This is where it gets sketchy for me... I first read they were paying him 5.5M to stay home. So I made the illogical leap that it was 2.75M, ie 50-50. But then I read his cap hit was more, like 7-something million. There are those on here that want to understand the fine print of the CBA and I'm appreciative of that. I myself would rather read War and Peace first. So let's say it is at least 2.75M and probably more. That makes this deal a tough one to consider especially seeing that he appears to be having trouble scoring. I suspect someone is going to give him the coin...

I can think of 2.75M reasons.. Certainly not saying this is a slam dunk. A lot would depend on his health. But he is a center.. He's a veteran and SC winner. I don't think they would have to trade anything if they gave MTL some salary relief. Too late now that the number 1 center has just been resigned.. Just interesting conversation at this point..

Gomez is 2 years younger, a CENTER and could be had for a pricey 2.75m if I understand the cost sharing of the new CBA.

Completed a draft in another league today.. Man my other NHL team players IQ was really, really rusty..

The FLA Panthers gutted their team two years ago and restocked. They went to the playoffs last year. They traded away one of their most popular players in Booth. The Buffalo Sabres continue to retread system guys and hope to make it to the playoffs. I see the Hecht decision as a total capitulation to old guard thinking.... Stay the course... Don't take chances... Throw another log on the ashes.. Brennan and Griggs should be on opening day roster and should stay up.. Make the room.. Kaleta, Gerbe, Ellis, Leopold and McCormack should be long gone... There has to be other players out there that can give us what these guys give us... Hecht should stay in Germany and be a local hero... Doesn't have to be all at once, but start clearing away what clearly wasn't working....

I would rather season an AHLer than bring Hecht back. I don't care how well he is playing in Germany. It's hard to recast the team when you continue to cast them with the same old, same old.
