Perhaps “this board” does love to do that. Were JohnC and I doing it just now though? Miroshnichenko not huge, but has good size and is strong on the ice. He plays a very rugged, physical game. I don’t think we were doing any sort of false equivalency. I have to be honest, it kind of feels like you jumped into the discussion to complain about something that we weren’t even doing. Yes, he is a risky pick. That’s the discussion that we were having.
-
Of course not, they should be good at hockey too, but big and rugged is better than small and soft, all else being equal.
-
Yeah, it’s a tough call. 16 feels like it might be a little high, but I doubt he is still available at 28. I wouldn’t be mad taking him at 16.
-
Prior to this season, Miroshnichenko was definitely considered to be among the top 5 prospects for this draft. Who knows how his season would have played out, but I have to assume that he would be a near unanimous top 10 prospect. Total cop out answer, but he plays like Ovechkin. Not as good obviously but same style. Big violent, direct, power winger with speed and a great shot.

You need to ask this guy. Only thing that I’ve seen even remotely like this. I’m dismissing it unless something more concrete is provided. @JKB1646

Anyone have strong opinions on David Goyette? A C playing in OHL put up 73pts in 66 games. Elite skater who can stick handle well and make plays at top speed. This makes him great in transition. Decent but not great shot. A little on the small side (5’ 10.25” 175lbs) and not the strongest, but is still willing to get involved physically. This the type of guy that the Sabres could take a home run shot on at 28 or 41. If he is able to get stronger and things come together he looks like he could definitely be a top-6 forward. https://lastwordonsports.com/hockey/2022/06/05/david-goyette-scouting-report-2022-nhl-draft/ https://dobberprospects.com/player/david-goyette/

And Chesley at 28! USNTDP takin’ ovaaa!!! Seriously though, I’d be very happy with that.

Congratulations. My first is 9 months old. The first few weeks are rough. I hope you are making it through ok and trying to enjoy it best you can. It gets better. After 2-3 months you will have settled into a routine of sorts and you’ll notice a big difference. Its the most difficult and wonderful thing I’ve ever experienced.

I think that one major reason that Gauthier is getting (over)hyped up is because NHL teams view him as a center. They may think that he has a better chance to be an NHL center than Nazar does. Position matters. Centers are a rarer asset.

I’m really liking some of the more gritty power forward type of guys in the #9/#16 range (Gauthier, Ohgren, McGroarty, Kasper, Miroshnichenko) because I do think they need some more guys like that, so I’m definitely guilty of pumping their tires. But, I also think that the NHL team needs more of a dynamic element, not just at ES but also on the PP. Hopefully Quinn brings a lot of that, but I think another guy with high end puck skills would still be a big help. So I would also be super happy to get one of Savoie, Nazar, Lekkerimaki, Mesar, Howard. I think one from each group at 9 and 16 might be perfect.

2022 NHL Draft Combine: May 30th-June 4th, Buffalo NY

After listening to the Expected Buffalo podcast, it seems that Marco Kasper, Lian Bichsel, and Noah Warren also interview with the Sabres. -

Nemec was there, Jiricek was not. No idea if Sabres interviewed any of those guys. Nemec and almost definitely Jiricek will be gone before #9 anyway. Geekie was there. List of attendees. https://cms.nhl.bamgrid.com/images/assets/binary/334383446/binary-file/file.pdf -
2022 NHL Draft Combine: May 30th-June 4th, Buffalo NY

I’ve been noting it down each time it’s reported that the Sabres did or did not interview a particular player at the draft combine. I’m assuming that anyone who they chose not to interview, they are not interested in drafting, although I do understand that may not be 100% correct. Anyway, here is what I have seen reported. Sabres Interviewed: Ryan Lambert Filip Mesar Pavel Mintyukov Cutter Gauthier Frank Nazar Jack Devine Jimmy Snuggerud Sabres Did Not Interview: Joakim Kemell Seamus Casey Maverick Lamoureux Jack Hughes Denton Mateychuk Does anyone have any names to add to this? -
Yeah, if you evaluate Nazar as a better prospect than either Gauthier or Ohgren, full stop, then of course it makes sense to take him ahead of either of them. I was just giving a major difference between Gauthier/Ohgren. It doesn’t feel like everyone is blindly hoping that Gauthier “becomes” a center. They have seen him play center and probably have well thought out reasons why they are confident that he can play the position moving forward.
-
The big difference between Gauthier and Ohgren is that apparently everyone thinks that Gauthier is going to be a center in the NHL. That is a large part of what is propelling Gauthier up draft boards.
-
Super cute. After the world championships Cozens went to Sweden with Dahlin before heading home. Vibes indeed.

Jack Hughes’ college roommate is probably not going to say anything negative or give an unbiased opinion to the Buffalo Sabres. If you are the Sabres, you need to form your opinions yourself.

2022 NHL Draft Combine: May 30th-June 4th, Buffalo NY

Maybe in the 3rd. I’m not sure that he has a high enough upside to justify being picked at 41. If he is there at 28 he could be a steal. At 16 he is an option, but I think someone better is likely to be available. IMPO Yes, Cheasly is a great option at 28. Hope he is still there. -

Good. Not because he isn’t a good player, but I think they should target more defense first type of defensemen who project to the PK. Not small PP QB types. Dahlin and Power are going to play point on the PP for a decade+. That negates a lot of the value of someone like Casey. -
Geekie is alright. Skill level is not comparable for me though. On his own team, Geekie was 5th in points and 6th in goals. 70 points in 62 games. In his draft season, Draisaitl was 1st on his team in scoring by a margin of 32 points. 105 points in 64 games.
-
Not really. Miroshnichenko was definitely more highly regarded before those season and before his illness. I’m doubtful that he is there at 28.
-
Miroshnichenko met with NHL personnel in Germany during the world championships last month. At that time it was reported that he told NHL teams that he was in remission.

Posted in another thread: I really hate to sound like I’m letting Sabres off the hook, but the NYR really are not comparable because it’s NYC. The Rangers’ rebuild included another team’s prospect stiffing his team by refusing to play anywhere but the garden then turning into a Norris level player, another top pair defenseman forcing a trade to NY, and one of the elite offensive wingers in the league choosing to sign there. That’s 3 of their top 6 players who they got for little to no cost because the player chose them. Not to mention that a 4th round pick from 2014 just emerged as a Vezina goalie for them. That had nothing to do with steps they took over the past 3-4 years to rebuild the team.

That’s good to hear. To be fair, with 4 picks spread pretty evenly from 9-41, I would expect them to interview most all the projected 1st-2nd round picks with the exception of a few who they have off their board completely. -
