  1. My brother just called and said he was going to surprise me with tickets to the game on Friday. He's about 2.5 hours from Buffalo and not looking to do the drive in what they're currently forecasting. Even I don't want to go (unless the forecast improves) and I'm less than an hour from the arena. Any thoughts? Should he try to offload the seats now at a loss, or sit back and hope they postpone the game?
  2. Yeah, I don't believe in the learning to win thing. I think it's a statistical probability the winning team will have a good veteran that's won before. To the same point, there are far more teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs that don't win the cup despite having veterans that supposedly know how to win... But those teams are easily forgotten.
  3. Given his draft pedigree and relatively good production, someone is going to give us a Ristolainen Jr deal for Mitts. That deal will help us far more in the long run than having Kane or Toews will... Especially since the two of them are on the precipice of a giant cliff as far as production goes. To win a cup, we need to be as good as we can for AS MANY years as we can. There are always way too many good teams in the league every year to put all your eggs in one basket for one or two shots at it. The odds are simply against you if you LIMIT the years. The best way to limit years is giving up draft capital and young talent for declining vets. Cheap, young, good, and deep is the key. Identify and sign the key pieces early on team friendly contracts to stay good for 10+ years. That's the way to MAXIMIZE your chances.
  4. Guys, that video rocked... I really liked it! It doesn't change the fact that the Sabres Blue, White, and Gold standard jersey/logo is the best in all of sports and in my 100% lifelong biased opinion- it's not even close.
  5. Late 40s too. When I was a kid I used to imitate Darling with his monotonous style when I was stickhandling and shooting in the driveway or basement, but my dad and I liked RJ better. When playing the Leafs and watching their broadcast we'd turn off the TV sound so we could hear RJ. I don't think we'd have done that for Ted.
  6. They were on Channel 29 at one point too.
  7. I agree with everything you said except the bolded part which I fixed.
  8. What's the NHLe of an NCAA .902 save percentage? Hopefully he's studying hard in his business classes.
  9. Even really bad ones? Considering the rest of the NCAA, Europe, and the CHL, it seems there would be many, many better options.
  10. Based on his poor performance, would Portillo even be picked up by another team should he not sign with the Sabres? He's not even in the top 50 of NCAA goaltenders for save percentage.
  11. Your experience was completely different than mine.
  12. My biggest complaint against Dan isn't his goal celebrations, but it's all those plays he misses. For someone like me thats on the road most nights driving my kids to out of town arenas, I want someone that can paint a picture of what's going on on the ice. He's perfectly serviceable for TV, and he's actually really likeable as a host, he just doesn't have his radio game down.
  13. He's earned nothing since his junior days way back when. Since joining the AHL, he's shown zero progress. He should have been given the #4 job this year, and let him earn his way up.
  14. Also, Ullmark was decent to good since he entered the pros. Kkkkkk has never been serviceable.
  15. Lundquist has the face for TV, but that's about it. He's really hard to listen to.
  16. Love this one! I think we can all relate... Right now my wife is talking about her work. πŸ˜‰
  17. Like Inky, I used to listen to quite a bit of WGR, but now I've pretty much given up. Even in the car, I can do about 1 hour total per week of listening to Bills coverage, then it just gets too exhausting. I don't know how anyone can listen to so much football talk and still be entertained. There's only 1 game a week. That's not a lot of material to talk about. At least with hockey there's usually a game every 2 or 3 days. Then there's the gambling and fantasy talk... NO THANKS!
  18. 15 years or so ago when the Sabres were good and the Bills were bad, the Sabres were the primary topic of conversation on the morning and afternoon shows.
  19. I voted YES, but then I think about the goaltending and then I feel shame.
  20. Is Tokarski (or someone like him) really that funny as a #3? Or did you confuse my 3 with a 1 or 2?
  21. Adams' good as far outweighed his bad, but I think most of us saw his one mistake coming a mile away. That mistake was that UPL should NOT have been counted on as the #3 goalie in the organization... He still hasn't had just an average season in the AHL let alone a good one. UPL was not a good plan with a 41 year old in as the #2... Strangely, it was our #1 going down that got him in the NHL lineup, which is even worse, since Anderson's seemingly too frail to be shouldering the load. He had he gotten a proven AHL vet like Tokarski back as the #3, we'd likely have another 2 wins right now, and UPL would have had to fight tooth and nail for his NHL existence, rather than looking like the sloppy mess he's been so far. Maybe someone with more time on their hands than me can suggest a trade to Adams that brings us in a reliable NHL netminder, while sticking to our long term vision. I know many won't agree, but I'd personally even be willing to part with Levi at this point (given he's still a crapshoot), if him and maybe another pick could bring us in some proven long term help in net.
  22. In another thread I mentioned he's 30-something in PPG in the WHL. As much as we don't want to believe it, the reason is likely that he's just not playing well enough right now. Let's hope that it's just a short term injury holding him back.
