Stamkos plays primarily LW at this point in his career.  Point and Cirelli are the top 2 centers.  Their top line was Stamkos on the LW, Point at center and Kucherov at RW.  Stamkos is actually 4th on TB in faceoffs taken behind Cirelli, Point and Paquette.

This is ? accurate.  In Addition to these facts look at average time on ice five on five.  He was third amongst forwards. Only Kuch and Pointe ahead of him.  If you look at his line mates on Frozen Tools more than half his time was with Stamkos/Killorn/Johnson/Palat.   Which implies Top 6.  He even had about 5% with Nikita which means top 3.

Question.  If Cirelli is unattainable which may be true only by their expected return, would you take on cap hit like McDonogh to obtain a cheaper version in Gorde or Johnson?

I guess the question is, what are we targeting for that 8th pick?

Someone we hope turns into a Selke contender, when we might be able to grab one now who is only 21? I think he’s very available. We lament not getting JT Miller. Let’s make a serious move if it makes sense. I guess it’s up to Kevyn and Kym

Is this a thing now?  If not, it needs to be.

I'm watching a lot more music videos on youtube.  And I've made a concerted effort to watch less news that's forced on me by TV.  If I want current news, I now search the web and get a 360 degree view of all news sources (noting their inherent biases) and draw my own conclusions.

I might recommend Smerconish on POTUS channel Sirius XM radio weekday mornings from 6-9am pacific.  News topics are debated from both sides of the political spectrum.  The host is well read and his guests are mostly writers, and Academics from higher institutions. Not like his CNN show on Saturdays.

Does this mean the players voted in favour of the 4 year extension?

According to the story in the Athletic

    https://theathletic.com/1909008/2020/07/03/all-the-details-of-the-current-framework-for-the-nhls-new-cba-agreement/?source=user_shared_article

It it will go to the players this week for a vote.  Interestingly absent from the agreement is compliance or amnesty buyouts.  So if the terms are accurate and there is new min salary of $750k and the Cap will not increase for two years, and no team has a compliance buyout, how can it not be more advantageous than ever to have the amount of Cap space the Sabres possess?   Yes, rookie GM and all, but he should be able to force a trade with a desperate team.

If Dudley gets a call, and does not end up being hired it will be because of where he slots in the new and flat organization.

Dudleys NHL pedigree suggests a VP position.  You don’t have VPs working for GMs, especially first year GMs who report directly to the President.

If this conversation happens Dudley might want more status and control than the Pegula’s are willing to give him.

We still don’t really know who Ralph reports to, let alone how Dudley would fit in.  Does Kim have time to support direct reports from Ralph, Adams, and Dudley, plus the Business side?   Why would she want that?

     I guess I don’t understand the organization.

Execs have been known to take lesser positions to properly fit into a reporting structure.  Especially those in the ‘winter‘ of their careers.  I understand your sentiment and agree with most.   If Dudley can contribute and be the appropriate teacher for Adams with commensurate pay, they will find a way.  I have very little faith the Sabres organization will get there.  For no other reason than Kim and Terry.

...unless of course they signed him and he then resigned 30 days later due to "philosophical differences" with TP...

It would be pretty hard to keep @PASabreFan at bay, among other deleterious consequences.

This is hilarious.   I would go one step further.  If he is NOT hired, then I must assume that he was offered a position and after speaking with NHL executives around the league, his decision not to accept the position was solely based on current ownership.

IF the 2nd line has 2 of Cozens, Mittelstadt, & Thompson on it, either this off season went HORRIBLY wrong or we aren't playing any hockey until '21-'22.  (Possibly both.)

But just now it dawned on me, IF the '20-'21 season doesn't happen then guys like Mittelstadt & Dahlin that wouldn't have had to be protected this off-season because they don't have enough experience WON'T have gotten that extra year of experience & they don't need to be protected against Seattle trying to draft them.

(Fully realizing they'll play some sort of a season, but finally found a silver lining if they don't.  Sabres lose their 5th best D man (possibly 6th best if Jikiharju wouldn't have to be protected) or Hutton or a career AHLer F in that scenario.)

Gary and his misfits in the front office would find a way to manipulate the Expansion rules and f*ck us.

More like Ryan Johnson, Mitts 2021 1st

Mitts has little value to TB.  Wouldn’t crack their top 7 protected next year.    Concede they will find a way to sign Cirelli, take on Palat and extract Cernak in the processes.

I think you’re selling that unprotected 2021 1st short. That could easily be a top 3 pick ?

Other than Henrique what other 2C are available besides Cirelli?  Strome?

What about Stastny from Vegas?   He is in the final year of his contract (2020/21), Glass is ready to play full time minutes and they have less than $6m and need to sign one D, 2 Fowards and a backup  goalie. The Golden Knights  are not subject to the Seattle expansion draft.  This means they can accumulate younger talent.  My fear for Mitts value in a trade is what team is going to have him in their top 7 protected?  Christ, he is barely in our top 7 and we are horrible.  Meaning his trade value this year is extremely low to almost everyone, except Vegas. I guess if your thought is he could play 3rd or 4th line minutes at RW, make under $1m and hope he progresses and forces a GM to make a decision maybe.   What is his inherent value (even if waiver eligible) when he has to be exposed?

  10. What about a smaller offer sheet to hurt Tampa?  Cernak is also restricted.  Would a $4m *4 year be acceptable to him?  That offer sheet carries a second round as compensation.  Sergachev is obviously the priority.

In 1835, when the United States was only 59 years old and states stretched only to somewhere in Missouri, a mentally ill man by the name of Richard Lawrence attempted to take the life of President Andrew Jackson.  Lawrence, wielding two pistols, approached Jackson from behind and attempted to shoot Jackson in the back at point blank range.  The first pistol misfired.  The second pistol misfired.  Jackson turned around and bludgeoned that man to within an inch of his life using his famous cane.

When word got out to the young nation of Jackson's failed assassination, it was considered Divine Providence.  It was believed that God was a guiding hand in the US and this was more evidence He wanted the nation to succeed.

When laboratory tests were performed on the pistols, it was estimated that the chance of both pistols misfiring was 1 in 125,000.

It doesn't matter what the odds are.  We have Divine Providence.  The Buffalo Sabres are on a mission from God.

I agree, he won't be unemployed for long.  But, having been through this before, coming home and telling your wife you've been fired is one of the most difficult things to do in your life.  These guys are humans with families.who will likely have to relocate.  I wish him the best.

But was he really fired?  Offically yes.  But his contract was up on June 30th.   AHL uncertainty, reportedly a very expensive salary comparatively, results in Playoffs mentioned above and little hopes of pulling  a Sheldon Keefe as ownership seems  happy with RaKru.   Let's say he was negotiating a 15-20% raise with JB before this went down.  If there is a strong chance the AHL season is cancelled, what is the impetus for his extension?   I'd like to know how many of those scouts contracts were also up on 6/30.   That might help explain why the bloodletting was so deep.

The bolded, sadly, seems extremely plausible.  And it makes some head scratching moves over the past 2 seasons make more sense.  (Not in that they should've happened but rather in understanding htf did that just happen.)

agree - extremely disappointing if that was the case.

So let's assume Adams decides to effectively use the analytics department,  independent of what he or his scouts, or coaching staff suggest.   In addition to this, if Adams is open to drafting OHL/QMJHL, and is not beholden to players like Hutton (b/c he signed him) or Mitts (b/c he drafted him),  leverages the uncertainty of the 20-21 season to  kick the can down the road on some RFA's,  and most importantly capitalize via trade with teams that need to move salary to remain under the cap, to help secure a veteran top 6 forward (s), why is our situation not better than it was a few weeks ago?  Granted the last one is not easy.   We all hear about rookie/inexperienced GM's crushed in trade negotiations and this could be concerning.  Hopefully the cap situation will factor in to level out that inexperience.

This podcast was great. Juicy stuff we never hear from the local media. Brawndo presents more inside info. on the Sabres than the Buffalo media does. I'm serious.

The lasting image I have from the podcast was one of them envisioning a Pegula bubble, the owners with both hands on the wheel, them and Kevyn and Ralph, untraditional hires, against the world.

I agree so many juicy tidbits which we don’t get from local media.   For me one takeaway was that agents were negotiating with Botterill as recently as a few days ago.  Then silence.  So maybe there was a “pitch” by JB of how to improve this offseason which was met with resistance.  Maybe his vision including keeping players like Carter Hutton and others we’re not in the plans of Kruger or Adams.  Maybe Adams who has no obligations or attachments to certain players recommended moving on a player such as Mitts.  I also found it interesting that Adams traveled with the team on a road trip which raised eyebrows amongst the insiders.

    Very worthwhile.  Thanks @Brawndo

Another possibility, jbotts camp leaked it to make fans less mad about going into the season with just Ulmark and Hutton, saying he'll be better now, because he can see.

@john wawrow please validate how this story got out.  All is forgiven if you can get to the J-bottom of this.
