Chad’s hockey takes are pretty hit and miss for me. I don’t value his hockey opinions any more than some rando post on here. However, I think he does get some good info from Sabres/League contacts though.

Charlie Mendola: New Director of Hockey Strategy

The Leafs also hired a Director of Hockey Strategy 2 weeks ago. No one knows what that guy does either. -
Report: some owners favor NHL shutdown if fans aren't allowed
Curt replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
Have they even publicly stated that they lost money? -
I’m with these who say that Skinner has a higher ceiling than Reinhart, but that Reinhart has a higher floor. I can’t envision Reinhart falling apart like Skinner did last season, but I also can’t imagine him going OFF for 40 goals. Overall, I’d call them close to equal, but very different types of player.

Report: some owners favor NHL shutdown if fans aren't allowed
Curt replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
Billionaires, especially those who attempt to acquire tax payer dollars for their projects, are not going to go out and publicly say that they are making tons of money. They are going to point to all of their expenditures and paper losses, in order to justify the public funds they receive. Its possible that the Pegulas really have lost money on the Sabres, but I can’t see why I should believe them when they say so. -
He did do well in the USHL, but just turned 20 in Sept. and was just a 2019 pick. Young pup.

Does anyone actually think that Sam is an elite hockey player? I think you are tilting at windmills here.

But it’s not a one way contract. It’s a 2-way contract. The answer may be as simple as Johansson is going to stay in Europe for the season and/or they wanted someone they knew they could expose in expansion. Also, with the condensed schedule, I think the possibility of a season with expanded rosters and possibly using/carrying 3 goalies at times is very real. Chill everyone, it’s just Dustin Tokarski on a 2-way contract.

2020 United States Presidential Election

I think it’s the same really. Has it actually gotten more extreme? Does the same divide exist in Canada? -
It’s not a “prospect list” though. It’s players 23 and under with an NHL games played limit of .....150 or something like that.

Marcus Davidsson (2017, 37th pick) has terminated contract with Vaxjo
Curt replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
At age 17, in his age appropriate junior league, he had 6 goals and 10 pts in 9 games. He also had 5 goals and 9 points playing 45 games in the SHL, a men’s league of roughly equivalent talent level to the AHL, as a 17 year old. Thats pretty good. It’s not easy to play against men as a 17 year old. -

At the time he was drafted, Davidsson was a totally reasonable 2nd round pick. He was not obscure or unknown. -

There are just so many reasons to pull for the Latvian Locomotive. 🚂 -
Pretty sure he meant 2021-22 season.

I could see Girgs being someone the Pegulas would like. He always works his butt off, he married a localish young lady I believe, he never complains. His contract is objectively an overpay and he hasn’t turned out to be as good as I once hoped, but I would be really happy to see him be a contributor on good Sabres teams. To see Girgensons lift the Cup as a Sabre might bring me to tears. He is easy to cheer for. -

I think that anyone who thinks Kahun would have signed a similar deal with Buffalo is mistaken. This is the contract that he decided to take after weeks of waiting for anyone to make him a better offer that never came. After taking a hard stance with the Sabres, and having them call his bluff, Kahun was unlikely to come back asking for a lesser offer. With that said, I actually liked him and was hopeful that he could be a solid middle 6 contributor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does really well in Edmonton. -

Bullying and Hockey, NHL Draft Prospect gets Undrafted
Curt replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
So, there is a lot here that I didn’t say. I don’t think that anyone needs to forgive this guy or hire him, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for not. That’s up to you. I’m not even saying that he is worthy of forgiveness or has changed for the better. I’m not nearly close enough to the situation to judge that. What I am saying is that if someone wants to give him a 2nd chance (the Arizona Coyotes in this case) maybe “the mob” should not demand his excommunication. Forgiveness can be tricky though, because the person must be deemed worthy of that forgiveness, and everyone will have a different view on that. He doesn’t necessarily get to do whatever he wants, but other people don’t automatically get to dictate what he can and can’t do for the rest of his life either. He has to live with the shadow of his mistakes but they don’t define his entire existence. That’s life. As for Kapernick, I don’t see the connection at all. Kapernick never did anything wrong in the first place. It’s a huge load of BS that he was essentially blackballed and it’s one of the reasons that I’ll probably never go back to being a fan of the NFL. -
That’s actually a pretty low projection for Dahlin. I would probably be a little disappointed.

Bullying and Hockey, NHL Draft Prospect gets Undrafted
Curt replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
So, from your perspective, no? He should never be able to have a career playing pro hockey. I just worry about going down this road of trial by mob. I can’t align myself with the idea that if someone (in the public eye) makes mistakes, they should be punished, not only by judge, jury, and the law, but also by taking away from them the thing which they love the most, or thing they are best at. Forever. That kind of mentality does not leave much room for the very human concepts of enlightenment and redemption. -
Bullying and Hockey, NHL Draft Prospect gets Undrafted
Curt replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
This whole saga is such a embarrassing disaster from the Coyotes perspective. Everyone knew about his history. All teams knew, it was publicly reported. I had read about it. If you are going to make the decision to draft this player and give him a chance, you better be ready. You better have justification for why you believe in him and why he deserves that 2nd chance to prove himself as a human being. To make the purposeful decision to take him into your organization, only to then drop him when the 4 year old story gets back into the news, just makes the Coyotes look totally directionless and spineless. If you believe in this guy then defend him! If you don’t believe in this guy then why did you draft him in the first place? It just looks really haphazard. This coming on the heels of being penalized for scouting violations and losing their 2020 2nd and 2021 1st round picks just makes it that much worse. They look a mess. And they haven’t had a winning season since 2011. -
Adams has had a better offseason on paper than all of Botterill’s offseason combined.

I feel like Detroit improved more than Ottawa probably. Remember that Ottawa also lost Duclair and Pageau off their team. -
