I think it's a bit of both. We were very high on Bailey and Baptiste and look how they're turning out. Way too early to tell at this point. My other, larger point, was yes he's hit on some players but he's had more high end picks than most GM's. Most GM's aren't picking consecutively second overall with multiple extra second and third round picks. He should have a higher hit success rate with more selections.

This is an interesting point. It was around when PHam was whining about Reinhart not staying late to practice with ROR when he turned it around iirc. Unless I'm misremembering the timeline.

I do really like what JBott has done on D. That Scandella trade was very savy. He missed on Beaulieu. I know he lucked into Dahlin but this D actually looks promising moving forward.

Eichel was billed to be the savior but Dahlin may be the one to follow through. I really want to believe the second half of last season was Eichel growing up. Get a mature Eichel and already mature Dahlin mixed in with an ultra competitive Mittelstadt and let's friggen go. I'm done with the cutsie double-rider bike rides coming into training camp.

Sure. But he was also handed much more picks and high end picks than most. Most GM's aren't picking 2nd overall two years in a row. Those should be guaranteed NHL players. That team was stripped down for future draft picks before he got there. He ended up with 3 high end second round picks in 2014 and missed on two (Cornell and Karabacek) and the jury is still out on Lemieux. The 2014 draft was nearly a complete disaster. Reinhart was second overall and outside of that he may end up with a steal in Oloffson in the 7th round. Otherwise he had 6 picks in the first 3 rounds and missed on everyone except 2nd overall.

How many years until Reinhart is UFA? Is it 5 or 6 more years? If that's the case, nfw am I doing a 6 year deal. I'm going 2 x 4.5 or I'm going with NS prediction.

I don't know how his actual goaltending ability will be but man he's has a 180 difference in attitude/personality to Lehner.

Yep, easily could be this. Terry seems to have little concern buying out and paying other bad contracts but this could be the principle of the situation.

Wildcard, I normally agree with many of your takes but I think you are off base with the most recent. Firstly it is wayyyyy too early to evaluate his last draft. Dahlin was obvious so it had to be Samuelson you had an issue with because in the 4th round onward it's all a big crapshoot. Not to mention from my limited viewing I've loved what I've seen from that 4th rounder. Also, your wrong on pomiville. We got rid of Ennis in that deal. That's a huge positive right there. Then u factor in us getting scandella, that was without a doubt a great trade.

This is a huge concern. But what if jack was a self entitled ass the first year or two in the league as 19/20 year old but starts to learn what it takes? I may be wrong but his defensive play, hustle and interviews the second half of the season were night and day compared to early in the year. Maybe it's wishful thinking but maybe a 21 year old or however old he is maybe is starting to get it. His D play and back checking was impressive to me the second half of the year.

This is fair. But they seem to be in more of the okposo classification than the pomiville type. Okposo has his issues but it's the cap hit that is the killer. Neither of those two has a hit nearly as bad as okposo.

I should point out that I don't like the trade and flagg and true blue make excellent points but the media seems to think it was a huge haul the Sabres received. Some seem to think botts got the overpayment he was looking for.

Between the JT signing and ROR trade this has been the worst off ice hockey day since black Sunday in 2007....without question. I've been so pumped for Dahlin (still am) but man, he hasn't even stepped on the ice yet and I'm losing the luster.

This is a good take and could be just as likely. I just think on paper that team should be more than a 60 point team.

I don't always take Paul Hamilton seriously but he's been quoted as saying Eichel has no problem with ROR but ROR has a problem with Eichel. Could be a scenario ROR just wanted out.
