Sabres president of hockey ops — I'm calling it (again)
Curt replied to PASabreFan's topic in The Aud Club
This is one of the more incredible things I’ve seen on SabreSpace. -
Playoff GDT - 5/4/22 Belleville @ Rochester 7:05 pm AHLTV (?)
Curt replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Hits are not recorded very reliably. They are recorded manually by the home scorekeeper. I mean, just look at the home game splits for hits, the Sabres are so low it doesn’t even make sense. They have almost twice as many in road games. -
Yeah, they might not do all of that. The forwards are already a bit crowded, but an Eakin replacement/upgrade is a glaring void. I don’t know if they plan on bringing Vinnie back, and I don’t know if Peterka is going to start the season in the NHL. I understand not wanting to force someone to the press box, but it’s also true that it’s fair for all 12 forwards to be healthy. I kind of doubt that they bring in 2 D for the top 6. I think that Dahlin, Samuelsson, Power, Jokiharju, and Bryson will play. I think they will get the best guy they can for the right side then maybe find a low level veteran character guy to compete with Bryson and Fitzgerald and fill the 6/7/8 spots.

What is that supposed to be on Carolina’s sweater? I also don’t like this all black look. No way they win this one.

Thoughts on an Alternative to the Draft Lottery Format
Curt replied to Taro T's topic in The Aud Club
Yeah, a certain level of prospect would sign anywhere to get an NHL shot, but the top guys, those who would be lottery type picks, they would have a choice. I don’t think that they would hardly ever choose to sign with Winnipeg or Edmonton, or Columbus...... -
“You would have to keep on digging all the way back to his draft year” What do you mean? Digging for what? What will I find by digging? You are acting like you know this for sure and I’m just trying to ask why you are so sure? So far you have shown me that one anonymous western conference GM supposedly said “I think he is 20, not 18”. The whole thing is not impossible but I haven’t seen anything that’s at all convincing.

Thoughts on an Alternative to the Draft Lottery Format

Sounds like the MLB international free agent system. Problem with this is that some teams in undesirable locations would really get shafted. Few prospects would want to sign there. -
I thought you were saying that he was 26 when drafted? Um, in this story, it says that the rumors are not true and provides some evidence refuting them. Stating that his KHL team had the Russian secret police look into the rumors and they didn’t find anything. Do you know if this anonymous western conference GM or Damien Cox had any evidence at all to support this idea?

For some time they really did draft terribly. In 05, 06, 07, 10, and 11 they got pretty much nothing. From 2004 to 2013 they did not draft a single 1st line forward, top pair defenseman or starting goalie. In 2014-2015 the drafts were not too impressive outside of Reinhart and Eichel. In 2016-2017 the top-10 picks were Nylander and Mittelstadt. The stretch from 2005-2011 stands out as truly abysmal. That put the organization in a massive talent hole. From 2005 onward, what really stands out is the complete lack of high end players. There were guys who can fill out a bottom 6, 3rd defensive pair, or platoon goalie, but there just aren’t those real difference makers being drafted by the Sabres. Luckily, from 2018 on the drafts are looking a little better.

Vegas pick...do the Sabres want them to win the lottery this year?
Curt replied to sweetlou's topic in The Aud Club
Vegas has a 1% chance of moving up in the draft, so this is moot. I doubt that Vegas is worse next season. Much higher chance that they are better, make the playoffs, and draft somewhere in the 17-28 range. Now even a 22nd pick in 2023 might be a slightly better prospect than 16th in 2022, but I would bet that the Sabres are excited to a good prospect into the system this year. Like I said, moot anyway. Literally a 99% chance that it will be the 16th pick in the 2022 draft. -
Except that is not ridiculous at all. It’s not at all surprising that the Vegas PR people would brief players on how to handle questions at a press conference. That’s seems extremely normal. What you said was that they wouldn’t have media availability at all (which I thought a ridiculous over reaction) then you said that they would only have select players available who would toe the company line (which is pretty normal to have only select players available).
-
Oh look, they are having end of season media availability, just like every team does every season.
-
I understand that, unfortunately. Exactly why I think it’s so important that that starts to change. I want the Buffalo Sabres to feel a little less like a business and a little more like a family. My hope is that the mentality that GMKA is pushing right now and is being expressed by the players kind of radiates through the whole organization. It’s a hope.

Kyle Okposo is a really thoughtful and insightful guy with a huge heart. He has been through the wringer both as a Sabre, and as a person. He has seen the lowest of Sabres lows and is hopefully part of a major team turn around. He probably only has a couple more seasons of hockey left in him but he and his family live in Buffalo year round. When he is done playing, Okposo needs to be kept in the organization in whatever capacity he is interested in pursuing. He could be a Sabre for the next 25 years. I can’t overstate how important I believe this is.

Are you talking about signing young guys to long term deals early instead of using 2-3 bridge contracts?
-
Sabres won 8 of 14 April games. RJ is retired. Tage got to 38 goals. 33 for Skinner. Dahlin got to 53 points. Owen Power looked great in his first 8 NHL games.

Welcome back and joyous Eid Al-Fitr. Hope you had a great Ramadan.

Fleury has already publicly stated that he will be playing at least one more season. https://sports.yahoo.com/marc-andre-fleury-says-he-plans-on-returning-for-at-least-one-more-season-202840054.html

I mean, I guess it’s possible, but I highly doubt that.

My dudes, Vegas has not yet had their locker room clean out media availability day.
