Yup, that's kind of always been my philosophy. I mean Levi was a late round shot in the dark. It's a good strategy and you can never have too many goalie prospects as they all have unique development curves. (We don't have enough D prospects either. Lots of forwards, some of them pretty flashy, but not many D men and just the one goalie)

I just heard a thing about this study on the CBC and in the deaths they even include cases of high speed traffic fatalities as if these were caused by their fighting. That's a heck of a reach imo. They attribute every death to brain trauma issues not accounting at all for the fact that a lot of these guys were not bright lights to begin with and their "risky behavior" is just from being idiots. Bob Probert didn't take massive amounts of cocaine because Tie Domi hit him in the head a few times. He took it because he was party animal with too much money and too few IQ points to begin with.

What are you talking about??? Where did I say I wanted to trade away all draft picks and a bunch of players for a 1 yr player? Who are you even referring to? I've said it a million times, so once more, there is a MIDDLE GROUND. You fill your gaping wide holes by trading a FEW picks or prospects as needed at this point. You don't have to keep acquiring more draft capital forever. You can WIN NOW AND STILL GROW BETTER LONG TERM. It doesn't have to be extreme one way or the other.

Don't forget Hamilton the year before. Key piece.

It's not a simple equation and many things factor in. Detroit was obviously disappointed with what they got from them. Ottawa had some trouble jelling that team together and they had some injury issues but they were looking pretty good toward the end of the year. Detroit still has a ton of picks to come. You skipped New Jersey, who got it done. We climbed because Cozens came into his own, Mitts improved, Samuelsson also fully developed and we added Power. Peterka and Quinn were inconsistent but decent and even good at times. It's always a combination of things. All I'm saying is we are not alone in terms of non playoff teams pressing for those playoff spots. We will have to be even better next year.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs 2023: Second Round GDT.
PerreaultForever replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
NJ were so soft and passive tonight. They seem to have forgotten this was a playoff game not a regular season game. Learning curve for a young team I suppose but a costly lesson. Carolina on the other hand looks ready for the next round. Kraken Stars could still go either way. -
The D isn't deep enough or adequate imo, even if Power is even better (he could just as easily have a sophomore slump). A lot obviously depends on Levi and the goaltending being substantially better. To me it's a hopeful thing but far from a sure thing. Looking at this year's playoff teams Boston won't be as good but might still be good enough to be in the playoffs. Rangers might drop a little but hard to say. New coach. Might be the same. Nobody above us obviously ready to crash and burn totally just yet. Detroit and Ottawa SHOULD be improved and maybe challenging. It won't be easy. We will need a solid win streak in November instead of a losing streak to have a chance. Unless we improve the roster. Then we can leap forward like New Jersey did.

Alex Tuch named alternate captain of Team USA

Smooth move by Tuch to switch hands. I so want this guy to wear our C next year. -
I don't want them to start trading all the capital away and emptying the cupboard, but I would like them to do what it takes to fill the holes we have (and have had for quite a while) so that we don't have another near miss season. We need to make the playoffs and get this young core excited about being IN the playoffs. In general I don't trade 1st rounders away but lower picks are on the table to do what it takes. If we have too many forward prospects I'd swap for D in a heartbeat. I just want the holes filled. Get that D man to pair with Power. Do whatever it takes for that now and then keep building on those prospects. Most of all I want to be enjoying the playoffs like all those Kraken and Devils fans are.
-
The question is always at what point do you use that capitol and how much do you use at that time? Do you not think it's time to make the playoffs now???
-
Most lists I've seen have him top 10. Sportsnet for example has him at 7. Reinbacher will be gone before 13. Of this I am near certain but if he falls you take him. I know this will be disagreed with by some here but I kind of like Nate Danielson. I can see him becoming the perfect 3rd line 2 way center for us down the road. Oh and ya, of course the thing was rigged. I called it for Chicago months ago. Nothing shocking there.
-
No, I don't bet anything on sports, too many variables, and if I took it I'd be betting he DOES make it and I'm definitely not sure of that. I just like to hope for these guys to surprise us.

Never give up on a 20 year old. You just never know. If they can find a role and develop a specific skill set they can find a place to contribute.

The Kraken are simply a fun team to watch. -

That's why the season was a missed moment. You build too slow and wait too long and you get a very small window even if you do a good job building. Time to go is NOW. As for the Leafs, nothing new about the big 4 disappearing. The late additions all look like they are past their best before dates though that's for sure. Goaltending might actually sink them though. Florida definitely has the edge the way Bob is playing. -

Bugs me to see Reinhart happy, but makes me happy to see Toronto lose so I will take it. -
It is a little strange but I suspect it is his size so yes, the tall and lanky.

Vegas looked like a team that didn't belong there tonight. -
I could see Gallant in a number of places but he's a bit like Ted Nolan was. Doesn't get along with GMs so it probably has to be a team looking to rebuild from the bottom so maybe Anaheim, Arizona, Chicago, somebody like that. get the team to play that early Vegas style.

He goes the distance. I suspect NJ tries to keep him, but he is definitely a free agent I would go for. Right age to still give you a good 4-5 years or more of that hardnosed play he brings. He'd be perfect 3rd line wing, and then maybe 4th line near the end if we get really good. -
Maybe, but I think he's likely going to go late first round. If he isn't, definitely. I think you could definitely reach and get Strbak a little early with that pick. In a perfect draft you can wait and get him with our own pick if he's not gone.

and Button has his NHL comparable as Tage Thompson. Matthew Wood would be an interesting pick.

Carolina does look like a team that can smell the cup and wants it. Boston got all the press this year but for most of the season Carolina was just behind in terms of points. Trailed off a bit at the end when I think they knew they'd have no chance at first overall but they play the right way and might be able to handle the Florida stuff.
