwards, the best prospect pool in the league and have learned what it takes to win by being put in a pressure cooker. They came up short this year, it was not a wasted year, they accomplished a lot. Tired of people complaining about "tone" and "messaging" who don't know what it takes to create a successful team. We will make the playoffs next year.
  15. I watched an episode and a half and didn't like it. I don't see that anyone needs to defend negative reactions, we're all free to disagree. But I'll answer your question: I found the writing to be poor and devoid of substance; the humor isn't sharp or nuanced - not for me.
  16. I pretty much hated TC til Maverick came out and I remembered Edge of Tomorrow, which is fantastic. Now I dislike him but am willing to watch.
  17. Making the playoffs would have been nice, but Granato used this year to expose his very young team to the pressure of must-win situations and see how they responded and grew. Now we can spend money to pick up a top 4 D and a solid defensive winger instead of sacrificing young players or picks that we will need in the future. We weren't winning the cup this year anyway, our team got significantly better and we retained our important assets for the future.
  18. If only there were a way that these young players could all practice together and get really meaningful minutes in a bunch of games that wouldn't cost the Sabres points in standings for playing kids before they are actually ready. Oh wait...
  19. Because the FO doesn't really care about you and the team has, by all measurable metrics, gotten better.
  20. Basically NYI or FLA have to lose their final 2 games in order for us to go through, correct? Pit just has to drop a single point because we have them on a tiebreaker?
