  1. I have a weird feeling about this game. UPL in. No Dahlin. No Tuch. New player on D. Its Boston, anything can happen.
  2. They added some vets last year, now they plan on beefing up their pipeline I guess.
  3. I think you might be correct. Some of the young guys could look at it as a vote of confidence, the tweeners must feel like they dodged a bullet, some older guys probably want to see more commitment to win. Highly competitive guys of any age could also be wondering when will the Front Office be all in. The cold reality is that next year they might not be as good. You never know what can happen to derail a season and the Sabres history is filled with disappointing seasons immediately following good ones. Last years President's Trophy winners are struggling to make 8th place this season. The trade deadline ends in 26 hours and 6 minutes from when I pushed submit.
  4. He chose not to sign before he got into this business school and decided to get an MBA or whatever degree he is after. Although I am sure he is bright young man, getting a business degree does not constitute extreme intelligence by any stretch. He just told the world that his agent told him not to sign in Buffalo. So that is what he did. We spent a 3rd on him and we got a 3rd back - but he wasted our time and left a hole in the pipeline. I wish the NHL would put a stop to this loop hole with the NCAA kids.
  5. It’s too late for what ifs, at least for me. As for Johnson, I sure hope we don’t base critical roster decisions and potential playoff status on making him comfortable. He can go no matter what we do and we still get compensation pick. I don’t want a player who does not want to compete. He belongs in Rochester next year anyway.
  6. why was Adams actively in discussions if Chyckrun was not a fit? Seems like that is something they know quickly. The angst comes from the price that AZ “settled for” was one 1st rounder, not two or three. And Ottawa got better. Look at what Toronto gave up for McCabe and Lafferty, futures in 25 and 26 that they can replace.
  7. If you’re right then that is a losing mentality. Reach a goal and be content, instead of pushing harder to the next goal. That is not great leadership. There is no guarantee we will be better next year either. We have been lucky with injuries, especially at forward. We still do not have a #1 goalie. Teams will learn how to play Buffalo. Teams in our conference are getting better too. Next year is another story.
  8. Not really. It more like salvaging an asset before we lose it. Portillo did not want to play here. He said that back when we had Tokarski and Dell.
  9. Good post. It’s a new day. I am more disappointed than angry right now. The mantra of build from within seems to be taken to extremes by the Sabres. Chyckrun would not be a guy I target to help the team, but considering he was available, and has 2 years remaining at a cap friendly contract, I was on board to get him. There is time to find a veteran defender but I think Adams is done and Stillman is our new 6 once Dahlin is back.
  10. To the team the changes are less than to the fans. We are still neck and neck in a showdown with 7 teams. We still have games in hand. We are still without Dahlin and Tuch. We still don’t have #1 goalie.
  11. If we make the playoffs with the lineup we have Adams will be vindicated. If we fall short, he will be under scrutiny, and he should be. It about RESULTS and Adams cannot rest on the fact that the team was in the race in March. He has had opportunities to improve the team and made decisions to stay the course.
  12. Last July after a golf outing. I loved it. My good time buddy was in town and rating he was rating Beef on Weck. He put Charlie the Butcher and Anderson's ahead of Schwabels. I like them all of the above plus Bar Bill, Schawnee, and Gabriel's Gate. I like them all with most any of the local IPA's. You can't get a sandwich like that in a lot of places.
  13. Ok all. I shot a 90 in 18 holes in late winter conditions. I did much more than Kevyn Adams did today. He did nothing. I am not happy that the team has over achieved but the front office, meaning Adams, is not helping to make this playoff push succeed. Since Adams is not working to make the team better he should stop writing letters and communicating false hope to the fans, and stop getting star players to write letters. Just get better players and win more games Kevyn, no need to communicate. Your actions are speaking volumes.
  14. No guarantee. Ottawa is only 2 points behind us and we have one game in hand but a harder schedule.
  15. We have a team run by our GM. His job is to make this team better. Our team has performed beyond expectations and the GM has not made moves to improve them as of yet. Players have been traded to other teams, and we had resources to match or beat those trades. But we didn’t. Summary: our GM’s priority is not to make our team better right now. If we miss the playoffs again, and if Ottawa and Detroit pass us in the standings, then our GM failed big time. But hey, we get a better draft pick.
  16. Who wants a player that doesn’t want to compete?
  17. He could easily beat it. it’s far less than the two or three #1 Equivalents that everyone was quoting. Im not happy with this. Ottawa got better.
  18. This was a response to @PASabreFan. There is no irony intended at all. Makes me wonder if you know what irony means.
  19. Ok Gents, I am going out now to play 18 holes. After that a few beers and a burger. I'll be back in 6 hours to read about the great trade Adams made to help the team right now, while not hurting the future. Can't wait.
  20. If, if ,if. What will happen by missing this year that enables making it the next ten years? Why would making a few low cost moves now hurt the development of the core? We should be replacing our worst couple of players with better players right now.
  21. It is common. they stink on the radio. They do not do play by play. I never know where the puck is. It is frustrating to listen to. We had Ted, we had RJ, we had excellent teams for 40 years - then it ended.
  22. I fear you are right. Right now I am kinda' pissed off about last night. We wont talk in detail about goaltending, the teams real #1 need, but it sure looks his Comrie acquisition is not improving this team - Comrie is a back up, just like he was in Winnipeg. I think Team Goals should be adjusted upward when they can be. In this case the Sabres are definitely a strong playoff contender, probably ahead of KA's predicted pace, so goal adjustment upward is the way to accelerate growth. A few moves could have been made that do not put the long term plan at risk but that accelerate winning and success - something the core needs. Before the Tuch injury he needed two defenseman, and if he adds a true #4 he really only needed to add one defenseman. Instead he adds another 6/7/8 guy to go with his collection of 6/7/8 guys (Boosh/Clague/Bryson). The need to help the defense has as not changed since Tuch went out. At least with Tuch out we could slot Quinn in there and continue to push a top rookie. At least we have Vinnie and Aspie as forward depth. The defense has nothing in Rochester. After seeing another mediocre crowd last night, and another uninspired home ice performance, I have to wonder why he would be so hesitant to make moves for the likes of Shenn or other vets? Look at the goals and the pressure that was put on by Columbus and you see that no one wanted to physically engage in playing solid defense last night. They were lazy. Dahlin was missed. Power was overworked and cannot possibly carry the load. Joker did not step up and will not physically engage against a team like that. Boosh made numerous positional mistakes and he is below average on the PK (which really showed last night). Bryson is a midget and a turnover machine and needs to go. Clague is timid. Boston will present the same physical game as Columbus but will have much more skill to go with it. Hopefully the road environment and the noisy crowd will wake them up. (I will rant about the home ice play in another thread.) My bottom line is that KA should be adjusting Team Goals upward when he can. As good as this season has been, they could once again miss the playoffs - not only that but they can still finish behind Florida, Detroit, and Ottawa - if that happens it will be hard to call this season a success. It will be a shame if it happens because the GM would not consider a few roster moves. The ESPN crew talked about the need to add a few vets to the team to help them "avoid games like tonight" per Bucci. I think of Schenn for a 3rd rounder and I get even more pissed.
  23. I see that he is is just another option for 6/7 and now 8. There are none in Rochester. Apparently DG thinks he can skate with this team and that he fits.
