I think they are going to be within sniffing range. I think the traditional 93 (54 pts in 48 games) point line will be lower this year as most teams will bumble and stumble early getting their act together. Add to that basically 1 more game each week and I see ALL teams struggling to put consistent win streaks together.

I have no doubt that stat is true. But I think the point was or is that he scores them early in the game and they then hold on to win. Can you honestly remember a real big goal for Vanek? He scores a lot, granted, but in the times of the game when their importance isn't noticed. Now ask your self how about Briere? Drury? Campbell? Myers? Gragnani? I think Vanek's goals are all important, they just don't strike you as game changers when they happen...

I'm with you here. Vanek's goal rarely are difference makers. I can't recall a single goal late in the third where he tied or won the game. I can remember a few shoot out goals that helped win games.

Prognostications: 1, Kaleta will break his hand grabbing a puck out of mid air 2. Grigs will be sent down at some point in this season. 3. Hechts will bounce around from line to line with no permanent home. 4. The line of Ennis, Stafford and Foligno will not make it through 15 games before being broken up. 5. Miller will have a GAA around 2.10. 6. Enroth will get eight games 7. Ott will be a fan favorite and will lead the team in PIMS edging out Kaleta 8. Scott will not fight a single Bruin 9. Sabres will stumble out the gate and have a losing record after the first ten. They will get better as the season goes on and will be chasing a 7-8 spot. 10. Sabres will finish with 49 points.

I'll drop this in here.. Haven't seen these rule changes discussed before.. First, there’s now a penalty for touching the puck with a hand to win a faceoff. Second, players will be penalized for grabbing an opponent’s facemask/visor.

When you watch stuff like this, you really get the sense that the Sabres are trying to change their culture and build a winning franchise, year in, year out. I wish the Bills could work as hard to change culture not just coaches...

I left the autodraft finish for me. I hung in there for the first 8 or 9 picks. After that, esp with 16 teams, it's a crap shoot for me anyway. My knowledge just doesn't extend down to 3rd lines on all teams.. Was okay with a couple of the remaining picks it did for me. We shall see. I waited too long to take D and it shows. I put a high premium on guys playing more than one position like C,LW or LW,RW. I like the flexibility it affords me to slot in players. I also took Ryan Miller. He better rebound ......

I was thinking about what it means to be a 50 goal scorer pace in a shortened season. Using your formula of (48/82)*50=29 goals..

If the D stays healthy, a big if on this team, they will already be 5-10 games better in the standings.. They could make some noise if they get off to a decent start. Teams that tank the first 10 games may never recover with this compressed format.
