  1. It goes like this: 32 - Cup winner 31 - Cup finals loser 30 - Losing conference finalist w/better record 29 - Losing conference finalist w/worse record 17-28 - arranged by regular season standings Only the conference finals and cup finals impact draft order. The rest of the playoff results don’t factor into it.
  2. What is this A/B business? We have a numbering system for defensemen. Is it not good enough? What does this A/B stuff add? To me it just looks like you are saying that you think Jokiharju is a 4, he is good enough to play in your top 4, but just barely.
  3. Yeah, sure, it’s possible to go too far in either direction. Don’t trade away your revered veteran franchise goalie the offseason after he wins the Vezina and you go to the conference finals. Don’t trade away your top pair defenseman the offseason after making the conference finals. Don’t fire the inspirational coach who molded your team from nothing and led them to Stanley Cup finals in their first year of existence. Bridges too far.
  4. I believe that Vegas has a reputation around the league as not treating their players well. Treating them as easily changeable assets, as opposed to vital, valued members of the organization. I think any employee would prefer the later. Even the very best, top performing players on Vegas have found themselves packing their bags. A player is doing well on ice, is a key player, and the team is having success, yet that player still needs to worry about being moved. I think it’s perceived as disrespectful to the contributions that individual guys make to the team. There are deep relationships across the NHL which are not separated by team. These guys all know and respect each other. Of course players on other teams are going to hold it against Vegas if they perceive that they treat players shabbily. I can’t speak to what the Bills are doing. I have no clue. With regard to Meire specifically, he did have a couple hard fought playoff series against Vegas in 2018 and 2019, in addition to being their division rival.
  5. I believe that players see the Vegas organization as ruthless, untrustworthy, and disloyal. They will toss away a player who loves it there, is performing, and has been vital to their team success to bring a player who they perceive to be 5% better. Vegas has systematically shipped out many of the key players/coaches who carried them to success in the first place. Players don’t like that. If they are performing on the ice, the team is winning, and they like it there, they don’t want to traded so that some other guy can be brought in to take their position.
  6. I don’t think it’s so much jealousy or feelings that they were unfairly stacked in the expansion draft. No one thought that team was going to be good before their first season and everyone loved their plucky underdog Cinderella journey. People dislike them now because they disloyally ripped the giant heart out of that lovable underdog (Gallant, Fleury, Schmidt, few other key player) and built a team of high priced superstars instead, while also “cheating” the salary cap. They transformed something lovable and successful into something distasteful and underachieving. People feel that the Golden Knights are collecting their karmic justice.
  7. Even if Vegas beats Dallas on Tuesday, if Dallas beats Arizona and Anaheim to close out the season, Vegas can’t catch them without winning all 4 of their remaining games.
  8. All shots taken in an NHL game are plotted for location and shot type, as well as I believe related circumstances, such as if it was on the rush, off a cross ice pass, a rebound shot, etc. This was previously done manually, but I believe it’s all now being done via microchip technology.
  9. Good chance that he isn’t on the board at pick #74ish based on where a lot of scouting sources have him ranked, but yeah, pick 42ish would be high for him. That’s why I suggest a possible trade into the late 2nd for him. I know that trading up is generally bad value, but they do have the extra picks for it.
  10. It was seeing Dominik Hasek do some ridiculous thing as a kid while watching them play against the Flyers at my Flyers fan friend’s house. Then I became a fan that really followed the team closely during the 2005-2007 years.
  11. Good one. Not for too late in the draft though. Seems to generally be ranked in the mid 2nd-mid 3rd range. Sabres might need to grab him with their 2nd round pick if they want him, or trade up into the late 2nd for him. If he is still there when they pick in the 3rd, that would be great value. Offensively dynamic, good skating, smallish winger. A bit of a creative, pass first guy, but he can score too, good shot. He has been ridiculously productive in the QMJHL this season. Has had a huge jump in production from last season, reminiscent of Jack Quinn. 2020-21 40 games - 10G 19A 29PTS 2021-22 65 games - 36G 63A 99PTS
  12. No, that’s Bob McKenzie. Button is a former GM, and he scouts/ranks the players himself.
  13. I’ve heard him say before also, but I’ve no idea how that’s different. Isn’t everyone ranking draft prospects based on how they think their careers will turn out?
  14. Looking at you Sabres and Jack Quinn.
  15. Honestly it’s taken 4 years for any of the pieces to, not just provide near O’Reilly’s value, but to provide any positive value at all to the NHL team.
  16. Small quibble. Alex Nylander is not small. 6’1” 190.
  17. No. It’s not an opinion based purely on hindsight. On the day that the trade was made, most here thought that it was bad. After just a few games of watching Berglund and Sobotka play, it looked even worse.
  18. Are you counting this current season for Reinhart? If so, Olofsson will be a 80+ point player if he plays a full season next year? You are confident in this? EDIT: read through rest of thread, wow.
  19. Ah yes, there was some app that Portillo and a couple classmates were launching. I recall reading about that. I think it’s very clear that this guy just has legitimate interests/aspirations in the business world.
  20. I agree with this. Berglund and Sobotka were not pure cap dump pieces of that trade. Botterill, and later Krueger, actually thought these were guys who would fill roles, and not just as 13th forwards, for a few years. The O’Reilly trade was bad because the Sabres should have been able to get more for him. If Thompson and Johnson turn out well then that is great, but the trade was still a mistake.
  21. I think they will bring in one RHD who can play with Power or on the 3rd pair, as well as on the PK. I think that Bryson can play on the 2nd or 3rd pair as LD or RD. His versatility is a big asset. I think a 6/7/8 group of Bryson/Fitzgerald/Pysyk(or someone similar) is alright.
  22. His BBA. 1 year? This this will be his 3rd year at Michigan. He could legitimately be planning on finishing it up before going pro. This combined with a possible desire to compete for a national championship are reasonable reasons for returning to Michigan for another season. He also could recognize that he needs more development and thinks he can do that at Michigan just as well as in the AHL.
  23. In that 43 goal season, Karlsson shot 23.4% which is outrageously high and anyone looking at it would know that it would not be repeated. Thompson this season is shooting 14.9% which is a more normal % for a good shooter. He could certainly drop off a little, but this is not a Karlsson level situation.
  24. Yeah, except this thread is specifically about the Vegas draft, so it should be no surprise that people are in here hoping Vegas loses so that the draft pick improves. If you don’t want to read stuff like that, it’s probably not the thread for you.
