  1. The Big Unit! Fighting is almost gone but a big guy that can drop the gloves is a deterrent. If the rest of his game is not horrible he could add something. Corner work, net front presence and winning battles on the walls are all good things.
  2. Quinn didn’t play, not quite ready I guess.
  3. I hate the Leafs more than any other team. This edition of the Sabres will be in tough. They need to bring an all out effort and get some key saves. The Leafs defense is weak, their goaltending is fragile but they can score tons. Let’s go Buffalo!
  4. Mentioned in the other thread was the fact that Eakin had a good game vs Dallas. I don’t care, they lost and talent should trump all. Eakin can win a few more faceoffs but Jankowski is better in my opinion. The only thing Bjork does better than Quinn is play left handed. Hayden is more physical than Vinnie but has less speed and creates nothing.
  5. The fewer JAGs in the lineup the better the team is. This will boost production and confidence.
  6. It might be tough if he continues where he left off.
  7. Agreed, but I think because of the later development curve of the position, teams move on from them more than other positions. There are only 2 per team so moving on from 1 is a 50% turnover and if both don’t stick. Most of the guys on your list showed signs of being an NHL starter fairly early on in their careers. I still find it interesting that Washington has drafted 5 NHLers while Colorado has only 1.
  8. I was curious and did some research on current goalies. This is not related to the Sabres goaltending issues but just random information. I looked at background information on 75 goalies listed on team rosters. These are the guys that have played the most games for their teams. 75 equals 2.5 per team, I didn’t take every single one that has played. One who I included but hasn’t played is Carey Price. Average round drafted-4th. Free agent signings were assigned an 8th round value. 28 of 75 are still on the team that drafted them. Lots of movement. Washington has drafted 5 NHL goalies, Holtby, Grubauer, Vanacek, Varlamov and Samsonov. Decent list. Chicago has drafted 4, Anderson, Raanta, Lankinen and Hutton. Meh. Ottawa has drafted 4, Hammond, Elliott, Driedger and Lehner. Meh. Pittsburgh also has 4, Fleury, Jarry, DeSmith and Murray. Colorado only has 1, Francouz. Detroit has 1, Mrazek. Edmonton 1, Koskinen. NY Isles 1, Sorrokin. Toronto 1, Reimer. Vegas and Seattle have not been around long enough to matter. Sabres have drafted 3, Ullmark, Peterson and Johansson. Draft and develop is not a common practice with goalies from what I gather. Sorry if this was a waste of your time but I thought I would share anyway.
  9. I’m just surprised he was drafted. 14 points in 54 games was his last OHL action, pre draft. He’s trending in the right direction. At a minimum he would help the Amerks in a year or two.
  10. Best PK in the OHL and he also has 7 shorties. Point a game production this year, 47pts in 47 games after not playing last year and getting 14 points in 54 games as a 16 year old. Scouts did some good work or were lucky.
  11. Even if the young guys come on strong you should be able to move a goalie at the deadline, especially on an expiring contract.
  12. I don’t know why Jankowski is lower on DG’s pecking order. He seems to do everything other than faceoffs better than Eakin.
  13. Tokarski looks like Dell tonight. Even when he stops one it has a chance to go in.
  14. Olivier Nadeau with the 1sr star for Shawinigan tonight. 1G 1A.
