I don’t know the history of how it came to be, but of the major sports only NFL contracts are not fully guaranteed. He’s out for 6 months, not 3 years.
-
They are tank seedling. Growing from the tank fruit that we’ve dropped.
-
I thought you were going to stay out of here for a couple months. Just couldn’t stay away from those sweet prospects??? 😂
-
Correct. I think the closest would be both parties agreeing to void the contract, but in that case the player becomes a UFA, and I don’t think we want that.
-
Oh don’t worry much, I think they have plenty of good players to keep them in the playoff hunt.
-
Sadly, I don’t think you are missing anyone. I would be extremely surprised if Power is with the Sabres in 2021-22 though.
-
I think you are getting warmer. I can see Dahlin really wanting a bridge deal. Both to showcase himself under Granato and to see how things go with Buffalo. I agree that Sabres should be keeping the need to sign him long term at the forefront of their mind.
-
No, unfortunately that is not possible. NFL players do that because their contracts are non-guaranteed, but NHL contracts a binding and can’t be changed after they are signed.
-
Feels like an Evander Kane type of situation. Acquire a good player but he won’t hurt your tanking efforts. Regardless, this seems to make it more likely that John Eichel could end up there.
-
I don’t agree. I think there are so many NHL players who are incredibly grateful for the position they are in and really do want to give back to the community. In fact, it seems like Eichel himself is somewhat notorious for doing just that, without the limelight or fanfare. EDIT: rereading, I suppose you are more so saying that the Sabres PR will screw this up than saying anything about the players themselves. That could happen. In the end it will probably be hit and miss with their PR production, but I think the kids they visit or the people they take photos with and sign stuff for will be just as happy.

I think this is great. I can’t see how anyone could think otherwise. I don’t even live in the area, but having your NHL team, or really any business, be highly involved in the community is good for all parties. This is true regardless of whether the team is good, bad, great, terrible, or just ok. Community involvement and the on ice product are totally separate things.

Why don’t you like it?

So, the thing is, it makes sense to be unhappy that the Sabres are not acquiring good players for the NHL team. However, it doesn’t makes sense to be unhappy that the Sabres acquired a good player for the AHL team. That’s a good thing that should happen. Especially since this guy is a recent teammate of JJ Peterka. It will be good for the German kid in a new country to have a familiar face. In addition to him being a good AHL defenseman. The fury is misplaced.

Randy Timmons, big mouthed cousin of Habs AGM Trevor Timmons?

Vitali Kravtsov is a winger. Basically agree with the rest.

The sentence that bolded is me agreeing with what you said, not mischaracterizing it. Above I’ve quoted my OP and your reply to me. I honestly could not figure out what your reply had to do with what I wrote. That may be why our conversation took a wrong foot misstep. My point summarized was: They didn’t spend more in FA because they don’t want to, not because they couldn’t find players who would come to Buffalo. Your reply summarized: Not only couldn’t they get FA’s to come, they can’t get their homegrown players to stay. You seemed to totally bypass what I said. I wasn’t sure if you misunderstood me, or were disagreeing. Can you offer clarification?

As long as the team is terrible, most good players will want to leave when they reach UFA status. No brainer. My point was that the reason they didn’t sign anyone for more than $1M is not because no one will take their money. It’s because they didn’t want to sign those “good” players for UFA prices. They don’t want to spend to the cap and finish the season in 24th place. They want $20M+ in cap space and finish in 32nd place.

I was looking at 2013-14 and listing guys under 25. You can draw different lines if you’d like.

Hodgson, Ennis, Girgensons, Grigorenko, Myers, Pysyk, Foligno, Risto, Zadorov, Larson, McCabe, McNabb

Why is Owen Power in quotes?
-
What do you mean by worked out? This guy is signed to play in Rochester. He is not expected to play for the NHL team at all. Why are you angry about this?
-
Ohhh daaayyyuuummmm!!!!!
-
Did you read what I wrote? I don’t think they were really trying to entice many players to sign. I think a lot of this is by design, not due to inability to sign anyone.
-
If no other goalies are added (it doesn’t really look like they will be), the plan might just be for all of Anderson, Dell, Tokarski, and UPL to get some NHL starts. The latter 3 are all on 2-way contracts. If someone gets hot, ride them for a bit, if someone struggles, don’t start them, give UPL some games but don’t be in a position where you need to send him out if he is struggling. Its not going to lead to great results because none of them are very good, but there is still the possibility that another goalie is brought in at some point

I don’t believe this to be true. NHL player will take NHL jobs for money. Buffalo won’t be 1st choice, but it won’t be truly shunned. No, the types of signings we saw yesterday were by design.
