The coach that got eaten up by my Gennies in the Memorial Cup Finals. Ok, it did go to overtime.....
-
I'm seriously sold on Keller. He would likely be a bigger risk then most other guys that will be available but he probably has the highest ceiling. I know it seems silly throwing out a name like Pat Kane but Kane is similar in size and this guy has unbelievable skill. His ceiling could be up near that ilk. I'm to the point where I'm going to be disappointed if he goes before 8 or if he's available and we don't take him.
-
The size is what would make it surprising if it's the pick. But....gmtm seems to really value hockey iq and this guy has it in spades. Watching a lot of his highlights and this guy is Sam Reinhart smart. Only an inch shorter than Marner and very similar type whom went 4th overall last year. He's also one of the younger players in the draft so there's a chance he even grows another inch. I get the competition he's playing against isn't the best of the best but he's putting up video game numbers.

it Clayton Keller is my pick. The d have too many questions. This kid could be a grand slam.

I've been cheering for the Pens this playoffs solely because the leafs own their first round pick and I want it to be as low as possible

Ya I've never really considered him but the more I read the more I would get excited about that pick. Murray has always preached BPA at the draft so I feel good about that. If he thinks the Dmen available at our pick can become top pairing guys to play with Risto then I'll feel great about taking a D. But the forwards in this draft seem deep and very skilled. I would hate to see us take a Zach Bogosian with so many high end forward prospects on the board just because our weakness today is on D.
-
Below is a great write up on Keller. To be honest I've just kind of ignored him due to his smaller size and therefore thinking TM won't take him. Sounds like an unreal talent. But after the Ennis head injuries I would worry about a guy this small making it in the league. http://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2016/5/9/11635216/small-point-machine-clayton-keller-2016-nhl-draft-prospect-profile

I believe it begins tonight. I'm taking Blues and Penguins (I know, going out on a limb right?) Edit: Game 1 of East goes tonight. Game 1 of west goes down on Sunday.

Being an adult sucks.

If he uses the revenue to put back into the team/scouting/facilities then I don't give a what they call the arena.

I agree but I think his idea of bpa pushes Russian players down the list. Who knows though? Watch him draft the Russian and then this narrative can be put to rest. But until that happens, I believe it.

This. Plus there seem to be more warts/uncertainties both historically with top 10 D vs. F and in this year's group in particular. If anything I would like to trade up two spots and guarantee myself one of the big 6 forwards.
-
If the other 2 D are taken leaving only the Russian then one of the forwards has fallen and you take him. Likely Nylander. One man's misfortunate is another man's fortune I guess...... Big 3 Tkchuck Dubois Nylander Juolevi Chychrun Above is my draft order for the top 8. If both D are taken then atleast one of those three forwards is available. Research them and I guarantee you will be very satisfied. Why wouldn't Murray take Nylander? He isn't Russian, isn't undersized and has enormous hockey IQ? That checks all of the perceived Murray boxes that I am aware of.

Thanks for posting this. What a great read. To me it shows that outside of the first few picks who knows how these guys are going to turn out. Posters were freaking out and threatening to light themselves on fire after Buffalo took Risto with the 8th pick. Lindholm, Nichushkin and even Nurse were much more popular choices then Risto yet I would take Risto over all three of them three years later. I've got my favorite guys in this years draft but some guys pan out and some guys don't and only time will tell. Overreaction is what makes it fun but sure looks ridiculous three years from now. Another thing I learned is Mackinnon was being viewed as the next Crosby (similar to McDavid/Eichel, now Mathews). Seems the top guy is almost always looked at as the next 'generational' type player.

Hey! The Brits were no commies :P

Not even a Buffalo mention? I thought we were in the running? Would rather Vesey anyways I guess.

He shoots left though. So it may be a benefit that he could potentially play both sides? Not sure what the reasoning of Windsor playing him on the right is/was.

Yep. Who knows with rookies and I'm not doubting Mathews is going to have a nice rookie season. I just have full confidence it won't be as productive as Jack. They don't have an ROR to shelter Mathews from the top lines either.- 456 replies

So I found this site which has the estimated conversions. Obviously these things are just best guesses. But it provides the conversion from the Swiss League to NHL to be 0.44. Therefore Mathews scored 46 points in 36 games or 1.2778 pts/gm. That's extrapolated to 104.7778 points over an 82 game Swiss season. 104.7778 x 0.44 factor = 46.1 points over 82 game NHL season. http://www.behindthenet.ca/projecting_to_nhl.php- 456 replies

Didn't someone have a formula that converted a player's points from one league and uses it to estimate their NHL points? I believe Jack's worked out to 54 points based on that formula. The Swiss league isn't a typical developmental league so maybe that formula only worked for CHL or NCAA?- 456 replies

I was so tired of my leaf loving brother bragging about Mathews that I told him I will bet him he won't score as many points as Jack did in his rookie year. He was too afraid to bet. Said too much risk that Mathews could get hurt and that's the only reason. Ya, ok. I'm guessing 40 to 45 points from Mathews next year.- 456 replies
