  1. The Sabres stars are in their prime, including Vo, Dahlin, Tnt, Tuch, and Skinner. The window is now open, but our GM doesn’t see it.
  2. Apparently KA doesn’t absorb much from those conversations. Beane never sits on his hands. Need D line, sign Miller, Lawson and Phillips; need a RB, he goes and gets Hines; need a LB, claim Klein, need a safety bring back Marlowe. KA, on the other hand, 3 D injured do nothing.
  3. Bryson is out “week to week” with a lower body injury. Come on KA make a friggin move. Fitz is not the answer.
  4. It’s why I keep saying acquire a veteran defensive D. If I’m KA, I’m calling Van and making a deal for Schenn even if it includes a 2nd rd pick. Bush is playing with some nagging injuries, Bryson is now out “week to week” and we need more real NHL depth. Schenn is on a 1yr 850K deal and could be flipped at the deadline to recover any cost if management doesn’t want to keep him. I think his presence would make Bryson expendable and make our D much more reliable and consistent.
  5. I’m in full agreement that he can and probably will score 30 this season. He has 10 goals in 20 games ytd. He scores on average about 1 goal for every 3 games for his career. With 62 games left, assuming good health, he should score the 20 needed to reach that plateau even if he sinks back to his career average. The real question is will he be here to at season’s end or could he garner a 1st rd pick at the deadline? Back on topic for a minute. If this is only a developmental year, put Krebs on Mitt’s wing and leave him there all season and coach him up. Otherwise, send him down, let him find his confidence dominating inferior talent and then recall him after the trade deadline (if he isn’t traded) and see if can carry that confidence to better play down the stretch. Also put him on a weight program over the summer so that he isn’t so easy to knock off the puck.
  6. Of course. It happens often Reinhart ranged from 17 to 25 his first 6 seasons and then hit 33 last year. TNT had 18 goals for his career for 4 partial seasons before potting 38 last year.
  7. I think you mean 11/25.
  8. White, Hyde, and Edmunds out, Poyer and Milano in and out of the lineup with additional injuries to two young DL, it's amazing the D has been as good as it has been in general. Losing Miller could be a crippling blow.
  9. Players develop all the time in the AHL. Last I looked TNT and Mitts benefited from time in the A. JJP and Quinn weren’t NHL ready a year ago and improved greatly in their time in the AHL. The question is ultimately do prospect learn and develop their skills in the A or do they just develop physically to enable them to compete in the NHL? I think it’s some of both.
  10. Way to many injuries on D. Seriously how many all-pro guys can a defense lose and still be effective.
  11. https://www.nhl.com/news/borje-salming-hall-of-fame-defenseman-dies-at-71/c-338007692 What an amazing player. ALS is a terrible disease. 71 is much to young.
  12. He can’t. To young. He’s NHL or back to the WHL.
  13. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
  14. Honestly Krebs’ future here is in question. With Savoie making this team next season, JJP and Quinn already superior players, and Rosen and Kulich not far behind, where does Krebs fit? I’d trade him at the deadline or this summer for a D especially if Johnson doesn’t sign. Things really get interesting when we draft Bedard this summer. 😉
  15. Here is something that may not happen again this season. The Sabres won and neither Dahlin or Thompson had a point. Also both of Quinn’s goals were unassisted and both of Skinner’s were assisted only by Tuch. Edit. Just checked Dahlin has points in 8 of the 9 wins and Thompson 7 of 9. This was the only win to date where neither had a point. The team is also 6-1 with Samuelsson in the lineup. 3-10 without.
  16. …. And the dam breaks. Quinn cashes in 2. Hopefully a sign of great things to come.
  17. NHL Tonight had a chart showing that in the last 4 full seasons, 75% of the teams in a playoff slot on American Thanksgiving remain in a playoff slot for the season.
  18. Amazing game for a team on the back half of a back to back. You could feel Quinn was ready to start making a difference. Hopefully the dam is now broken for the skilled rookie. I’ve been hoping for a kid line since the off-season. Honestly putting Cozens with the 2 kids has put a pep in Cozens step as well. Skinner remains on fire. At the quarter pole it’s a tight race for team MVP between TnT and Dahlin, but the MIP (most important player) is Samuelsson. Getting him in the lineup changes all 5 other D in the lineup. It allows DG to properly slot the other players including Dahlin and the group instantly becomes more effective. Still hoping KA goes and gets more D depth as Bryson goes down tonight.
  19. I completely disagree. Bjork was a throw away piece of a trade to make the money work. So yes you can get nothing player from winning organizations like Bjork, but you can also get leaders who have been through the wars that know how to win. What a difference Chris Drury and Teppo Numminen made on a young team back in 2005. I believe someone like Luke Schenn would have been a great mentor here. It's up to the GM to find the right depth, but unfortunately our GM hasn't even tried.
  20. Just being honest. Math usually wins in the end. Right now, the math is decidedly against the Sabres. Bos and NJ are near locks for the playoffs at this point. TB, Tor, Car, and Fla are all better teams. The Rags and NYI have elite goaltending and good roster. Which of these teams do you see us legitimately better than? Now add Det and perennial contender Pitt to the mix of teams ahead of us in the standings. Sadly, I honestly believe had KA been willing to be more aggressive in fixing the D and G, we could have been this year’s NJ.
  21. No I wish we’d get a competent GM. Even you must acknowledge that KA has consistently failed to bring in adequate support for his young team on defense or in goal. Comrie was worth a shot, but to not upgrade Bryson or bring in legit depth behind him and a better player than Lyubushkin is unforgivable at this point. Truthfully, I’m beginning to question your judgment if you think Marino is comparable to Lyubushkin. PS we have 4 young/key players hitting their stride in Dahlin, Thompson, Cozens and Samuelsson. Power has also been solid as a rookie. NJ is getting contributions from all 4 lines and solid defensive play because they brought in solid veteran D, like Marino (only 25), Hamilton, Smith and Graves.
  22. Bush is in no way comparable to Marino. Marino is an solid 2 way D who puts up 25 pts a year and play solidly in the D zone. Bush has 26 pts total in 225 career games, he is also slow and mediocre in the D zone. He mostly brings a physical presence that consistently causes unneeded penalties. Marino is a top 4 D and Lyubushkin is a bottom pair guy at best on a good team. Palat has only played 6 games because of groin surgery, and Vanacek is twice the goalie that Comrie is. I also forgot they added Erik Haula. Here is a foreign concept, their GM actually made trades to improve the roster, instead of just shopping at only the FA bargain bin.
  23. And Adrian Dantley. RIP to the man who destroyed NBA basketball in Buffalo and laughed all the way to the bank, swapping the Braves for the Celtics. Talk about lopsided trades. Sadly had Brown kept the Braves together, we could have had a team of HofFers Malone, Dantley, McAdoo, with all-star Randy Smith at the point, and all-star Kauffman as the other guard. Instead Malone, McAdoo and others were traded for cash, picks and junk players to help pave the way for the David Stern brokered swap of the Braves for the Celtics, so that the Celtics owner could more the corpse of the Braves to San Diego.
  24. No he should see limited minutes or be replaced by Larry, Bryson should be replaced with a defensive veteran D from a winning organization.
  25. So why NJ and not Buffalo this year? 3 names - Palat, Marino and Vanacek. They wanted to add veteran winning leadership and they brought in players like Cup winner Palat at forward, Marino from perennial contender Pitts to shore up the defense and Vanacek from another perennial contender in Wash in goal. Lindy Ruff said on NHL they needed more vocal leaders in the lockerroom and off-season buy in from their kids. It looks like got it. We brought in Comrie and Lyubushkin.
